| I have been having fun getting my cards going and I just realized I never posted my list! I have just started planting tropical fruits and plants so any seeds would be great. I also have started doing gourd art so any gourd seeds other than birdhouse. I grow food for several families as I have the space so any edibles would be fun. I love unusual vegetables and herbs. I teach a weekly cooking class when the friends and relatives pick up their produce to encourage organic and healthy eating, so of course I would love any organic and heirloom varieties. I live in San Diego county and garden year round so I go through a lot of seeds! Thanks! Diana |

| For dan_the_mailman Please share your expertise. Is there a way to send a small amount of any kind of seed in a regular envelope? Are there some seeds that do not require special attention or the protection of a bubble envelope? I am trying to keep postage on individual envelopes to a minimum so I can send more. If this information has been posted I completely missed it. Thanks. Margaret |
|
| I would like to join, this is my 2nd year gardening So I don't have a lot of varity but do have some peoples wishes :) I will post my list soon. |

- Posted by dan_the_mailman Michigan (My Page) on Thu, Nov 4, 10 at 7:12
| Margaret, if the seeds are no larger than poppy seeds, I think it would be okay to send them inside a card in a regular envelope. However, if they are any larger, I would definitely recommend using some sort of cushion, such as a bubble envelope. And ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, when sending seeds, print out the words "Hand Stamp Please - Contains Seeds". This not only keeps your envelope out of the machines (hopefully) but lets anyone who handles the envelopes know what the rattles might be. There's nothing scarier than handling a piece of mail which makes strange noises, you never know what it could be. I've been involved in a pipe-bomb scare (turned out to be nothing but it sure looked suspicious) and other types too, and they're not fun to go through. So, take into account the size of your seeds, and imagine the worst case scenario about how they may be handled. We try to be as careful as we can, but it helps us to get the mail through when the sender has thought it through and let us know what's in the envelope. Clear as mud? |
|
- Posted by molly_and_me 9 (My Page) on Thu, Nov 4, 10 at 8:20
| Thanks, Dan, You answer is very clear. I didn't know that I sould put a note on the outside stating there are seeds inside. Just the information I was looking for. When in doubt ask an expert! |

| From Mrs. Claus’ cookie elves __ molly_and_me A sweet treat to try while you’re addressing cards Super easy___ sinfully delicious___ great to make with kids or grandkids Peanut Butter Cups Put a cupcake liner in each well of the cupcake pan. Place a peanut butter cup on top of each cookie while they are still hot. Push down until the top of the peanut butter cup is about level with the top of the cookie. Now this part gets a little tricky and some will say I am crazy but….. I take the tip of a knife and smooth the crinkles out of the edges of the peanut butter cups while they are still warm. I know …. but it is something I feel the need to do! My granddaughter is allergic to peanuts so now I use sugar cooked dough and chocolate kisses. Invert the kiss so the flat part is on top. Enjoy and keep addressing those cards! Margaret |

| I am brand new to gardenweb today! My daughter (redthreaddiy) told me about this swap and suggested that I join in. While she is a fan of the flowers, I am a fan of the vegetables! I see several wishes that I can fulfill. How exciting! I make salsa each year so I always grow tomatoes. Here's my wish list! I would like the names of the seeds so when I collect seeds from the plants I know what to label them. If that isn't possible, I will grow the seeds anyways and will be happy with anything I get! Asparagus I truly can't think of anything else! I know I would be happy with whatever you send - I have 2 cottage gardens half hour away from my house and a huge garden at my house. Lots of growing space! I already have the cards and am preparing the list of people that I'm sending to. Can't wait to give people surprises! Merry Christmas! |

| Hi Kym ! and everyone ! Its been a beautiful sunny and chilly Saturday here in Maryland, I stayed in my jammies all day, had a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup simmering on the stove and had so much fun going thru my seeds to see what I have to share with everyone , packed up a bunch of them too ;-) I think I shall always call it seed therapy from now on cause it sure made me feel good today ... and I found some of my glitter pens leftover from last year too so I could start on a few cards too ! YAY ! being an elf is so much fun ! PS they mentioned the S*** word on the DC weather forecast too, luckily its all to the west of us in the Shenandoah Valley/Mtns ;-) ssshhh .... not ready for that yet !! |

| I can't remember who suggested it, but using the "find" function just made looking through these lists a snap! Hit ctrl/f, and type in a search word, and your computer will do the work for you! I've got 26 people I can play Santa for so far, which is very cool! Ho! Ho! Ho! And, on that note, I have room for 2 more people to send some larkspur to, and 5 more trades of kettle and bushel gourds I'd like to find a home for. So we don't clutter the swap with a bunch of "me toos" and "I want somes", drop me an e-mail and I'll add you to my list, okay? Everyone have a great week! |

