| I posted this as # 150 on the previous "buried alive" thread...whoops, meant to start a new one...so here ya go!
As a fifty-one year old "youngster", it is rather sad what has happened to the carefree fun of Halloween. Going from house to house with your buddies, without parents... tricking (no, not that tricking) and treating until 11pm or later. It was good old fun. Parents did not worry like they do today. They did not have too.
Just call me.....Spot...the fire breathing dragon who would LOVE to get a bottle of vino buried in a box. Denise (your next to choose)
Your choices....
Correct me if I am wrong on the above. I am off to get some alone time under the staircase and consume some Doggie Din Din. Have a great night! Spot |

| I choose Count Von Count. The watered down version of count dracula. O.K. time to count some bats or cobwebs or anything. Dan, your turn. Dan, have you been into that bottle of wine. I thought you were saving it for one of us. Denise |
|
| Spot, I am rolling on the floor at "no, not that tricking", oh my goodness! Too funny! You have me remembering being a ten year old girl out trick-or-treating with my friends, pillow cases full of candy in hand, no parents, knocking on strangers doors, miles away from our starting point of our street. We walked for hours and no one bothered us except for the occasional group of silly boys. It was always a magical night full of freedom and laughter. So different from bringing our kids out now. We live on a busy county road with no sidewalks and few children. A subdivision is directly behind our property so we walk the kids through the woods to trick-or-treat over there. We watch them walk up to each door and make sure they say please and thank you (after their goofy chimes of Trick or Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat). It is soooo different from the good old days. They love it just as much as we did but don't know how things used to be. Enjoy your alone time under the staircase and do not gorge yourself too much on your Din Din! Dan, I'm a tea (well coffee) totaller from way back so your generous offer would be lost on me, now hubby, on the other, hand would surely appreciate a good glass of wine. He's kind of cute when he's tipsy so why not? LOL! |
|
| I don't take my kids door to door...to many weirdo's. We visit relatives and then go to "trunk or treat". Local churches host their own event. They have church members decorate their cars in the church parking lot and then you walk around the parking lot and get candy. It sounds weird, but it is very safe and controlled. I also don't need to worry about my little guy getting scared. Most of them are dressed in cute costumes..one guy even dressed as Santa. There are at least 3 local churches that did this last year and we made it to two of them. |

| Hmmmmm, Dan, I am wondering if I happen to be Count Duckula. He kind of looks like me on a bad hair day which happens more than not. I don't like blood and I love vegies. That would mean you would be sending a box to me and I am not sure about that one. :) Could be scary. Did I mention I don't like scary? :0 Can't wait to find out. I have been plotting ideas for my box. Waiting, waiting, waiting. These swaps are just too much fun. |

| Hello! I can't wait for partners!! Halloween was always fun for us as kids. We, too, went all over the neighborhood. My kids still went around town when they were 6th graders. Right when they were getting too old to go. We live in a small town. Less than 800 people, closer to 600. I don't mind the scary stuff, and enjoy good scary movies. The ones that scare me the most are anything to do with the devil or being possessed. Usually for Halloween, the neighboring communities have haunted houses, or parks. Usually my mom wants to come with and I think we have just as much fun as the kids. I'm usually laughing so hard that I darn near have an accident!! Last year it was indoors, and my mom and I went with my boys. My daughter goes with her friends. It was so dark and it was like a maze, and I got behind a small group of young girls, so I thought I would stay near them and let them 'lead' us out. I had my youngest by his shirt, so I wouldn't lose him, and pretty soon I hear this panicked (sp?) voice yelling "Karen! KA-ren!!" Here my mom got separated from me, and couldn't find us. So I was yelling "MOM!" But I was laughing so hard I could barely say it. Remember, you can't see anything!! And they play scary sounds, too. I imagine the adults putting it on, who are hiding and scaring you, get a kick out of the adults like us. The year they had it at the park, I went with my sister and her kids. They were much younger. I hadn't even had my youngest yet. I had to carry my son through the whole thing, and my sister was screaming, and we were laughing so hard. After that year, my mom started coming with. It's hilarious. We get maybe 20 trick or treaters. Not as many as I think I would. The local Nursing Homes put on nice none-scary deals for the kids to go to, and that is where most of the trick or treaters go. Our school lets businesses come set up and hand out candy also. Well, I suppose, I've got a book started, so I will wrap this up, and check back later! Karen |

