Rob's violet barn has a lot of info on strep prop/care. Plus african violets too, and yes, I have purchased from him many times, nice plants too. ;)

Mr. Arizonia had a few babies on his side that I kept, so we probably are talking about a Mrs. Arizonia, LOL--now that I think about it!

RE:) NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

OOps we can also list cuttings, Bulbs etc. etc... Sorry forgot to say that... :)

 o
RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

I'll try to explain, this will only be my third round robin plant swap. You list what you have to trade and what you would like to receive. Have your trade page updated also. I will pick partners on the 17th trying to match up what you have requested and have to trade. Be sure you have everything that you listed on your have page to send to your partner. Don't list it and then when they request it say that you are out of that. Once your send to partner has picked out what they want from your have list, you package it up and send by priority mail with delivery confirmation. Depending on the weight of the package, you may want to use the flat rate priority box. We all end up getting one or two boxes of plants, cuttings, etc. Pack your box with as many things as you can. Some people may want to do side trades with you also. Take care of your swap partner first. You pick what you want from your receiving partner and they package and send yours the same way. Let your partner know when you mail the box and the delivery confirmation number. Also, when you receive your box, you let the person know you received it. It is also nice if you give that person a rating on the rate and review exchange. Hope this explains it plain to you, if not post again. We have many wonderful people in this swap that will help you if needed. If you've never shipped plants before there is a page that will tell you how to package them for shipping.

Hope you decide to join. OK all you veteran swappers, if I didn't explain this right just chime in and correct me.
Nancy

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Hi everyone,
Welcome Michelle and Dorothy!! Yippie, new traders in the neighborhood!! Dorothy, you don't have to send your entire list of stuff to your receiving partner (although I guess it's possible). I usually give the person I'm sending to my list and tell them to choose what they would like. Then I will fill up a large flat rate box with as much stuff as I can fit. I've never had anyone pick everything on my list though. :-) Then, I will also usually let the person who is sending to me know what I would be interested in off of their list. What they ultimately send is up to them of course, but I like to give them ideas of what I'm looking for.

Can't wait for this swap!! I'm working on my list.

P.S. Nancy, I sent you an email back the other day, did you get it? I hope it didn't end up in your junk mail folder. I think I said I would get back to you with my list, but it's not done yet (been too busy outside! LOL!) Let me know if you got the email. :-)

 o
RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

I tried to copy your pics, Norma. I think Kodak doesn't allow stealing lol kept wanting me to agree to the terms of use hehe. I will put a link at the bottom for everyone.
Whatever you want to sidetrade is fine with me. Princess Di canna is kind of yellow pink. I love that perilla!

Amy lol you gave me cuban oregano it's awesome and when I was in NY i bought frosted jade and i realize they are the same plant except the one you sent me looks like it took steroids and the one I got in ny is ...not so much...lol.

I know Norma I should feed my plants more when I do I use miracle grow. But they say if you use compost or horsey gold lol you don't need to fertilize as much. I need to give more thanks for reminding me. Has your wisteria ever flowered. Keep cutting it back to force flower maybe. It's like one big continuous thunder outside.

Here is a link that might be useful: Some of Norma's pics

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Hello neighborhood...just stopped in to sit a spell and say Hi. Howdy to the newcomers, welcome to the neighborhood.

I think I will be sitting this swap out(darnit). This month will be extremely busy for us. Mark goes off to college this month and we will be making some trips to the college and one to Jacksonville Naval Base this month. Everyday I have something I have to go pickup or an appointment to take him too.

Ya'll have fun and I will try to stop in say Hi from time to time.

Regina

 o
RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Glad you decided to join bigmama. I can't get the pictures to come up from Heather's link. Could it be I'm still on dial up. We don't have high speed here yet. Would love to see what you have.

 o
RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

bigmama, I use regular miracle grow for my green plants in the summer (when I think about it) and then i use the granular "colors" (I can't remember the brand, I'll look tomorrow) for the flowering plants. I usually put that in once in the spring and then once in mid-summer. Your growing season is longer, so you may need to do it more often. I also try to remember to use the acidic stuff on my acid lovers, but I'm not good about it. My plants Do amazing outside in the summer, fertilizer or not. Hey, so do you want that baby naner or not? I know it's not all red, so no biggy if you want to pass. It's getting bigger now and I'm afraid it'll be too big to send soon. You get first dibs so let me know. :-)

LOL Heather! I was really excited about the potential of the "frosted Jade"!! I've had variegated jade on my list forever. So funny that it turns out it's a cuban oregano. LOL!! let me know if you want to do a side trade with me too, I'm open!! Trying to get as many in as I can before it's too cold here. I'll be posting my list soon.