A bit of a confession here : ) Even though I have a list going of all of the participants, and the wishes that I can fill for each one, I haven't actually started packaging up the seeds, and filling out the cards yet, so this prize is the perfect thing to get me in the Christmas spririt! Thank you for your generosity, Dan!!! I can't wait to listen to it! Bonnie |

| Yes - the find feature is VERY helpful!!! :D May I also suggest scrapbooking adhesive tape to get your seed packets together - it took me FOREVER to use a glue stick, but with the roll on adhesive, it's permanent and dries instantly. Yay! |
|
| Kym, I hope your computer cord isn't firing away any more. Did you get it fixed/replaced? Blessings, |

| Ladies, I'm glad your CDs arrived safe and sound! I've been hitting the Christmas music from time to time lately, and will be definitely listening to it when I start sorting my seeds into their envelopes! It just puts you in the mood, doesn't it? LOL! Rose, a kettle gourd is kind of pear-shaped, and can get pretty big. I haven't grown one yet, but I'm anxious to try. I received the seeds for the kettle and bushel gourds from a great trader who uses her gourds in her crafts. Have a good week everyone! |
|
| I am so glad you like my Find feature! I use it all the time when searching for a pack of seeds I want to give away :) Vina, you will send Kym a list of screen names you are sending to. This way she can make sure everyone gets a few cards. She will send us an address list and we send our own cards directly to the person. I hope this helps you... Kym, I would like to volunteer to send out cards to people that have not gotten a lot of cards. Dan those larkspur sound nice. I did not collect any from mine this year. Kind of sad because they were some of my best performers before. Karen |

| Hi everyone !! Thankfully the computer cord has been fixed ..and I started answering emails tonite :) Yes, everyone needs to send me a list of WHOM they are sending to, as I do alot of work behind the scenes trying to make sure everyone recieves !! Karendee thanks so much for the offer, I shall send you a " need help list" once the 1st rolls around and I have the lists :) flowergirl, you are correct...Mrs Seedy Claus never posts a wish list, I always find a way to ask for everyone to send a card in my "honor", last year it was to a friend that lost her daughter at the age of 6 to Brain cancer, and it brightened up their first year a bit to know so many people cared ! Iris I am soo glad that the S*** passed you !! Sounds like a nice way to spend the day..playing with seeds :) I had alot of seed therapy and it is just the best !! Hate to say it, but we had a nite of freezing rain and woke to snow...yep, i said that nasty 4 letter word ! I will finish recording addresses and post an updated ELF LIST tomorrow evening. HAPPY SEED PACKING !!!!!! ( Turn on the Chistmas music while ya sort ) |
|
| Hey all: It has been so long since I've been able to be a part of a swap, but I dearly loved this one! I am starting over in my garden. I am an heirloom fan, so nearly any heirloom that grows in a cold climate will make me smile!! |
|
| I am happy to write that the snow we got last week didn't last long! Yesterday and today its benn sunny (but cold) out which is nice! Kym, Glad your computer cord is fixed!! Randi |

| Hello everyone...it has been a long time since I came to visit here on GW. Many changes have happened in my life that took me away from my gardens. My husband became very ill in Jan 09 and passed away in June 09. With trying to keep the house up, yard work and working lots of overtime to keep a roof over my head, my gardens went to the wayside. Fate has brought a good friend back into my life who needed a place to live and now I have someone to share the expenses and work with. She also loves to garden as well...bonus! So I would like to get back to my gardens and what a great time to start and I could not find a better group of people to get back in touch with. I have lots of older seeds that I have kept as well preserved as possible to share and look forward to having some fun this Christmas. Just a quick note about me...some may remember me...I am (now) a 48 year old widow, would have been married 28 years this month. I am an RN, formerly in the ICU. Unfortunately, I developed rheumatoid arthritis and could not work in such a physically stressful environment. I now work with the elderly and LOVE IT. I have a wonderful granddaughter Jordan who shares a lot of my passion of gardening. I am looking forward to getting reintroduced to my friends here on GW! Kim |

| yea iu started my packs with glue (thin drys fast with elmers lil tricky till you know the process even then can be tricky) but now im using tape for them just cause its quick enough for me i STILL have to finish going thru the lists make shure i have enough of everything (didnt get to the lists on this page yet) and print up the addy tags with the names for everyones seeds (i am dooing that on my outher computer because it this one dosent have the program nor does it have the printer in it 24/7 like that one does) THEN lol i need to start packaging everyones seeds into the x-mas seed packs and tag them all (the plus is i think wqith 8 pack designs theres enough variety but it also means noone will get more then 8 different seeds from me) so ill have a bit of scrambling to do at the end but lol thats not too huge a suprise to me tho our significant lack of space in this house may hinder some plesantaries |