| Count Duckula, your quote, "So, what say you Little Tall?"........it does sound familiar but that is possibly because I have been thinking about it. I did a search and came up with NADA. I ran it by a few people who are into quotes and they were stumped for an answer. Little Tall...Little Tall...Little Tall, I rather like it! I would suspect it was said to a "little person"????? Throw me some clues!! FYI...I had forgotten that the 1999 Stephen King movie, "Storm of the Century", takes place on the ficticious "Little Tall Island". Has anybody seen the TV movie or read the book? Spot AKA Annie |

| Sorry guys. We are having major storms here, but I will be back later and send out the emails. I plugged back up just to give you guys a heads up. Last time I kept my computers plugged into the modem during this kind of storm I lost 2 computers and this time I did some serious upgrades so I am not taking chances. Back asap. Alana |
|
| It has been raining here again, too. Nothing major though. No wind, thunder or lightening. Just rain. I wouldn't take any chances either, Alana! We'll be patiently waiting! :0) |

| Annie, you got the answer and didn't realize it. Now, that's funny! "What say you Little Tall?" was said by Robbie, the town manager in Storm of the Century. He said it at the town meeting held to decide if the town would give up one of their children. Here's a synopsis of the story. It does make a good and scary movie! Synopsis of Stephen King's Storm of the Century... In a dream, the townspeople see themselves walking into the sea two-by-two with the word Croatoan (a reference to the colony of Roanoke) carved on their heads. Eventually, Mike figures out that Linoge is the demon Legion (the former an anagram of the latter) and agrees to organize the townspeople so they can hear his demands. What Linoge desires is an heir, one of the eight small children that he had incapacitated early on in the miniseries — someone to "carry on his work when he can no longer do it himself", as although Linoge's life spans millennia, he is not immortal. Any of the eight children, he states, will suit him. After he leaves, a strong argument breaks out in the town hall. Mike Anderson wants the townsfolk to unitedly reject Linoge's request, saying it would be better for all of the adults and children to die than to give Linoge a child to raise. He thinks that if they all say no to him in unison he will go away just like a storm. Mike asks "how can they give a child to that man?" Robby, the town manager, asks another question "Even if they manage to survive Linoge, how would they feel knowing they got all eight children killed?" The others argue that the child would not die, and might even develop certain advantages like the ability to use magic, and to live for a very long time. But the biggest argument is that to deny Linoge would mean the death of all the children, and nothing is worth letting eight children die, not even doing the right thing or the grief of the parents whose child would be raised by Linoge. Because of this, the rest of the town (including Mike's wife, Molly) want to agree to Linoge's demand; they are fearful that the eight children will die if Linoge is not satisfied, and all the adults will be forced to drown themselves as Linoge has promised. After all, it seems that the village of Roanoke defied Linoge, and they all died, including the children. Over Mike's arguments, the town gives in to Linoge's demand. A random drawing is organized by Linoge, and after drawing the single black-colored weirding stone, Ralphie Anderson (Mike's and Molly's son) is chosen. At that, Linoge removes Ralphie from the town over Mike's and Molly's emotional breakdowns. Mike divorces Molly, telling her he "has run out of reasons to stay." In the film's epilogue, Mike explains (in voiceover narration) that the community of Little Tall, which specializes in keeping secrets, has tried to heal from the traumatic events by attempting to return to a state of normalcy. The epilogue reveals that Mike, angry that the town (and his wife) was willing to sacrifice his child to appease pure evil, divorces Molly and leaves town. Molly, who is now remarried to Mike's deputy, has been going to therapy, in which she continues to deny what really happened to her son but admits (for reasons she refuses to specify) that Mike was right to leave her. Mike, meanwhile, is working as a federal marshal stationed in San Francisco, when he spots Linoge and Ralphie on a busy street. Mike calls out to his son and they stop to look back at him. Ralphie makes eye-contact with him and bares his teeth to him; they are fangs, showing that Ralphie is no longer human. Mike is horrified to see this. However, before Mike has a chance to react, he loses them both in the crowd, and they vanish down a long alley. In a closing voiceover, Mike says he considered calling Molly to tell her but "in the daylight, I know better." Alana, don't feel pressured to "name names". Wait until those storms pass and protect your pcs. We'll wait. |

| Carol, I am 99.99999999% sure you are not Barnabus and I am not Spot. You send to Barnabus and I send to Spot. I went back to previous posts to confirm and that is the way I understand it. Now if I have this wrong, throw me in the brew pot and cook me good...LOL! Annie |
|
| cAROL - I'm not playing this month but I'm pretty sure you did choose Barnabus to send to you. I think Alana is the only one, at present, to know what character she assigned you. Pat |

| YOWZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been confused and still am,ha ha I have been signing my postes,Barnabus, thinking i am He. So, I am NOT, Barnabus, i am some one i don;t know, and i do not know who Barnabus is either*****right***???? Dan, explain please.:0) |
|
| Hey cAROL, none of us knows who we are yet. Pat's right on target. We only know that we have a certain character to send to. You send to Barnabus and I send to Thing and so on. Alana will email you with BC's addy this evening or whenever the storm passes. Don't worry about the confusion. We all have shared that experience in the group. Alana, I'm praying that you don't have storm damage again. Stay low! |
|
| Tracy - LOL! I think even you are confused. I went back to the original thread to read this from Alana: "Starting with Heidi and proceeding in order of the list each person will choose which personality they would like to receive a box from. We should be through with this by midnight Thursday. On Friday, I will send each person an email that discloses their assigned identity along with the address of the person they are sending to." So I think when cAROL chose Barnabus, she was choosing to receive a box from Barnabus, right? She doesn't know what character has been assigned to her (cAROL) of which player is Barnabus. Only Alana knows. I'm not reading that wrong, am I? |

You probably sent them to me, but if you sent it through GW, apparently there have been problems with the email for the past couple of weeks. I don't want to send these out until I have them because some folks may be able to figure out who they are receiving from because of the omissions. I think I got that right! I think that's right! |

| Alana, you haven't mailed out the partners yet, have you? I don't want to miss your e-mail when it gets here and want to make sure I haven't already deleted it by mistake. On another completely different note, I've been issued a "come hither and harvest" today by my parents, so tomorrow morning I'm heading out to the farm and bringing home a bunch of veggies. How cool is that? They're tired of canning tomatoes, so I'm getting a bunch of romas. And, I know I'll be bringing home a lot of onions. Who knows what else? So, tomorrow it's going to be a good day! First I'll be visiting with my parents, and then I'll be in the kitchen doing a bit of canning. Sounds good to me! So what's everyone else doing this weekend? |

| Carol, I can, quilt, weave baskets, cook, and have even designed my own clothing a time or two. And don't forget I like to garden too! And yes, I have even been known to separate the whites from the colors when doing laundry! My parents raised all of their kids (5) to be self-sufficient, and seem to have done a pretty good job of it. My older brother had to teach his first two wives how to make mashed potatoes and gravy, can you believe it? LOL! Ask me how I cook my Thanksgiving turkey in a crockpot sometime. |
|
| Dan, watch out if cAROL is your sender. She may kidnap the first single lady she finds and mail her to you. Well, I just ruined dinner. I am so mad at myself! I grabbed hot paprika at the grocery store without realizing it and threw a ton of it into the pan with my chicken that I was browning. I thought the paprika's color was a little off so looked at the canister again and saw that there it was plain as day "HOT PAPRIKA". I thought, how hot can hot paprika be so I tasted it and it wasn't too bad... at first. Then my tongue started to tingle, then the roof of my mouth started to burn, now I'd be willing to chop my tongue out with a cleaver to get it to stop this fire in my mouth. It is horrid! So, that's what I'm up to today. That and watching it rain all day. :O) |

| lol, Carol! I've never made my own soap, but I'd like to learn. I've heard that you can save up the remnants from commercial soap (dove, lava, etc) and melt them down to make big bars again. is that true? I'm also thinking pretty seriously about braiding a rug this winter. once the colder weather hits, I get pretty crafty. I guess, deep down, what I really like is making things, whatever they are. I like working with my hands and creating something out of raw materials. It doesn't matter if I'm painting, sewing, cooking, or whatever. Just as long as something is being made. Know what I mean? -Dan |
|
- Posted by just1morehosta 5 (My Page) on Sat, Sep 26, 09 at 19:38
| Yes Dan,i know exactly what you mean, when i was younger, i made my own bread, ground the flour, made butter, yogurt, canned all our food, sewed clothes for the kids, made all my own curtains, you name it, i probably tried it.ha ha Now i make Victorian lamp shades, all sewed by hand, beaded fringe or the antique long cotton fringe. I have a small hosta business, still do a small amount of canning, garden like a crazy lady, and now, help my daughter and her hubby make soap. I also take classe of what ever interests me. Oh, and i tried my hand at oil painting, and i was shocked out of my mind, i can do it.ha ha I tried making a braided rug, the farthest i got was getting all the rags cut and rolled.:0( Oh, and yes, you can melt down your left over bars of soap, that is not the kind we do though. If you wanna see some good soap, check out my daughters web site,www.consciousbath.com is it all right to say this?It is not my business. Has any one found out who they will be sending to yet? |