I'm working on updating my trade page with links to pictures of my plants that I have up for trade. I have been taking pictures and cropping them like a mad woman. I have pictures of most of them now. Getting close to getting the page updated, can't wait to share it!!!

Regina!?! What will we do without you this month?! We will miss you! Good luck with getting that boy off to college.

Amy

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Dorothy, there is no set number for what you have to list. The more you have, the more choices your send to partner will have. They probably won't choose all of them. You can pack a lot of plants, cuttings, and bulbs in a priority box.

Barb, glad your plants are doing good.

Regina, good hearing from you. Was wondering about you. My plants you sent are doing great also.

Hi everyone!
Boy oh boy, we've had a busy day today. I am going to post some pictures later for you to show you what we worked on today. But right now we have to stop over at our neighbor's house for a beer (or two LOL). :-) LOVE summer!!! Stay tuned...

Barb, we're having the same weather as you today. We're under a tornado watch until 10pm. There's not a cloud in the sky right now either, it's so weird. But my hubby is awesome and he's been working hard for me in the garden!! Thanks for asking!

Be back later

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

woohoo Barb Nice list!! I love the lists it's the highlight of my GW.
Ann did you find the link to Norma's pics scroll up it's in a link under my name
It's gonna be over 100 today. Thank god we got a rain last night. I took more pics but afraid to post them in case someone on dial up. I unlocked the PB ( lol peanut butter)
a white bougie popped up in the pot oops it's a garden miracle. I'm so easily amused. When I was in ny we were in this lady's sunroom. It was filled with plastic flowers rofl. My husbands like I bet you dont have any of these. Ya I took pictures waiting for the right comedic moment. Some people don't have the same sense of humor as me and might be offended at all the plastic flowers. DO you know that hardy laughing from your gut lowers your blood pressure. Laughter is really the best medicine right next to gardening hehehhe I forgot what else I was gonna touch on.

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Here's what we've been busy doing this weekend...

This is my new relaxation corner. We're putting in a pergola (tall posts) and a pond. We're going to plant grape vines that will grow over the top of the pergola, and then put a bench underneath. There will be a raised waterfall behind the pond too.

posts set and concrete drying...

pond filled w/water...

More to come. We picked up some retaining wall block today for the waterfall feature. It's too mucky out there today to start working on the waterfall feature though. Booo.

Barb, I was thinking about you last night. The storm just missed us to the north (by a few miles). There were tornadoes and large hail in the northern suburbs (we live in a southwest suburb of Minneapolis). When I went to bed, I saw on the news that the storm was heading straight for you. Glad to hear it missed you too! That was a nasty one!! Lots of damage.

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Lots of plastic flowers around here (not in my garden though) lots of people seem to prefer the Dollar Store flowers to watering! (on days like this I question my own sanity mid 90s today!)

Some people are quite clever about it, changing the flowers seasonally, I have actually spied some quite lovely displays! kudos to them! Other folks are not so ambitious, there is one house around here that has the same tired gerberas 'blooming' for at least 2 years...... summer and winter!!!! ha ha ha

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

All this talk of plastic flowers gets me to thinking about my daughters wedding. She decided to get married in my flower garden . . . in October. So I went down to Michaels and bought plastic lilys and stuck them in the lily greens, plastic roses and stuck them in the bare climbing rose, plastic daffodils and freesias . . . and it looked just like it does in spring!
We recently sold them all at a garage sale. . . they went like hot cakes.

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Barb!
Missed your post, the shredded purple is gorgeous! The white seems to prefer the bright shade over full sun here and occassionally a flower will have pink flashes. Not sure if this is normal?

My fave MG is still 'Heavenly Blue' truest blue flower ever and possitively HUGE!!!

Dee,
Fabulous idea for a Fall Bride!

Amy
Wow! your yard is so sunny! cant wait to see your pergola! I would love a pond, but under all these trees it would be a full time job keeping the punps going!

Hello Regina!

Oh Barb, can you send me the 'snake story' again I was laughing so hard, I deleted it by accident!

