UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie- ready to go
| | |
Posted by diene Z4ME (My Page) on Wed, Sep 30, 09 at 16:19
Hello All;
Sorry for the delay on this, life has been a bit challenged. I am posting a picture of my front garden as mum are not normally hardy to this part of the world but these did great!! It might be the soil I bought from the elk farm last year, who knows.
Beyond that;
Here are the partner's.
I have all the newbies addies, I did not include anyone who did not send me their address so if any of the veterans are feeling left out, newbies can have two parents, let me know.
georgia_teacher has been adopted by poisondartfrog
jessied is paired with plant one on me
jaydeeinma is now mine
smpetrou belongs to lindaruzicki
ivyp is now part of dirtdiggin's family
columbine21 has been adopted by tracyvine
maps31 is paired with canyonwind
carrlinesue belongs to amelia_pepper_lady
Now some of you have asked for seeds and some have only offered seeds so I would say that send what you can, veterans. I tried to make your newbie close geographically so I might not suggest a one rate box or even priority. Some of the newbies were willing to pay postage if you have stuff but not the means to ship. Each pair can decide what works for them.
Newbies should remember that as important as the plants and seeds are, the new relationship you can develop is very important.
Please contact your new "parent" and let them know a bit about you.
I am here if anyone, veteran or newbie, needs some help shipping or receiving.
Please make sure you let us know when you send, DC are not required but boxes are usually better received when we know they are coming. Newbies it is imperative that you let us know when you receive from your new sponsor. An expression of appreciation is all your veteran was expecting when they signed on for this.
I am hoping to get my box done this week but I planned on having it done yesterday so I will not be promising anything.
I am hoping all boxes can be out in the next two weeks, if anyone has a problem with that, you can e-mail me privately and we will figure something out.
Thanks again to the veterans and welcome to all of our newbies. |

| I saw a Cris Craft 22 ft ski boat take the bottom off by a rock. I heard a woman exclaim how mad her dad was going to be over his boat. Can you say 'joyride'? it is freezing and I think my tomatoes have turned into green weapons. (I had a late growth spurt ... I read that if you mix Tums in water and use that next time you watered that it would be good for your plant ... it worked) ~peace~ Maryann |

| Amelia, I have been trying to get on and give props. No excuses. My Dawgs played three and a half great quarters, but they crapped out when it mattered.Tennessee is next weekend, then a bye, and then the BIG GAME, GA/FL. Who do you guys play next week? If it's 'Bama, definitely count me in. |

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie- ready to go

| OH MY Diene... That's some shocking imagery. We live on the water and have to take a boat or barge to and from home, so we are on the water LOTS. Last season, an idividual decided...in March...in the Puget Sound, that he needed to go parasailing...without any form of foot support. We were in vehicles on our local barge, watching this individual travelling at least 30 MPH + across the water. We all wondered how he would get back. It's nearly 3 miles to land in the direction he was going...so swimming would take some effort, not to mention, we average about 47 degrees in water temp. That offers about 20 minutes before hypothermia sets in...a bit longer in a wet suit, but needless to say...IT'S FREAKIN COLD!!!!!!!! He lost it in a wake...and tried and tried to get his sail to help him back up. Well instead of helping him back up, it kept flipping him into the air. He'd catch the wind and his entire body would flip up out of the water and back down. It was quite the site. Finally, our island boat had to pick him up to take him to safety. Have to say it was over 50 minutes before he was picked back up, but he was quite happy to see dry boat. Can you believe stupidity? When the wind takes you miles one direction, shouldn't you have a plan to get back? |

A New Member box is en route to Georgia. My plan was to start at the hilltop garden and work my way down digging plants, but the box filled up before I got past the picnic area. I ended up with an eclectic mix of plants types but I think they should all do well in South Georgia. DC 03091140000033214681 |

Hello Jaydeeinma; Your box left today. I am not the best packer but everything should be fine. All plants were barerooted so you should soak them for a few hours (I usually leave them over night, before planting). Any questions, please contact me. Enjoy. diene PS. Hello georgia_teacher, We need to know what Alana sent so we can really be jealous. Half of the fun of a round robin is peeking at each others boxes so spill the beans. What did you get? Inquiring minds want to know. diene |

RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie- ready to go

Oh, gosh. Let's see, I got several Swan Lake meadow sage plants, a clump of Black Scallop ajuga, a Magic Carpet daylily, a White Texas Star hibiscus, a clump of African mask, some Japanese painted fern, Beauty Berry Callicarpa rubella, a Florida weigela, and the following seeds: Cherry and Ivory Swizzle zinnia, Bridal Bouquet, Hibiscus moscheutos Luna White, Lantana camara Lucky White, White Victoria sage, White Lace Flower (orlaya grandiflora), and white-varigated money plant. If I left anything out, Alana, I do apologize. There was just so much! |
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie- ready to go

Georgia_teacher that was a great box, Alana really did a nice job. Well I am very concerned right now. I sent three boxes last Thursday and the PO has no record of any of them. Two arrived because I heard from the recipients but I have not heard from my newbie and that would have been the third box which could have walked from my house to hers in this time frame. Jay did you get it? By the way for all the newbies, it would be very polite to post what you receive and also to put a note on the rate and review forum. Two reasons, one it is the proper thing to do and second you will become familiar with how to use the rate and review forum. That is a very valuable resource here at GW for individual trades and swaps. I recommend you check someone out before you send a big box of stuff. It is a bit tricky to use at first but there are lots of instructions. We are going to have a killing frost tonight, they are predicting 20's. It is way too early for those temps in my mind. Oh well. diene |

I got a box

| This was posted as a new round robin but it should be part of this thread. That is another thing to add to the info to give to newbies so it is my fault that JD started a new thread. Thanks for the nice review JD. Posted by jaydeeinma MetroWest5 (My Page) on Mon, Oct 19, 09 at 12:43 Hello; I am sooo excited to have received my first ever round robin box of goodies from diene!!!! Lots and lots of plants for me to get into the ground before it starts snowing here. (wait. it DID snow yesterday, didn't it? LOL...) Diene was so very kind and helpful answering my questions and patiently waiting for me to return from my trip w/relatives to see the lovely foliage in New Hampshire before I was able to respond that I received the box. I hope someday to return the favor to another newbie in the RR forum with such enthusiasm and kindness as she has shown to me !!!!! JD. |

| Oh my GOODNESS! Our postal service gets worse every day. A 1 day shipment sent on the 21st is now out for delivery....today! The package has been MIA since Tuesday...and arrived in Portland last night with no previous scanning. GRRRRRRR... Anyway, Ivy I'm so sorry for the delay and I do hope that you enjoy your package. RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie- ready to go

| Waaaaaaaa. I didn't know about this. I hope to get in on a new swap. |
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie- ready to go
| | |
| JW, I am willing to be adopted again. :P JK It was a lot of fun though, and PDF, most of the things that you sent already have significant new growth! I think the White Texas Star hibiscus may need a little more sun than she's getting now, but everything else looks great! |
RE: UPDATE: Adopt a Newbie- ready to go
| | |
I am bringing this up to the top for two reasons, one is Rebekah's box is still being packed and so this is not officially done. Second, several of the adoptees did not post receipt of their boxes which is very bad form. While all the veterans offered their time, largesse and postage because they are generous people, part of any swap is to post receipt of your goodies and thank the sender. Those of you newbies who have done that probably have their first positive rate and review. That is not the reason to post your appreciation, I should not have to explain the reason for that. I would like to once again thank all the veterans that volunteered to help make this work. What a great group you are. diene |

| Thank you, Tracy! I am getting excited! I think it is definitely worth the wait. I have enjoyed getting to know you. Your friend, Rebekah |
Thanks for Everything!

Today I received the box Tracy sent! It was packed with goodies. Tracy even included a bottle of her homemade vanilla! She sent me an interesting book and some organic gardening magazines. And last but not least, she included a ziploc bag stuffed with seeds. She sent many items from my wish list and even included some rare ones. Due to her being ill with the flu and complications, Tracy was unable to mail plants at this time. But she has offered to send plants in the spring. Tracy has also been very helpful and informative in her emails. I am very grateful to this caring person. Diene, if you host a similar swap next year, I would love to adopt a newbie. Thank you for hosting this one! Thanks again so very much, Tracy! -Rebekah |

I am having a wonderful time with our emails. I look forward to sending you some live plants in the spring, I wish I had been able to get out there and dig them earlier for you. Hugs! Tracy |
