OBF Storybook Themed Swap

Please note: You must be a member of Our Bloomin' Friends in order to participate in this swap. If you need more information please contact Shirley or post the request for information here.

Sign Up by September 12th
Boxes should be mailed by September 20th

I searched back through some earlier swaps for this theme. Do you have a favorite storybook? For this swap you will be filling your box based on that story!
For Example: Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The box could contain seeds for a cottage style garden, honey scented soap, bear items like a pot hanger, teddy graham crackers, etc.

When you sign up, DO NOT POST THE NAME OF THE STORYBOOK you will be sending. E-mail your storybook title to me. I will be using them to play a simple selection game beginning on Sept. 13 when I will post the list of storybooks to choose from. Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 13 anyone who has signed up can choose which storybook themed box to receive if it has not already been taken. We will use the postings here on the board to see who asks for the book first. When all the stories are chosen I will post the name of the partners. No storybook can be repeated so sign up soon!!

You only need to include the book if you want to. I know some books can be pricey. You may use whatever size box you would like, but please do not spend a large amount on the contents and mailing. The swaps are meant to be fun and not costly. Keep in mind that the contents need to fit the theme of the swap, so you can send whatever you'd like that would fit in with the title of your book. That could include plants, seeds, garden goodies, yard decor, edibles, decorative items, etc. Just fill a box up with goodies that you would like to receive.

This should be a fun month!
Jeanne

I love the idea and I even know what story I'd pick, but I think I'll have to pass this month.

Our American Legion Auxiliary is having a fish fry at the Fort Worth Patriot House, Presbyterian Night Shelter for 82 homeless veterans on the 21st.
My family is in charge of taking/organizing games and I'm putting together 82 grab bags for the guys.
I plan to hit as many garage sales as I can between now and then to try to find affordable items for the grab bags.

And our annual cancer research Breakfast fundraiser is coming up the first Sunday in October. I'm working on three baskets to donate for that.

I'll be lurking to see how creative everyone gets.
Should be fun.

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Jeanne-Sign me up this one gets our creativity flowing. Will send you my BINGO words.

So much to do this time of year and I have not made a dent in it. Just had to come and check the forums. Ruth so nice that you volunteer for all that, you do have the right idea with checking out yard sales, hope you find all kind of treasures for your grab bags.

Nicole-Welcome to our OBF group and also to your very first swap....have fun.

Shirley

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

I love that this many have signed up. Keep 'em coming!

On the list so far I have:
Jeanne (sandlapper_rose)
Shirley (brittneysgran)
Erica (EricaBraun)
Nicole (bluee19)
Jayeanne (pinkiris)
Sheri (panhandle)
Promise (pmb2005)
Mary E (cottonwood468)

We will miss you, Ruth, but I know that your community appreciates all you are doing. You (and other members who can't participate in the swap this month) are welcome to play BINGO.

I had a question about book titles. With the name of the swap being "STORY"book I think of these books as something for the ages infant to pre-teen. Of course, classics like Black Beauty and Little Women work just fine. Let me know if you have other questions.

Jeanne

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Sorry not to have been on top of things today. I've come down with something so I had a doctor's appointment this morning and then took some medicine and slept for about half of the day. I think it's some type of cold so I should feel a lot better in a day or two. Don't catch it - whatever it is!

I'll try to update things tomorrow.
Jeanne

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Mary,

I had a hell of a time. Books really influence our thoughts and beliefs. I eventually decided that instead of trying to pick the book that was most influential to me, I would settle for one that I knew I could come up with swap ideas for. Maybe that will help. :)

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

It is killing me not mentioning names of books!!

I will probably post the stuff at dawn, if that is OK.

Mary E.

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Jeanne

I sent two emails with my bingo words and my book title/s. Let me know if you didn't receive.

Erica, my OBF friend Promise forwarded your email address.

Hey, that is my wedding anniversay! Twelfth of Never. Family tradition.

Mary E.

