I see I missed a bunch. I've been working on my wife's van a few days ago. Ever since, it's been downhill. I also noticed I haven't received any email on this thread.

Becki, Yep, I can put you down for the Bolivian Rainbow Chili. Can I get the 7 pot Brain Strain and Chocolate Mint? Those might go down good together. What do you think? Lol! Is there something else you want from mine?

Becki, I just added the Bolivian you wanted to my list above. I was thinking I'd owe you one more, if you said yes to my last question. I counted wrong in there. I'd actually owe you 2 more if your okay with it. I do have plenty of Bolivian. Let me know what you think. I know my list isn't much.

becki25msmolly - I just found out that some sort of weevil got into my hibiscus seed. It wasn't near any of the other seeds so they're all fine. I do have enough that appear sound for the trade but... perhaps you'd prefer to choose something else?

First time saving hibiscus seed, apparently there's a learning curve. Sorry.

catanache, I had the same problem last year! They are hibiscus beetles or something. I looked it up last year, do they put holes in the seeds? If thats the one, you can freeze the seeds for 2-3 weeks after harvesting and that should kill the egg/larvae in the seeds. It says that the ones with holes have a chance of germinating but I have had near 100% germination by doing the freezing technique and not much luck with ones with holes in them!

    bumblebee23,

My bubble mailer, packed full of seeds is in the loving care of the USPS. The tracking number is 9114999944238285969836. That package was $9. I'm gonna have to get better at my packaging. I included almost a whole book of stamps for the return trip. I'd love tracking for the return trip, if you don't mind. I may need to send cash on the side for the tracking. God bless you bumblebee, for you are about to be bombarded by seeds!

Becki25msmolly - I did get the Oregano, Purple Basil and Chamomile in the package that went out today.

Thank you everyone for the side trades! It was really fun

I sent mine in the mail as well today!!! :) I can't wait for all these seeds!

The hibiscus seeds I did that way last year with freezing, didn't have any bugs turning up in them and they germinated nicely with wintersowing and Spring Sowing! I never knew about them till last year but they were a creepy find in my seed stash!!!

BumbleBee, Thank you for hosting and I had fun! I definitely should get a lot of vegetable seeds from this swap to get me off to a good start next year and I am looking so forward to the peaches n dreams hollyhock! Today I had to put up fencing cuz the bunnies or something is after my hollyhocks again....No not the black ones I planted, just the colorful ones...I don't get it! I love hollyhocks and I plan on protecting these seeds/seedlings of the peaches n dreams with my life! LOL

    hi all =)

i sent my seed package out yesterday in the afternoon. boy was that a monster package. i did manage to stuff it together in there and taped and glued it up! but then i got to the post office with it and they were trying to charge me over 10 dollars to send! yikes, wasnt expecting that. so i grabbed a flat rate envelope and put it in there.

just fyi, to those who may not know, the flat rate bubble envelope is a pretty good deal. its a "if it fits it ships" flat rate price of 6 dollars and some change. for some plant and cuttings and large trades i have stuffed one of those flat rate bubblies to the brim and it was way cheaper than just sending it straight.

but bumblbee i worry a bit because i might not have put enough postage for the return trip, though quite probably it will be a smaller return package than i sent. i put the 5 stamps that were requested, but i wonder if that will do it. i didnt think about that till it was gone. perhaps all of our side trades bulked it up too much. a few years ago five stamps could get even a monster envelope enough postage. but the post office have gone up in price and gotten a lot fussier about bubblies since then.

    leilahamaya,

Thank you for telling me about flat rate bubble mailers. I didn't even think about it. Those are probably bigger than what I sent today too. I had to go to the other post office nearby, because my most local one had already closed for the day. My local post office would have helped me. Instead, I ended up with a person in training. Thank you for the heads up tho. I will use the priority bubble in the future!!!

leilahamaya -- I had the same problem. I had the 5 stamps in my pack and was about to seal it, but decided I would weigh it first to make sure and it turned out to be $3.58. I was lucky enough to just be able to put appropriate postage inside, without hastle.

@ everyone else -- Do make sure you check the postage price before enclosing only 5 stamps. This his been such a fun swap. We don't want to short Anna on postage.

yeah the priority flat rate bubbly envelopes are a really good deal for super huge and heavy packages. it does come with a tracking number.

it was pretty weird that they said it would be over 10 dollars straight. she said something like it was just a little too heavy so it had to be first class or better ? idk. i was thinking it mightve been ok, maybe seven or 8 stamps.
my particular post office is a bit weird and i have those kinds of post masters who are really sticklers for putting extra charges and over charging.
but anywho i will have to find a way to get the extra postage to the hostess. let me know what to do. i am thinking that it might be a smaller return package (i had a lot of bulky and heavier seeds in there) maybe 7 or 8 stamps, but i just didnt think about it till it was gone.

Hey guys! We're getting closer to the deadline, and I see that a lot of you have mailed your packages in which is great. Still plenty of time for those of you who haven't yet.