|
| Rainy Saturday here!! Just got home to the dog, who was nice enough to let himself out of the crate and then go to the bathroom on the carpet. At least he is nice enough to go in the same spot all the time. I was nice enough to kick him outside in the rain...we have a love/ hate relationship!! He really is a great dog...except for the bathroom thing! I have made goat milk soap and lotion. Goat milk has wonderful healing properties!! My MIL had scaly skin that even prescription lotion couldn't help. She tried the Goat Milk Lotion and it cleared right up!! Anyone watch football??? Penn State is currently losing!!! I was at the mall today getting ideas for my box, I can't wait to see who it is. Talk to you tomorrow..HAHA that's in 35 min!! |

Where's Alana???? I hope she's just staying offline due to rain storms. I'm anxious to see who I'll be sending to. I was hoping to know BEFORE I took all these plants to the swap. | Goodmorning everybody! Dan, cAROL you guys are making me want to go do some seriuos crafting. I too have a desire to to do all kinds of crafts. My biggest problem is that once I finish a project no matter how simple and beautiful it turns out, I just never do again. I have accomplished some great stuff and have made good money doing it but just can't seem to stay with it. I've made some gorgeous mosaic, antique lampshades, garden art, beautiful pillows,so on so on. cAROL can you share some pix of your shades? I'd love to see your work. email me. Dan I'd love to see quilts that you've made so I can show my dh, he can't boil water either. Alana, I still would like the instructions on the mirrors Becky I would love the receipe for soap. hehe (what do I think this is is a craft store?) LOL To the rest of you, happy Sunday Hugs, |

| cAROL, I would love to see a picture of your shades too. Becky, Could I get that laundry soap recipe too? I know if you add some borax to your regular laundry detergent it is suppose to help brighten your clothes. Dan, You sound pretty handy to have around. I can't wait to see who I will be sending to. Denise |
|
| I've added borax to the laundry for a long time now and haven't noticed too much of a difference except that it does help with deodorizing. I recently started using baking soda instead and it definitely helps with brightening the whites. We can't use bleach because of the well water, it yellows the whites pretty quickly. I recently bought a big batch of goats milk bar soap from a lady I met. She made them special with no fragrance since I'm allergic. I plan on packing one of them in with my box since they are great for sensitive skin and work great in getting the dirt out after digging in the garden. :O) Lisa, have fun at your swap today, careful in the rain. P.S. Aren't I always good? Happy Sunday! |

| Craftypeople here. I have tried several different craft activities throughout the years. My last one was knitting scarves. My daughter in law showed me how to do it and lent me her needles. I really liked the yarn color but I apparently picked up a stitch each time and the end of the scarf was wider than the beginning. I quietly handed the needles and all the yarn back to DIL. No thanks. I tend to start projects and never finish them such as the cross stitch receiving blanket I started when I was pregnant with my first child, 27 years ago. I can't even finish it for a grandchild as the pattern has faded away. I will stick to my jewelry making. It is fast and fun. I went to a plant swap yesterday which happened to be 10 minutes from where my son and dil live so the two of us attended. It was raining most of the time so damp, wet, and muddy but fun. My dil is just starting to get into gardening. We had such a good time and good food since in was a potluck. I really brought home the loot too. Afterwards, she had me help her plant about 125 bulbs around her gardens plus the plants we picked up for her at the swap. It was raining on and off. I can't imagine what her neighbors thought about two women out there in rain ponchos gardening in the pouring rain. It was alot of fun. We went shopping afterwards. I stayed to visit overnight and just got home about an hour ago. I have to take a nap and then go out and plant my new treasures. I even picked up three huge clumps of pampass grass which I have been resisting spending the money on. They are having another swap in May. Members told me as many as 100 were there this year and almost 4000 plants. When we moved out here to the country, we noticed our towels had a slightly musty smell and someone suggested using borax. Although it doesn't whiten, it does get rid of the odor. We use our pond as our water source. The water is cleaned up through a system we installed and it is check regularly. I love the water. Totally tasteless unlike the city water we use to experience. I couldn't drink that stuff and we had to buy bottled water. When we would run a tub of water, it smelled like rec center pool area. I could smell the clourine in the water. Nasty. Carol, I had a friend who at the age of 50, decided to try her hand at drawing using oil pastels. I have one her framed pieces. A coneflower with a butterfly resting on it. She does amazing work. I imagine many of us have inner creativity we do not know about. Hope everyone had a good weekend and I sure hope all is ok with Alana. It is weird we haven't heard from her. |