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

The storybook titles and bingo words have been flying into my e-mail! The book titles are absolutely great and not a single duplicate so far!

Anyway, here's my attempt to update us. I'm still getting over whatever I caught so if I made a mistake please excuse me and just let me know to correct whatever it is. If your name is on the list, you are signed up for the swap. If there is a "T", I have the title of your book. If there is a "B", I have your Bingo words.

Bluee19 - Nicole T, B
Brittneysgran - Shirley B
Canyonwind - Annie T, B
Ericabraun - Erica T, B
Pandhandle_seed-swap - Sheri T, B
Pinkiris - Jayeane T, B
Sandlapper_rose - Jeanne T
Skyblue52 - Susan T, B
Smittie - Margo T, B
Pmb2005 - Promise
Cottonwood468 - Mary T,B

If anyone else wants to play Bingo, please get your words to me by the end of the day tomorrow so I can begin drawing words on Satruday. Thanks! You do not need to be swapping this month to play Bingo - you just need to be a member of OBF.

And there is still time to sign up for the swap.
Have a great day!
Jeanne

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

I now have the name of the book and Bingo words from you, Promise. Thanks.
(For anyone who sent first choice and more on the book list, we are using everyone's first choice that you listed - there were no duplicates.)
Jeanne

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Jeanne-Just sent my Storybook Title....I spent hours in K-Mart reading storybooks to find one I could work with....finally found it. Yeah

Shirley

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Shirley, I got you book title. Thank you. All I can say is you and Mary took the book selection process seriously!

I have all the book titles for those who have signed up. I also have Bingo words from all who have signed up, so I am going to post the first word for Bingo - it's....

19. Forester

I'll probably select another tomorrow evening and if it starts to take too long selecting just one word a day, I will go to two a day at some point.

Next Saturday I'll have the storybook titles listed for selecting. Remember what you sends relates to the book you listed, so you can start to get your swap together anytime you wish. When you chose a book, you are chosing the one that will be the basis for the swap that is mailed to YOU.

Yippee, Forrester, what a promising start.

We had much needed rain, but windy and rough on the heavy with green fruit Sioux tomatoes. First four purple beans, down the hatch raw.

I read all the Round Robin threads, stop me if I start spouting similies and steam punk.

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

That's great to have the swaps lined up through to Janaury!

I had this question asked today and want to answer it for all in case it's not clear. I am doing this the way it was done in the original version of this swap. The book that you listed will be the basis for what you send to your swap partner. For example, if I listed Black Beauty (that's not the book I picked, by the way) and you picked it from the list that I post on Saturday, the items I would send to you would be related to the book Black Beauty. Whoever picks your book will receive the items you want to include that relate to that book. Hopefully that helps if there was confusion. That way we can all start planning our boxes now and do not need to wait to see who receives your swap --- although you can wait if you want to plan your box around who will receive it.

And while I'm here, I'll post the Bingo word for today.
It's ---- Entomologist
So far we have:

19. Forester
21. Entomologist

Have a good day, everyone!
Jeanne

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Here's our Sunday Bingo word:
4. Botantist

Have a wonderful day!
Jeanne

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Just decided to check in to see how things were going thinking that there weren't any new posts. I was wrong and behind. For some reason, even though I checked the box for notifications, I have not gotten any in the last few days. I may uncheck it and then recheck it to see if that helps.

Beautiful day here. Had our Black Swamp Art Festival in town which has been held for 22 years. It has grown so much and is a big draw in our small town. So cool. We went down last night to hear the entertainment and today I went to look at the artwork. Such wonderful work too.

If anyone has any idea as to why I am not getting the posts to my email, let me know. Thanks Margo

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Sounds like you had a nice day, Margo. Thanks for sharing.
We had some hard rain with thunder late this afternoon. We needed the rain so it was fine.

I won't be able to post early on Monday so I am posting the Monday Bingo word now: It's 12. University Professor.