Gotta run, big hellooooos to everyone! still trying to get my bed cleaned of bugs :( and I better get started early it is supposed to be hot again today!

Frances

I have to get Normas side trade out today... Busy bee

Here is the garden snake story...I am cracking up again..:)

GARDEN SNAKES CAN BE DANGEROUS...

Snakes also known as Garter Snakes (Thamnophissirtalis) can be dangerous. Yes, grass snakes, not rattlesnakes. Here's why.

A couple in Sweetwater , Texas , had a lot of potted plants. During a recent cold spell, the wife was bringing a lot of them indoors to protect them from a possible freeze.

It turned out that a little green garden grass snake was hidden in one of the plants. When it had warmed up, it slithered out and the wife saw it go under the sofa.

She let out a very loud scream.

The husband (who was taking a shower) ran out into the living room naked to see what the problem was. She told him there was a snake under the sofa.

He got down on the floor on his hands and knees to look for it. About that time the family dog came and cold-nosed him on the behind. He thought the snake had bitten him, so he screamed and fell over on the floor.

His wife thought he had had a heart attack, so she covered him up, told him to lie still and called an ambulance.

The attendants rushed in, would not listen to his protests, loaded him on the stretcher, and started carrying him out.

About that time, the snake came out from under the sofa and the Emergency Medical Technician saw it and dropped his end of the stretcher. That's when the man broke his leg and why he is still in the hospital.

The wife still had the problem of the snake in the house, so she called on a neighbor who volunteered to capture the snake. He armed himself with a rolled-up newspaper and began poking under the couch. Soon he decided it was gone and told the woman, who sat down on the sofa in relief.

But while relaxing, her hand dangled in between the cushions, where she felt the snake wriggling around. She screamed and fainted, the snake rushed back under the sofa.

The neighbor man, seeing her lying there passed out, tried to use CPR to revive her.

The neighbor's wife, who had just returned from shopping at the grocery store, saw her husband's mouth on the woman's mouth and slammed her husband in the back of the head with a bag of canned goods, knocking him out and cutting his scalp to a point where it needed stitches.

The noise woke the woman from her dead faint and she saw her neighbor lying on the floor with his wife bending over him, so she assumed that the snake had bitten him. She went to the kitchen and got a small bottle of whiskey, and began pouring it down the man's throat.

By now, the police had arrived.
Breathe here...

They saw the unconscious man, smelled the whiskey, and assumed that a drunken fight had occurred. They were about to arrest them all, when the women tried to explain how it all happened over a little garden snake!

The police called an ambulance, which took away the neighbor and his sobbing wife.

Now, the little snake again crawled out from under the sofa and one of the policemen drew his gun and fired at it. He missed the snake and hit the leg of the end table. The table fell over, the lamp on it shattered and, as the bulb broke, it started a fire in the drapes.

The other policeman tried to beat out the flames, and fell through the window into the yard on top of the family dog who, startled, jumped out and raced into the street, where an oncoming car swerved to avoid it and smashed into the parked police car.

Meanwhile, neighbors saw the burning drapes and called in the fire department. The firemen had started raising the fire ladder when they were halfway down the street. The rising ladder tore out the overhead wires, put out the power, and disconnected the telephones in a ten-square city block area (but they did get the house fire out).

Time passed! Both men were discharged from the hospital, the house was repaired, the dog came home, the police acquired a new car and all was right with their world.

A while later they were watching TV and the weatherman announced a cold snap for that night. The wife asked her husband if he thought they should bring in their plants for the night.

And that's when he shot her.

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Just popped in to say....

I am going to have to drop out of the swap. My yard is so buggy there is hardly an unmolested/clean leaf to be found. We are expecting rain all week, so it wil get worse before it gets better. I am currently pruning and burniing. So sad... but if I want to save anything.... eeps.... oh well.
Really don't want to send anyone mites or blights.

oh well, maybe the rabbits will eat it all... :(

Barb I love the snake story!!!!! thanks so much!

Great shot of the Hawk! (it is a hawk right?) they rarely fly down into the understory here, so I don't often get to see them close! (I could use one right now, there is a bunny munching in my yard.... grrrr)

 o
RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Frances I am so sorry you are having problems in the gardens.. I would get a pellet gun out..Darn bunny rabbits..They eat so much... They ate so many of my Ws babies after I planted them out... Grrr is right..

