NEW: End-of-Summer Perennial Exchange Spectacular!

dan_the_mailman

The rules are simple for this one. Here they are...

1. I'm defining perennials as anything that will be back again next summer. This could include, bulbs, bushes, trees, vines, and of course perennials.

2. Post what you have to give away. Please include the type of plant, number of trades, and any other pertinent information you can think of.

3. When you see something you'd like, request it.

4. Keep track of who you are sending plants to.

5. Send your trades to me by priority mail in time for them to arrive by August 31st. Include with your trades the following... what you are sending, who they are for, and enough postage to mail back to you your package of what you've requested. DO NOT SEND ME ANY MONEY PLEASE. Stamps will work out just fine, and if there are extras I will include them with your return package.

6. I will begin sorting as soon as packages start arriving, and will mail them all back out by September 5th.

Now, let's have some fun, shall we?

-Dan

p.s. Oops, almost forgot. Please e-mail me for my address, including your name, GW name, and e-mail.

Denise, thank you! I know exactly where to put those lamb's ears!

Robin, I'm leaving it up to you all to decide what size/type of box to send. Just remember that it should be big enough for the plants you've requested to come back to you in.

I thought I was the 4th person on those red painted daisies, but if one does happen to find it's way here, well, I've already written it down to send splits to Tammy and Nichol.

Nichol, I just found some pineapple mint today and brought it home. It's variegated too. There's not much of it yet, but next year when I host this again... And no, I'm not going to ask if you want some, I'm just going to send you a split of it for your collection. So there! Nyah!!! LOL!

Here's a list of what I have left to offer...
    Spearmint....... 4 offers
    Wisteria........ 1 offer
    Yucca........... 2 offers
    Yellow Yarrow... 1 offer

And now, I'm going out into the garden to see what else I can offer up. I know there's at least some cranesbill, but I'll have to see how much there is of that first. Remind me later, and I'll tell you why it's called Aunt Dot in my family.

  • gardenmom2

See Dan. You make my little heart go pitter pat. LOL Now if only my husband could figure out that var. mint could do that. LOL

And I want to hear all about Aunt Dot.

I think I'll go look around too, Dan. Maybe we can all dig around to see what we can still send.

I"ll go out in my garden tomorrow and see what's popped up

  • greenthumbgrow

Dan - Thank you so much! If there is any way there is enough to split I would be sooooo happy:-) I really have been looking for it a while. My WSed seeds didn't do anything for them. I was so sad. They were suppost to be the daisey in my red and white garden.

gardenmom - Sure thing I will send you one or two of each kind I have. pitter patter pitter patter. Lol

    Tammy:-)

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! It was good to go digging in the garden! I planted some different coneflowers, lavender, and grasses. I love gardening! Also, I went looking around "the farm" and found more I could offer up! Woohoo!

Linda gets the second wisteria, so that comes off the list, so here's what I have to offer now...

    Spearmint.............. 4 offers
    Yucca.................. 2 offers
    Yellow Yarrow.......... 1 offer
    Curly-leafed Parsley... 3 offers
    Oregano................ 3 offers
    Privet................. 1 offer
    Cranesbill (Aunt Dot).. 3 offers

And now, the story behind Aunt Dot. My sister Diane is also an avid gardener. Her husband had an Aunt Dorothy who everyone called Aunt Dot. Now, Aunt Dot found out that Diane liked to garden, so she gave her a clump of a perennial flower which no one knew the name of. She had done this quite a few times, and everyone in the family had become accustomed to simply calling the plant "Aunt Dot". Well, Diane's plant grew, and soon she was giving away clumps of it to various family members too, telling them the name of the plant was "Aunt Dot". It wasn't until last year when my mother was perusing the offerings in a local garden center that she came across some cranesbill for sale. Luckily, it was in bloom, and she was able to identify the plant for us all. Aunt Dorothy passed away a few years ago, but still the cranesbill is getting passed on from person to person. And we still call it Aunt Dot.

Now, since Nichol was kind enough to remind me to tell you all the story about Aunt Dot, she's got first dibs on one offering of the cranesbill. The other two offerings are up for grabs as soon as I post this, first come, first served.

Here's a picture I took last summer of Aunt Dot. She's the plant with all the purple flowers...

OOOHHHH Brandymulvaine, I can't wait for your list.

Toni, I don't care but it would make it easier for dan at sorting time. You have me down as grandmom and its gardenmom. Like I said, I don't care, hopefully I will be a grandmom someday, but I was afraid of it confusing Dan later on if they are labeled that way. LOL

I hope everyone has a great day today and did not get too much rain. I have been digging potatoes, trying to get the weeds under control from vacation and getting a bed ready to plant some fall lettuce, broccoli, beets, radishes, carrots and anything else I can find. I think I am also going to start some cuttings and start potting up my herbs for the transition. School starts here next week and things will get busy very quickly.