I guess I should have thought about extra postage on the larger packages, but didn't even think to post anything on here. To those of you who've already sent in your packages and posted about being worried about not enough return postage, don't worry about it for now. I'll figure things out, and let you know if there are issues, but mostly this will just help me learn what I should do in the future if I do a big swap like this again. If anyone hasn't sent in their package yet and you notice that it costs more than 5 stamps to send your package to me, please include extra postage in your package if possible. Any extra stamps will be returned to you with your seeds. Thanks!

josephene - Welcome! I'll send you my address by email.

saopk - Welcome also! I'll set aside the seeds you requested and send you my address.

EricaBraun - Thanks for including the extra postage - I'll return any extra with your seeds. I'll let you know when your package arrives, and if I don't see it by early next week I'll have you send your CID number. Thanks!

Promise - I can definitely use the extra postage to send your return package with tracking info. I'll send back any extra stamps as well. Thanks!

heavenlyfarm - Sounds great. I'll let you know when it arrives here. And yes, I'm sure you'll be receiving a LOT of veggie seeds!

leilahamaya - Don't worry about the extra postage for now. I'll see what your return package comes to and I'll figure things out then. I can't believe they told you $10. That seems pretty steep! I send packages out often, and even priority mail is usually under $10 for up to 3 pounds depending on where it's going. There's a postal lady at one of the local post offices here whose prices always come up as $1-2 more expensive than when the other workers weigh my packages. I'm onto her...maybe she's friends with your postal worker! :)

    Thanks!

yes ! thats totally how it is, one postal person will charge you one price and another will charge another. you would think its all set out solid, but theres a lot of funny bits to the postal prices, and some postal employees are easy, some over charge. where i was on the coast before i could get away with two stamps on a small thin bubbly. here it is ALWAYS 2.50, no matter how thin i make them or even putting them squeezed to be thin in normal envelopes. she actually gets out her 1/4 inch dealio and half heartedly attempts to push them through and doesnt, then claiming it is over 1/4 inch. ahhh! but theres really nothing i can do. when i first moved here i tried as politely as possible to contest, but i live in a small town with no other options for mailing so whatever she says goes!

yeah it was a real surprise that she weighed the envelope and said 10 bucks +. i have mailed heavier bigger boxes for much less, but then she said that weird thing about it being an ounce too heavy so it had to go first class or better? ah how knows. but at least there was the flat rate bubbly, so it worked out. thanks for being cool about the postage. and if it does end up being really expensive do let me know how to get the difference to you.

Just mailed my seeds. Ended up being a little under $3, which is what I expected. Sounds like this page might be useful: http://postcalc.usps.com/
Click on the ? next to the different shapes to see what the different dimensions are. The shape of the package can affect price as much as weight does.

    Hope that's helpful.

Thank you all for providing the postal information. I was wondering how to order the bubble envelopes from the USPS. I have been going to the post office and they only carry the boxes or envelopes. I went to another post office and the cashier told me we have to order it. I was going to find out how to order today and pmb2005 provided the link so I don't have to spend time figuring it out.

If anyone else has suggestions on how we can reduce the rate of mailing. That would be wonderful.

Thank Goodness Its Thursday, take care!!

Another thing I find useful is to pay for postage online if you are sending a larger package. I use a small kitchen scale to weigh my package, and then enter it online, pay, and print the postage label. Doesn't work if you want to use actual stamps, but the savings definitely adds up!

I'll let you know when your package arrives catanache. Thanks!

yeah here they stock them in the post office, actually i grab a couple of extras for using the padding sometimes, so maybe this is why they dont stock them elsewhere =) other wise people come in for the freebie bubbly =)

Another 'postal' story: Went in town today to mail seeds for 3 swaps and encountered a new worker who could only sell me a book of stamps and didn't know how to weigh my packages or give me delivery confirmation. The other worker had left her all alone while she 'stepped out for 10 minutes.' The other worker saw me in line with my packages before she left. I came home with all 3 packages and will need to drive into town again tomorrow to mail them!

Went back in on Friday, and the new worker was at the counter again. I thought, "Oh no! Here we go again!" This time she managed to get all the packages weighed and add the tracking numbers. Yeah! Seeds are on their way.

Glad she was able to help you the second time around. How ridiculous for them to leave a new worker alone who isn't even fully trained in! I'll let you know when your package arrives.

crazyfarmgirl14, heavenlyfarm, EricaBraun, and bethw336 - your packages have all arrived safe and sound. I'll have time tomorrow night to open them up and add all of your seeds to the swap "inventory" I've been tracking in an excel document. Even if you already posted all of your haves on here it's still exciting to go through them!

Bumblebee just wanted to let you know my seeds will be in the mail wither today or most likely tomorrow. I had planned on getting them out Friday but our well pump went out and we have been working on it since Wednesday. We finally got it back in about 3 AM this morning.

Bumblebee, Sent mine out today. Watch out for the Bee on the package. I couldn't get him off. =) Figured he may enjoy the ride! I'll send you the tracking info in just a little bit. It says it should be there on the 17th. I was surprised. I put 6 stamps on it, then thought... I better run it by and see if that's enough. The lady said $2.50 would do the job. At the same time taking that stamper and making sure every single stamp got the ink. I mean, I think she actually hit it 6 times. Got sticklers here, lol! I put $4.00 in the package. If anyone comes short and there's enough left - you can put it towards theirs. I know it's not much, but it adds up.