| I'm home from harvesting at the farm, and thought I'd take a break before doing my canning. I can't believe what I was sent home with! I brought home cabbages, onions, tomatoes, corn (cooked and frozen already!), about 5 pounds of dry beans (we're gonna have beans and cornbread at work on Tuesday!), hollyhock seeds (a paper grocery bag full), and we snacked on roasted pumpkin seeds while I was there. What a great Sunday morning! And now, I get to go can sauce from all those tomatoes. Nothing better than homemade tomato sauce, is there? I'm going to use garlic from my yard, and try my hand at making different recipes so it doesn't all taste the same all winter long. I love this time of year! -Dan p.s. Has anyone heard from Alana? |

|
| cAROL, the plant swap in May will have all those 1000's of plants. The one Iwent to was attended by about 20 people. It was under a shelter at a park and they had set up tables for shade, sun, house, etc. When we arrived, I then placed my plants on the designated table. After we all ate, we then proceeded to choose plants. First round, we all chose 1, second round 1 again, third 2, and then 4th, 4 and there may have been a 5th for 5, at that time, I was still on 4. LOL After that though, it was pick out of what was left. Dan, what a great lot of vegies. I so want to get a plot of our land amended so I can grow great stuff in huge quantities. I love making salsa but my tomatoes will just not grow. I tried pots this year but not much yield. I have to go put my plants in the ground. I ended up way too tired so took a good long nap. Just not sleeping well at night these days. Today it hit me. Have fun with your goodies Dan. AAAALLLLLAAAANNNNNAAAAAA, where are you!!!! |

| Ok, guys and gals. Here is the homemade laundry detergent recipe. I have not tried this yet and the lady I got it from said she adds extra borax and washing soda. She lives about 20 minutes from here and says she uses extra because the water around here is so crappy. And she's not kidding. I get water from a car wash (has a water dispenser) because I can't stand our well water. It's pretty sad when city water is an improvement over well water. Tracy, I've never heard of bleach turning your whites yellow with well water. I always thought mine turned yellow because of all the iron in our water. My mom had the best well water ever and her whites were always white. I'm starting to get worried about Alana too. I hope she has just been too busy to get online and nothing has happened. http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/laundrysoap.htm |

I will start sending the addresses in a few minutes and then I will go back and read all the posts. I just scanned them for now. I hope everyone is safe and well, especially our Georgia friends who have had it rough. Alana |

| cAROL, you did those? They are beautiful! I am so sorry that I have had interruptions this time around. I hope the rest of the swap will be less eventful. Swapus interruptus is very frustrating-I have enough trouble keeping up when everything is going smoothly. I have emailed everyone, (yes, even the two whose names I left off the list.) Please let me know if I have made any mistakes. I did not use GW mail, so if you don't see anything from me, check your spam folder. Let me know if anyone does not receive their identity. I will be posting a game on Tuesday for another trick, or treat. |

And if so, how did it go? I've been thinking about trying it out next summer. As for today, it's been a good day. 22 pints of spahetti sauce. 3 different recipes. 2 "helpful" cats. and 1 roommate who knew when it was time to stay out of the kitchen. lol! I'm tired, but man it feels great to know I've got it done! next weekend I'm canning salsa out of the rest of the tomatoes in the yard. And now I know who I'm sending to. hehehe Someone had better beware. Halloween is MY time to celebrate a holiday! Boo-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha!!! |

It has been sooo windy here. It is only 48 degrees. brrrr.. I never got to deadheading my Agastache, and I'm sure the wind has blown seed over my entire flower bed. I had so many seedlings this past spring, that I swore I would get those deadheaded this year. I'll be dreading next springs Agastache crop! cAROL, I love your shades, too. Very pretty! Dan, wow!, that is a lot of Spaghetti sauce! I also did spaghetti sauce this year(2 recipes), and chili sauce and salsa. No stewed tomatoes this year, and I know I'm going to miss that. We have all of our potatoes & onions dug. All that is left is the carrots and dh's beets. I hope everyone had a good week end!