| Karen! Some of those larkspur are going to find their way into your stocking...ho, ho, ho! I'm sitting here mentally coasting after an 11-hour day at the post office. Tis the season! I came home to find a nice hot dinner waiting for me, and one of my customers gifted me with an excellent reisling, which I am now enjoying. I don't think there's anything better for relaxing than some dark chocolate, sharp cheddar cheese, and a chilled glass of reisling! Can I get an "aaaahhhhhh"? Thursday there will be no mail delivery, so I'm going to spend at least part of that day playing with seeds and mixing them up for the holiday cocktail seed swap I'm hosting. I'm thinking that would be a good day to do some Christmas cards too, don't you think? Everyone have yourself a great week, I shall return! -Santa Dan |
|
| I'm late, I'm late for a very important date! I think I over-thought selecting my favorite flowers for my list. There were so many and I couldn't decide. Here it is finally: Rudbeckia In the spirit of the holidays, I was thinking of all the things that makes Christmas special. For me, it's snow. I can still remember the first time I saw snow and how it made me feel. I felt like a kid lost in a wonderland. It was magical, especially since I spend the first 11 years of my life living on a snow-less island. Sometimes, my mind wonders back to the snowless Christmas times, the masquerades, and awaiting the arrival of Father Christmas as we loving refer to Santa Claus. I can remember my aunt making lots and lots of Black cake to send away to relatives in the US and the UK. The Black cake is really a rum cake. One whiff and you could become drunk, lol it's that potent, but it's also delcious. I love it. What's your most favorite Christmas memory? What does Christmas make you think about? What makes Christmas special for you? Can't wait to hear what's special for you guys at Christmas time. |

| I know what I want for Christmas... a magnifier! Some of the seeds I'm trying to pick out are SO TEENY! Ahhh!! Anyways, I wanted to share a link. Seed packet templates! I'm sure many of you already know about it, but just for those who don't, it's pretty neat! It's always nice to receive as much information on the seeds you're sending as possible. It's been 4 days straight for me, separating the seed from the chaff and getting them into their packets. It's super fun, but also getting tiring! But I'm so excited to send these out to spread some holiday cheer! Yay! |

I can't wait to send out surprises and share of of my special stash. Thank you SO much for organizing this. Does santa and the elves have any secial requests? My wish list: |

| Redthreaddiy thanks for the seed packet templates! I will be using them. I hope everyone doesn't just use our exchange page wish list. I put the stuff I was really hoping for on the first thread (SSSS page 1). I thought that was the way it was supposed to be and that you could have more stuff on your trade page. It probably to late to change my exchange page now. I was hoping to paint all my cards but have been ill so Im not sure about that one. I do have time still so hopefully! It is so fun to personalize the little gifts. |

| Oops.. sorry flwrs4ever... I'm guessing my recent message to you gave you headaches. I can resend it the right way if you want! Keiki - glad you like the link! They're cool because you can add in all the info right on your computer to print out. I feel that it's much easier that way instead of writing everything in after printing. |
|
| Thanks Dan!! I loved Larkspur. It grew so well for me. Karen |
|
| Kim, it's SO nice to see you back trading. You've been in my thoughts and prayers many times over the last year. I've wondered how you were doing. Thanks so much for the awesome update! I can't tell you. I was so happy to see your post that I screamed, "Yea! Kim's back!". :-D Blessings, |

| Keiki...people are going by the WISH LISTS ..but can also look at your exchange page to add a few more items you may be lookin for, or maybe they dont have a wish but they DO have something on your exchange page. readthreaddiy...that comment wasnt directed at you ! It was just to ask people to send that way, so when I start getting 15 emails at once, I can keep up :) This info goes out each year..to try and keep me sane ! Have a great weekend, everyone ! Are you preparing for Thanksgiving ? What are your plans ?? |

| I'll post my wish list later tomorrow or the day after but one question first. Are we sending seed packets or can we send ziplock bags with seeds and information about the seeds? |
|
- Posted by aphroditelaughs Puget Sound (My Page) on Sat, Nov 13, 10 at 14:14
| Frostythecat, In my experience, you can send seeds in almost anything (though including some information is really appreciated!) I have received seeds in little envelopes made from the pages of seed catalogs, construction paper, coffee filters, etc, as well as ziplocks and coin envelopes. The variety is fun, and it is so interesting to see how different people store and share their seeds. Ellie |

| Hello fellow plant-a-holics! First I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It has been a VERY rough year here. My dad almost died in September and now lives with us due to lack of insurance and funds to put him elsewhere. About a month or so ago a storm with 1-inch hail destroyed my greenhouse, and needless to say, I lost most of my tropical plants. My wish list is short and sweet - anything is fine. I have lots of herbs and vegetables though, so unless they are unusual, I prefer not to receive those. To everyone I have traded with before, I hope to be back in the forums by spring! Thank you Kym for encouraging me to post this year. It took a while, but I finally made it over here! Again, I hope everyone has a very happy holiday season! Sheri Ann |

| Thanks to red threaddiy I spent hours printing, cutting and glueing Christmas seed envelopes. LOL it was actually kinda fun. Sheri Ann sorry to hear about your dad and troubles. I agree it has been a rough year, I lost my brother, just found out another has cancer and have been quite ill myself. If you contact me after it warms up maybe I can help you replace a few tropicals. |

| Hi Kym! Since I won the first game that Dan posted, I wanted to be sure I was eligible before I signed up for the bingo game. Just let me know. I've been debating using store bought cards this year, as I am very busy trying to finish up canning, and freezing of this year's harvest, plus all of the Thanksgiving activities. So in the end I left it up to the kids. They all said they would help again this year (yeah, free labor, LOL), so today I picked up some art supplies. They are out of school all next week, so hopefully we'll have them ready to mail out on time. Bonnie |