Our list now includes
4. Botantist
12. University Professor
19. Forester
21. Entomologist

if anyone wants to post about this I wondered what stories you liked to read to your children or grandchildren. (Of course, don't give away the book you selected when you do it!)

Some of my favoirtes were the Paddington Bear Books and the Ameila Bedelia Books. The lady who wrote the original Amelia Bedieila Books has passed away, but I went to the Book Festival in Columbia last year and I believe it was her nephew who spoke and he has continued the series by writing more books in the same style.

My daughers and sons-in-law take time to read books to their children. Hooray! I think having a child interested in books is fantastic.

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

One of my favorite stories to read to the kids was Are you my Mother? by PD Eastman. I also liked the Richard Scary books as well as the Doctor Seuss. There were so many wonderful books we read to the kids. I hung on to a lot of them and now buy duplicates for my grandson. I don't want to part with the ones I kept because I plan on reading them when grandkids come to visit. Books are just my favorite thing to give to kids. So much to learn from books.

List of words drawn so far:

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

I thought I would post some more information about the book selection process on Saturday. I will post the list of books Saturday morning, but no one can select her book before 11 a.m. Eastern time. The selections will be in the order posted so if someone posted close to the time you did, look to see who is listed first. You may need to pick again. I'm going to pick last so everyone will have a choice and all the books sound wonderful so don't worry.

Also, remember that the book title that you pick is for the swap package that is sent to you. The person who listed that book will be putting together a box of goodies to mail to you based on that book title. I wish I could remember the tilte of the book I got the last time we did this swap. It was based on fairies in the garden and my swap partner did a great job. She is no longer on the team though. Who knows, maybe she will read this!

I hope everyone sleeps well.
Good night.
Jeanne.

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Sorry to be so late in the day posting the Bingo word. There are times when my computer seems to be running fine, but I go to log on GardenWeb and everything goes haywire. I tried logging on a different way in hopes things would go smoother.

Our new Bingo word is: 16. Plant Geneticist

Full list of words selected:

4. Botanist
9. Agronomist
12. University Professor
16. Plant Geneticist
19. Forester
21. Entomologist

Not enough for anyone to have Bingo yet, but we are working on it!

Jeanne

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Not sure what is going on...but have been unable to log on GW for several days....or I log on and they log me out immediatley....weird again!

I remember reading my very favorite storybook, "The Giving Tree" to my neices during the 1980's. I could not resist....I just went and watched the actual 1973 Giving Tree movie on youtube spoken by author Shel Silverstein..........wonderful!

Happy Wednesday!!

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

I hope to catch up on some reading during my recovery from foot surgery next month. I am going to the library and check out some good books plus I have tons of magazines never opened (still in plastic wrap) that I need to read. I listen to books on tape while at work and have gotten addicted.

Annie-I will have to check out The Giving Tree.

Jeanne-Not sure if I was in the storybook swap years ago or not....been in so many I can't remember all of them. Sure miss a lot of the members from back then.

Let's all welcome NonnaG our newest member.....she is excited about joining our group and we are excited to have her.

Shirley

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Not sure what is going on with GW. I get some posts in my email but not all.

The rains came today and they won't stop. My ornamental pond is full and overflowing. When this happens, the fish end up swimming over to the other side where the filter is. I try to keep them away from there because I have had fish sucked up to the filter and die. Hopefully they are too big for that to happen. I believe we have had over three inches of rain. There are flood warnings in the counties around here. At least nothing came out of the tornado watch.

Margo

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Welcome, NonnaG. I will add you to the swap list.

So sorry about the massive rain, Margo. We got 3 inches one night about a month ago and it caused a mess at our barn which is built on the low spot on our land.