Are you still jumping up and down? I'm off for a few days and Kenzie is with her dad, so I'm loving some quiet time. But I do have some things in the yard that need tending to. Only 70* here today and feels wonderful outside! |
|
| HELLOOOOOOOOO! cAROL! Goodness, it always seems like I am rushing these days! I love your lamps! They are absolutely beautiful. I can see how they take so long to make. All the detailing you put into them is so worth it. Simply beautiful! :O) Alana, winter might not be a 4 letter word but SNOW sure is! We have temps in the 50's right now. They dropped so suddenly! Last night was miserable. I didn't want to turn the furnace on but it was needed. I was freezing to death in bed last night and finally bit the bullet and flipped the switch. It is the last harbinger of winter sneaking up on us for me. Makes me want to jump right back in bed and pull the covers up till spring. Ok, gotta go, I have to bring princess to preschool now. Have a great day everyone. Oh, and Carmen, I will take a pic of the gruesome critter that Alana sent me sometime today to post for you. You're sure you want me to right? You better prepare yourself! Muah hahahahaha! |
|
| Good Day! Love that flashin skeleton Sassy! I hope you enjoy your quiet time! Wish I had 3 days of that!! Alana, still no email. I'll keep checkin! Although I don't really want to see temps in the 90's, I don't like to it drop down to the 30's! I like the sunny fall days where temps stay in the mid 60's. Perfect! | Carol - your lampshades are beautiful! You must have lots more patience than I do! Dan - Wow! Canning, cooking, sewing, quilting? My hubby can upholster furniture, and thus use a sewing machine, but no cooking, unless it's using a microwave. I wont even repeat what his thoughts on crafts or quilting are!! Huge round of applause for your parents in raising all their kids to be so talented! I tried square foot gardening last year and I love it. I went to Lowe's and purchased some 2x8x16 lumber and had hubby make me two raised beds. I mixed my own soil, using Miracle Grow for vegies, peat, compost, composted manure, and pearlite. Then divided the beds up into 12" squares and planted either the seeds or the plants themselves. There is a website ~ I think it is squarefootgardening.com ~ that gives you suggestions on how many of each vegie seed or plant you can put in each square. We had more tomatoes and okra than we have had in the past using different planting methods. I highly recommend it! Alana, your doggie is so cute! We don't get that white stuff down here very often, but we have had freak ice storms. Smitties, I have tried all kinds of crafts, too. I finally decided that I would stick to just gardening, scrapbooking, and sewing. I love garden art/junk, so that gives me an outlet to use all the rest of the craft supplies I have on hand. Which is good, considering the mountains of scrapbook paper and fabric I have! LOL! Tracy, I remember you said you love Folgers's coffee. Me too, at least until last Christmas when my hubby gave me a Cuisinart brew and serve coffee maker that has a coffee grinder. I've been having fun trying out all the whole beans that are out there. Kona coffee from Hawaii is really good. I ordered it online as a treat last year. Now that autumn is here, the Pumpkin Spice coffee creamer is in the stores. Yummy!! I missed the last contest, so I'm looking forward to the next one! Time to run two teenagers to bed, so I leave you with this poem I remember from elementary school days: ~ HALLOWEEN ~ By Harry Behn Tonight is the night Tonight is the night Tonight is the night |

| Good Morning all, Dan I am glad you didn't post that last night or I might have had nightmares!! I love all the Halloween poems. I am going to share them with my girl scout troop next meeting!! I was cleaning up a few flower beds..and collecting seeds..yesterday. I finally got my rosemary in a pot to bring inside. It is a pretty big plant so I asked my husband to carry it inside for me. He gave me the funniest look. He said you want me to do what?!?! I calmly asked him again to carry in the plant and he continued to look at me like I was crazy...I guess he just doesn't get it!! |

| Whats not to Get? It is beautiful, and i bet it smells heavenly.I brought in 6 plants a few days ago, hope i can winter them over, never having done it before. The way your rosemary had grown, it almost looks "Halloweenie" :0) cAROL |
|
| I thought that I might put ornaments on it at Christmas. I love Rosemary. I bought the plant on a whim this summer because I read that it would keep the cats away from your flower bed...HAHAHAHA. The cats did their business right next to it. I had no idea how good it smells (the rosemary) or how great it tastes (once again the rosemary)on potatoes. I have never wintered anything over either. I have a begonia that I am going to bring in also. Between bringing in plants and winter sowing I am going to be learning a lot this winter!! Heidi |