Hi,
Just stopping by for a second to say "Hi"
I've been really busy again, but things are going to slow down now that the kids are going back to school. They start Aug. 16th. Yay! ;)
I'll work on my list tonight, I'm making supper right now, and it should be done in few minutes.
I'm interested in houseplants only for this swap (in my box). It's too hot to try to plant anything new outdoors. Everything is constantly turning crisp, I'm watering all the time.

Be back later to post my list.

Deb

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Hi all!
bigmama, I replied to your email the other day. Just wanted to make sure you got it and it didn't end up in your junk folder.

Here's the latest pictures of our pergola. It's done, now we just need to figure out if we're going to put some lattice on the sides or just wire or wood. Tomorrow I'll get the grape vines planted. This weekend we'll start working on the waterfall feature around the pond. There was a huge toad in the pond today, so cute!! Can't wait to get fish and plants in there (probably going to wait until spring though)....

Finished top of pergola

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Amy thank you! My neighbor peeps... I got a call from one of many parents today..lol long story... My pops is coming here for a visit from California where I grew up part of my child hood lol.... He is all excited and me too... He taught me from a early age about plants... I grew up in a jungle lol... He rocks and a artist too...They did a news story on him in the San Diego paper...

The one thing that is so important! Please teach your children about plants and grand babies... I am so fortunate to have them in my life as a child... Foster parents are not always bad people.. I think in my heart this needs said too....Power to the foster parents! Sorry off topic but they never get credit... Only a bad rap when things go wrong..:( ps I had a great Step dad too (Navy) in case he reads this...hahah Love you all...

got excited by Barb's coleus and forgot to say wow!!!! look at that garden! I would kill for a little of that sunshine!!! I look back at some of the photos you posted earlier in the year and I cannot believe how your plants have filled in that giant space! Fabulous!!!

Barb
what a pretty hosta, I think I am addicted to them now! I have about 150 hosta seedlings started last winter. Just one variegated seedling in the lot, a few silvers and a couple gold. Can't wait to start next years batch. Seriously considering ordering a few of the "GIANTS"

Hya!!!!

I am really suffering from SWAP withdrawal!!!! Have fun I will be back!

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Hello neighbors!
Well, it was an interesting morning. I was out in the garden with my hubby having coffee when we noticed a lizard on the chimney of my hobbit house. So quick the camera, hubby is trying to get the picture, lizard runs off. So as I'm watching this I notice a cat sneaking into the yard through the brush. It jumps down like ten feet in front of me, and surprise, it's a bobcat!

Here's the hobbit house. . .the building on the right is the potting shed.

Hello everyone, last day to sign up. Welcome rbrady, glad you decided to join us. Now all I need is lists from debbya and rbrady and I can start to partner everyone up.

 o
RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Alright, getting close to partnering up.
Dorothy - we see an occasional bobcat but never quite this close, it sandered off like it owned the place.
Barb - yes, I made the hobbit house out of foam, wire and cement. I've done quite a few cement projects for my yard. Earlier this year I made "origami" cement sculptures. A peace crane and some ducks, the ducks double as small planters. The crane is about 20" beak to tail.

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

I have spent most of the day trying to partner everyone up. I hope that everyone will be happy with their partner, if not email me and I'll see if anything can be done. Since this thread is getting close to full, I am going to start a new one and put the lists and partners on it. I, for one, am still on dial up and it takes a while to load.

RE: NEW: Neighborhood Clean Out Your Garden Swap

Hi everyone!!
Yippie, partners!!! For those who are new to the group, send an email to the person you are receiving from with suggestions of what you are interested in from their list. I like to try to give my partner a lot of ideas to make it easy for them to decide what to send me (I basically list everything I like! LOL). You can also send an email to the person you're sending to if you haven't heard from them yet. You decide what you'll send from the list of plants your partner is interested in. We like to pack the flat rate boxes full in this group so keep that in mind. :-) Don't forget to get a delivery confirmation number and post it here when you send your box.

I sent both deb and dee emails. Hope they didn't end up in your spam folders ladies! LOL!!! I will be able to send my box early next week.

bigmama my friend, i sent your side box out today. Hope you like it!! The dc #'s in the car, will post later.

Regina, I've been thinking about you with that nasty storm, hope you're ok!!

Night everyone.