Okay, so now on to Bingo!
Our word for today is 17. Conservationist

The full list is:
4. Botanist
9. Agronomist
12. University Professor
16. Plant Geneticist
17. Conservationist
19. Forester
21. Entomologist

And on we go tomorrow...
Talk later.
Jeanne

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

For the fun of it I looked up the old storybook swap and here is who played and the list of books. No swapping your books now though! The book I selected was Fairy Houses and Diene was the one who sent to me in that swap. Wow, so many different members in that swap.

Goodmorning!!!
Our list of players in order

Denise (antiqueorchid)
Beth (beth_b_kodiak)
Dan(dan_the_mailman)

Dotti (luckyladyd)

Little House on the Prairie
Alice in Wonderland
Snow White
Where the Wild Things are
How do Dinosaurs say Goodnight

... and we picked until all were chosen.

Okay, the thought of showing the old list was nagging me so now I did it. New list is coming soon!
"And to all a Good Night!"

4. Botanist
9. Agronomist
12. University Professor
15, Environmental Scientist
16. Plant Geneticist
17. Conservationist

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Hi everyone. I'm so excited to be a member of the group. My real name is Connie but my grandchildren call me Nonna. The name actually started in 1980 when my baby brother couldn't pronounce my name and Nonna just stuck. I have three wonderful children. They are all grown and out on their own. My oldest daughter has blessed me with 5 beautiful grandchildren. My son and his wife are expecting their first in February. My youngest daughter is taking her time and enjoying life. I went to college to be an accountant so naturally I was a cake decorator for 20 + years. Lol. I love to garden, sew, crochet, and cook. My best friend and I have a pet grooming shop that seems to be doing well. I really enjoy working with pets. If you ever want to know what true love really is, just look at your dog. It's amazing. So there's my life story. Lol. I can't wait to learn about all of you.

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Wonderful to hear more about you, NonnaG. It sounds like your work is based on things you enjoy which is always a good plan!

And now for the books! Remember that you can't start to select them until 11 a.m. Eastern time so they are here for browsing at this time. Earlier posts will not count.

These are the members I have on my list who can select a book:
Promise
Shirley
Sheri
Erica
Nicole
Jeanne
Annie
Jayeanne
Margo
Mary
Susan
NonnaG

Choice of Books
To pick one, just post the name of the book you want to select. The package that comes to you will be based on that book. Look to see which ones have already been claimed so you pick one that is available. If you are posting at the same time as someone else, you might want to check to see that your book came up first and you are not the second one to ask for it.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Big Red Barn
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
If You Give a Mouse a Cooke
Jake Hatches a Plan
Linnea in Monet’s Garden
Magic Locket
Pinkalicious
Pinocchio
Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs
The Hungry Caterpiller
The Wizard of Oz

I will wait to take the last one so everyone will get a choice. All sound great so I don’t think you can be disappointed. After all the books have been selected I’ll post a list of who is sending to whom.
Have fun!

Oh, and I checked were we stood with Bingo. No one is very far towards having 10 of the words so beginning tomorrow I will select 2 words a day to move it along.

Jeanne

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Susan, I need your address. Will be working on your story tomorrow.

Went to a Bridal show today with my daughter and her future mil. We booked the venue at a metro park already, wedding is 9-12-15. We found a photographer, (signed the contract) and found a bakery we will most probably use for the cake. Still need to find a caterer. Had hoped to use the wonderful one we had for our older daughters wedding two years ago but they are retiring next August. :( I know this is all a year away but I also know how quickly that year will go by. Ugh

Weather is cool her but I love it. As long as the frost word isn't mentioned I don't care about cooler weather.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Margo

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Hey ya'll. I hope everyone is well.

Promise may I have your address so that I may send your package? My email address is littlefatdink@hotmail.com I really hope you enjoy it. The story is my oldest daughter's favorite childhood story.

What's with the bingo words? They sound interesting.

Take care all.
NonnaG

NoonaG, Promise was right. We chose Bingo words early in the month before you became a member. Sorry you didn't get to play this time. It's a fairly frequent OBF's game so I'm sure you'll see it again. The words I chose this time were in line with Labor Day so I selected occupations that related to plants.