| Heidi, that rosemary looks delicious. I love rosemary. I know what you mean about the crazy look. I get those looks whenever I request help outside. Hehe. But he rarely says no. I have brought in about 20 plants so far and still have several brugs to bring in yet. Which will require his assistance. After bringing in my plants I was unpleasantly surprised by a hugh wolf spider. EEE..YUCK!! Those things give me the creeps. He was quickly removed from the house by my husband. Thank God he doesn't mind collecting them and putting them outside. This happens every fall. Denise |
|
| Ghould Morning everyone! Sorry I haven't posted the Giant Spider yet. I will do that today when I get back this afternoon! Promise! :O) We finally were getting around to some of the winter prep for the house yesterday. We hung a new door to the kitchen. The old door was very drafty and not very energy efficient. Now I don't have a terrible draft wafting over my feet when I walk past! Yippee! Dan, I popped in here for a minute last night and loved your poem of the man who wasn't there! I read it to my son who is studying poems in English and he was delighted with it. He wants to bring it in and recite it for his class! It was the hit of the household last night! OH! cAROL! You had me laughing out loud when I read your list of characters for Alana's game last nigh! OHMY Goodness! Hubby though I had lost my mind with all the laughter that was pouring out of me. :O) Alana! Awesome game last night! I wouldn't have gotten half of those, I close my eyes and change channels quickly for the scary parts of movies. I am a big CHICKEN and hate horror flicks! (shudder!) Heidi, Yep, folgers is the favorite around here these days. It used to be Maxwell House until it started tasting acidy to me. I have a small coffee grinder here that I use when I have a special brew fix. One of my favorites is a blend of pumpkin spice from the Coffee Beenery that used to be downtown. Oooooh it smells so good when it's brewing! The Cuisinart is such a nice machine! I had to choose between that and the de Longhi that I ended up getting. I was afraid of our hard well water being too rough on the cuisinart so went with this model instead. It has a slow brew feature that is great with specialty coffees. Yummo! Gotta go! Little girl needs to be scrubbed before school in a little while. I'll chat with all of you when I get back. Tracy |

| I wish I could take credit for that poem, it's one of my favorites. It's written by William Hughes Mearns. Here's what wikipedia has to say about it... Mearns is credited with the relatively well-known rhyme, composed in 1899 as a song for a play he had written, called The Psyco-ed. The play was performed in 1910 and the poem was first published as "Antigonish" in 1922. The poem also appears in the movie Identity starring John Cusack and Ray Liotta. Yesterday upon the stair It's kind of creepy and cool at the same time, don't you think? Heidi, the next time you bake chicken, rub some of that rosemary on it and leave a sprig on top while baking. That'll change some tunes around your house. My roommate cooks chicken like that, and there are never any leftovers when he does. Lol, even my two cats like it! |

| Whew! Oh the joy of high humidity and overcast skies. :) Finally came inside for something to drink after pulling weeds that have sprung up all over the yard from the recent rains. I can't believe how natural rainfall has caused all of my plants to more than double in growth! I have a gazillion four o'clocks, so if anyone wants some seeds, I have plenty!! Also found lots of chili piquins that were planted about the yard, courtesy of either the birds or the squirrels. Need any of those seeds, let me know!! Tracy, I *love* pumpkin spice flavored coffee! I received several Starbucks cards last Christmas and I treated my self several times until they stopped carrying it. I love cinnamon, too, so I was glad to find cinnamon flavored creamer - Caribbean cinnamon cream, at the stores last week. For those of you bringing in plants now (I don't have to do this until sometime in late Nov. or early Dec.), where are you putting them? We have at least three or four months of "it looks like a jungle in here!" due to someone that has too many plants to bring in .....wonder who that is.... :) Cooled off and rehydrated and ready to head back outside to plant the mums, asters, bluebonnets and flowering kale I bought at the nursery. First I have to stop and clean up the mud tracked in by one of the dogs. We have one dog that hates to get her paws dirty and one that doesn't care how dirty her paws get. I'll check back in later to see if another game has been posted. ~Kathy The Haunted House There's a house upon the hilltop

| Kathy I am glad you got a drink...I hate humidity! My weather is cool enough for a jacket, but if I am working I get hot!! What are chili piquins?? Gonna have to google that one. I am setting my plants around the house in just about every room!! I am quickly running out of room, and I hope that everything is going to get enough light. Also my little guy loves to dig. He came running into the kitchen the other day with brown all over the face...looked like chocolate. Nope it was dirt from my Wandering Jew. That poor, poor plant. Still hasn't recovered!! I love pumpkin spice and cinnamon. I am actually into iced coffee, but in the winter it has to be hot!! Dan I will try the rosemary and chicken. Hope everyone is having a great day!!! |

| LOL! Love those jokes! Heidi, hope you googled chili piquin. You'll find that it is a small pea sized !!HOT!! pepper. They are red when they are ripe, green when they aren't ripe. They are supposed to be 6-7 times hotter than jalapenos, and I believe it. You have to wear gloves to pick them, because the acid or what ever it is, gets into your skin and if you rub your eyes, or even lick that yummy bbq sauce off your fingers hours later, oh man does it hurt!! When I was a little kid - maybe 5 years old or so, one of the neighbor boys told me that the chili pequin plant growing in my mom's garden was......get this..... An M&M PLANT!! He told me those were red and green M&M's and to pick a bunch of them and eat them. Well, that's what I did and I'll never forget it! My mouth hurt so bad and at the time, no one knew to drink milk to "put out the fire", so my mom kept giving me water and I kept screaming. Needless to say, neighbor kid got a sound thrashing by his mom. That's the only funny thing about it! Lots of people use them for salsa and chili dishes. I used to pick them for a couple of guys at work who just loved them. Even dug up the plant for one of the guys when I moved from my old house. They are all over the yard and I honestly don't think you can kill them, unless it is by overwatering. ~Kathy |
|
| I googled them...They are so cute. Its hard to believe that they would be so hot. I would love to grow them, but my 3 year old eats everything. Funny story...This summer he kept eating our green grapes. He even convinced my in-laws to try some (they quickly spit them out)!! I kept telling him the grapes have to be purple. Well when the grapes finally turned purple he said they were yuck and wouldn't touch a single one...go figure. I hope I am not repeating any of these... What do you get when you cross a vampire and a snowman? Do zombies eat popcorn with their fingers? What would a monster's psychiatrist be called? Off to music class with the kids. I will check in later tonight!! |

| Wow where is everyone??? This place is dead!! cAROL I like your funny story!! Any one ever go seed swiping??? I stopped at my local park to see what was growing. I got lots of mystery seeds!!! More for the experiment of collecting viable seeds, then growing specific seeds. My brother (age 7)was with and kept asking me are we allowed to be doing this??? I ignored his question and asked if he found any more of those brown, round seeds ;oP I will check in later to see if anyone has risen from the dead. |

| Hey there kiddos, sorry I've been MIA. I did a bunch of shopping for my fellow ghoul. Here's what I plan on doing when it hits the mail on Monday: I will be putting a silly note in there from my secret identity along with a hint to who I really am. I figure that the person will definitely be able to figure out who I am by the clues that I leave to my ID. How's that for a little suspense? cAROL, do what would be fun for you. Make it silly and it will be a hit! Denise! That is an awesome box that you got. I think it is safe to say that your sender was Lisa. Awesome! All right, time for me to hit the hay. Ghould Night! | Hi y'all, Tracy,Heidi,Annie,cAROL,Alana and Mr. Dan the man! I hate that some of you are feeling crudy,Oh the winter. I'm waiting and lurking to see if my ghoulish monster will say somthing about itself that would help me fill it's box. I'm having a sicko weekend, I was driving home about 7:30 yesterday and just as I came around this huge lake I fell asleep at the wheel and and crashed into someones huge brick mail box and trashed their yard aaaand trashed out my beautiful van which I always try to park blocks away from everybody so I don't get any dings. WeLLLL I trashed the passenger side real good. I was ok but did I feel sick to my stomach. Can you imagine falling asleep at wheel in heavy trafic??? I was so lucky that no one got hurt. I will be sending my box on Monday To my ghoulish secret friend. Look for your box to reach you about Wednesday. HAHAHA everybody will be checking their mail, including me LOts of hugs and smiles |
|
| Sorry to see some of you are suffering various ailments. So far, so good at my house but it is scary knowing how much crud is going around. I am glad my kids are little anymore. Carmen, I am so glad you are ok. How frightening was that to wake up to???? Someone was looking out over you. It is cold, damp, and windy here. Not gardening weather at all. I had hoped to get out to harvest seeds too. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit warmer but if this wind doesn't quit, I won't be able to try and get seeds cause they will blow away. Chances are the wind has already thrown some around as it is. |

| Oh Carmen,That is just terriable news, you were so lucky, you, and no one else got hurt. And to cuunch up your van, ouch, i feel for you.You must have been very tired, were you close to home? Glad you were not hurt. I know what you mean,I had a hard time finding something for my ghoulish monster too,no clues at all. So sorry every one is not felling well, school and children do = sick, all my grandchildren have had the crud. |

| I will be mailing out my box on Monday to my ghoulish friend. I finally got it painted today, and after it dries out I'll be filling it up tomorrow. No wine though. I've been too scared to drive feeling this woozy and sleepy, so I wasn't able to go out and get it. I woke up this afternoon to find both cats under the covers with me. They make great babysitters! |