Have a good day, everyone!

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Margo, it sounds like you are making good progress on planning for your daughter's wedding. September sounds like a beautiful month for it. Both of my daughters lived out of state when "they" were planning so I use the term "they" loosely. Lots of it fell on me with them giving the final approval It's a crazy time!

Annie, sorry about the confusion as to whether the person who sends to us is a surprise or not. I should have mentioned that it was only to be a surprise at the point where we selected a boofk from the list --- and now, as you can see, everyone knows.

Talk more later.
Jeanne

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Jeanne, did you go to Pinocchio's "home town" of Collodi, Italy in Tuscany?
I'm jealous! ;)

I pretty-much dedicated this morning to getting my Pinocchio Package ready. I customized it a bit for Jeanne. We are going to have big rainstorm this afternoon, so the timing was perfect.

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

My package to Susan is ready to go and I will be dropping it off at the PO tomorrow.

DC 94059036993002541268

Was in contact with Susan and she lives just two hours south of me and about a half an hour from my daughter. I mentioned that I was visiting my daughter this weekend and Susan invited me to drop off my package to her and visit her gardens. How thoughtful of her. Unfortunately I am pressed for time on my visit which includes an appointment at a bridal shop. I do hope to make a stop sometime in the future.

Off to weed the gardens since the soil is soft due an earlier rainfall.

Margo

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Wow, things are moving quickly on this swap!
I am still working on my package for Erica.

No, Sheri, I didn't go to Collodi, Italy. The trip I went on took us to Rome and Assisi. There were quite a few shops and displays focusing on Pinocchio in Rome so that's where I saw them. The shops in Italy were so wonderful - although with limited suitcase space, I mostly browsed.

I have my quilt guild meeting tomorrow and it begins early so I am posting the Tuesday Bingo words now:

1. Beekeeper
11. Plant Photographer

The full list:
1. Beekeeper
2. Landscape Architect
4. Botanist
9. Agronomist
10. Chef
11. Plant Photographer
12. University Professor
14. Florist
15, Environmental Scientist
16. Plant Geneticist
17. Conservationist
19. Forester
21. Entomologist
23. Plant Health Inspector
27. Virologist

We got quite a bit of rain over the weekend and it's quite a bit cooler, a welcome relief as far as I'm concerned.

Jeanne

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

I get to send to our newest member Nonnag. Hope you like what I send from the version of the book Nonnag. How interesting that you own a pet grooming shop. I really like dogs as pets and have two. They are outside dogs and help keep the deer out of the yard and away from my daylilies. I'm jealous you have 5 grandchildren and another on the way. I only have two but would love to have more.

Night ladies.

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Jeanne, thanks for responding to my request.

I have five of the ten words I need for Bingo.

Raining here today too. That's ok cause I was too tired to do much of anything today. I ran a 5k yesterday and it was on some rough terrain. Don't usually ache after these runs but different muscles took command. I have two more this month but they will be on flat surface.

I'm thinking about you and praying as you have your procedure today. God bless you.

I'm sorry to hear about Carol. As a founder of this group that I love, I can see she has touched many lives. I send my prayers. God be with her and her family.

“Silently, one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven,
Blossomed the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the angels.”

God bless all my OBF, friends. We all struggle with something everyday, but know you're not alone. I love you.

Jeanne, hope all went well today and be sure to rest.

Everyone here has so many heartfelt words. Every one of my gardenweb friends is a blessing. We can all come on here and share our lives whether it be good news, bad news, or anything the effects our lives and we get such genuine encouragement. I want to thank all of you for your friendship and I hope to meet many more wonderful gardening friends as time goes by.

Margo

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Sorry haven't been on much. Just got over a bug and been a long month already.
For those who knew the lovely Carol, she passed away this afternoon! Heaven gained another lovely angel She will be greatly missed!
Please pray for her family, I know it's hard on them. I am crying and she is just in my gardening family! So many of you are such blessings after so many years!
Melinda

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

I'm so sorry to hear about Carol. She brought us lots of fun in this group over the years. Promise, I love the Longfellow quote that you posted. I hadn't heard that one before.

I'm still very sleepy from the sedation I got, but I wanted to say that I received my storybook package from Sheri. It's fantastic and what a nice day to receive it! I will post the details of the swap items tomorrow and take a picture as well. Sheri, you spoiled me a whole lot!

Jeanne

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Melinda, thank you so much for posting about the passing of Carol. She has been on my mind all day. Obviously I never met her but it doesn't matter, I knew her as a fellow gardener and a good online friend. She will be missed.

I know Carol loved roses. I put in a new rose a month ago and I am going to dedicate that rose to Carol. When I tend it, I will think of her.

Margo

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Margo-The rose is a lovely gesture in memory of Carol. When a plant is planted in memory of someone you can definitely remember them always especially when it blooms. Thank you for being a gardening friend as well.

Melinda-Sorry to read Austin had a dirt bike wreck...It's good that God made our hearts so strong. What a scare when something happens to our family. Good to hear he will be OK.

Carol Bea rest in peace and may you now care for God's garden. I know it must be a sight to behold gardening friend.

Jeanne-Glad you now have the tests behind you. Praying for good results.

Humm...I thought I posted earlier, but I must not have. Well here's it is again :
Hi All, Long time no see for some of you. I just heard about my pal Carol, and I'm so very sad that she is gone. If it wasn't for her, I would of never joined this group when it first started, and I would never become friends with so many of you over the years.
I will miss her humor, but I will always laugh to myself of the times it got her in trouble!
It is a very sad day,
Remy

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

So nice to hear from so many about Carol and her passing. She would have been touched.

Thursday's Bingo words:

Jeanne

 o
RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

I'm back with another thank you to Sheri for the wonderful Pinocchio package. I took a picture to share and I probably won't get everything on the list because the box was so full!
Notice the cute fox figurine (J. Worthington Foulfellow) - I think I will add him to a fall centerpiece for my table
Oreo Cookies and Biscuits with Chocolate
Wonderfully made tags with Infomation and pictures of all kinds - even Bollodi, Italy, where the author of Pinocchio lived.
Soft wire plant ties - clever tag with a picture that relates: this one says "I've got no strings to tie me down."
Many many packs of beautiful seeds for my garden next year
Empty plastic seeds bags ("Before Pinoccio became a real boy, he was empty inside ... just like these empty seed bags.")
And the following irises and daylilies:
Devil's Riot
Fall Fiesta
Dangerous Mood
Little Gypsy Vagabond
Siloam New Toy

Sheri, I can't imagine anyone putting together a more impressive package representing Pinocchio. Thank you so much!

Still not feeling well today, but I have another doctor's appointiment tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. Like eveyone else, I hate being sick and that has been the case a lot for the past year and a half.

Have a good day!
Jeanne

So many creative packages here. Enjoy seeing what people have received.

Another beautiful day here today. I need to get out and do a final weeding tomorrow and then start putting away lawn ornaments and emptying pots that have pooped out.

Have a good weekend everyone. Margo

Annie, congrats and take your time with the package. I'm not done with Shirley's Linnea in Monet's Garden either. I'll have some surprises for Shirley.

Erica, I was at the PO today, you moved up on my mail out list.

I'm watching the convoluted 100 package seed threads. I think Sheri has the right idea.

Not easy finding yarn in Monet colors to crochet a muskrat sweater.

Ha! Yea Mary, I'm always tempted to join all those swaps... but, after I thought about it, I decided the "Themed Garden" swap is plenty for me. Plus, I know the hostess is awesome. ;) Also excited for Annie's swap next month, too.

Above, that is actually a thing on Etsy.

I like St Francis, and on Etsy there is a "felted hat, Saint Francis" amid all the junk. It's a full needle sculpted figure of St Francis reclining across the hat Not a wide brimmed gardening hat.

Hello all. I had a wonderful day at work. My little canine babies are always glad to see me. ( that is until it's time to brush their teeth ). I had a hairless cat today. It's really strange. When I first met her, I was afraid to touch her. I guess I thought my hair would fall out. Lol. She is very loving. She needed to snuggle in her towel for a little while. After work I made a mad dash to the post office to mail my package for Promise. And then it was home to play fetch with my little dog Dinky. All in all a lovely day. I hope you all had a wonderful day as well

Funny story

In the mayhem of collecting seeds, drying seeds, packaging for swaps and the overall madness that happens in my house, I misplaced seeds. I specifically bought seeds for my Wizard of Oz swap with Canyonwind, Annie. There happen to be a pack of Hairyball seeds in with those seeds. So late last night, I was frantically searching the house looking for my hairyballs.

More importantly the other seeds for my swap. I was in tears because I didn't know what I would send in place of those seeds if I didn't find them!!! I had all but talked myself out of doing swaps on GW because my insane life and my house eating things.

Mentally I'm trying to retrace what I was doing the last time I seen my hairyballs. After a good 60 minutes of searching, I looked in my seed bucket, which I had dumped out and look through several times. Finally, I found my hairyballs,(and other seeds) inside my bag of lettuce seeds.

Hallelujah!

My heart was just jolted in terror that I lost those packs of seeds! I can laughing about it now. Especially when I think about the effort I put fourth to find my hairyballs.

My question to you ladies is,,,, how do you store and organize your seeds? That experience was awful! I don't want to lose my hairyballs again! lol

Annie - I will get your package out as soon as I can. I've had sick girls home 3 days last week, which has put me behind on what I wanted to get done. Please forgive me. I will send as soon as I can.

Promise,

Scarey story! What did your hubby have to say about you losing your hairyballs? I'm sure you were happy to find them, though. I know I would have had a heart attack if I couldn't find my swap items.

RE: NEW: Sept. Our Bloomin' Friends Swap: Storybooks

Promise... I store my veggie seed packets in an alphebetized accordion file. For example, all my peas (snow peas, snap peas, sweet peas) are filed under "P". When I want to plant some peas, I take-out all my packets filed under "P" and decide what I what to plant.

Right now, all my flower seeds are in a one gallon ziploc baggie. I'm going to buy a separate alphabetized accordion file for them, eventually, and file them under their variety name. I think they cost a little over $7, if I remember correctly.

I don't worry about long-term storage, because I usually plant, trade or give them away before they are 3 years old.

I hope that helps a little. :)

Super swap packages! I love the Big Red Barn.

Annie, that is fine for you to post before the end of the month. You are always so creative with the swaps you are hostess for - can't wait to see what it will be.

Many of my seeds get stored in those decorative boxes (shoe box sized) that are intended for storing photos. I add alphabetical dividers and then place my seed packets in clear baggies behind the letter that it goes under (for example marigold, morning glories, etc. all in a zip lock bag together after the divider for M. I also have a big shopping bag with others - this is where my tin storage container with my tomato seeds and seeds I am planning to plant soon, etc. go. (Of course with those that are set aside to get planted soon - it doesn't always happen!)

Annie, it is not a problem at all.... I will feel better if I have Shirley's ready to mail, before mine shows up. I'm tweaking it for time spent off her feet.

Erica, I sent you my address with the right zip code. Your little Nightshades are coming along well. Sioux tomato seeds ready but Lemon Peppers still out there coloring up.

Jayeanne, I didn't forget your tomato seeds, you are moving up the list. Email me your address.

Promise, hugs to you, just cuz.

Jeanne, thanks for hosting this fun, fun swap. I could do this one every month, bibliophile here.

All my OBF friends (and FOTESS) I recommend you read Linnea in Monet's Garden and the first two books in the series. If you never read them or haven't in a long time.
