The kids just finished up carving their pumpkins. I'm almost done making a cake that I haven't done in a WHILE!!! It's a Dark Chocolate Cake with White chocolate buttercream & chocolate ganache!!So good, but lots of steps involved. I got it from the Chocolatier magazine,way back when in 1998! It does NOT look pretty. Guess I can tell everyone it's possessed with it being halloween & all LOL!!!I'm out of practice on the fancy made from scratch cakes.

I am doing a Halloween party for my daughter and 14 of her friends. Decorated the basement last weekend which was good cause I came down sick so energy level is low.

Along with the eyeballs, I am doing Dirt cake, barbecued bat(chicken) wings, witches fingers w/bat guts, (carrots with almond slices on the tips to look like fingernails and ranch dip colored green with food coloring), and deviled eyes, (eggs). I will be serving green slime punch as well. Should be good eating and it is up to them to have the fun.

Since we live out of the city, we don't get trick or treaters. I used to love to decorate when we were in town so planning and decorating has been a lot of fun. Our house used to be the one everyone was a bit leary to approach with all the goblins and such plus the scary noises we provided.

Raining here today. Again. Looks like the rest of the bulb planting will have to wait. That's okay, as I have to drive my son back to school tonight. Our doctor insisted I go get him and that he get his H1N1 flu shot while he had a few doses left. Did you guys all get your teenaged and older kids vaccinated? I dragged all my sons and my daughter-in-law in yesterday. Better safe, etc. . .

Hope everyone had a great halloween! We went to our friends house so the kids could trick or treat with her grandson.When that was done,the grown-ups played Rock Band.We had a blast!!! I don't do real well in front of groups, friends or not! Took me awhile to finally sing some songs,but after the first one is was fun(other than the sweaty palms!)

The party foods went great. April, funny you should ask. I did have a floating hand in the punch. My dil has a mold. I made that punch and had to make another batch ten minutes later. The bat wings went so quick, my husband ran out for pizzas. I love that the kids were able to come over and have fun and stay away from drugs and alchohol that some teenagers feel are necessary to have a good time.

Jeanne, I will be watching for the post you will be doing. I was hoping there would be an ornament swap.

Hope everyone has a healthy week. If you have the opportunity to get those flu shots, do it. It is too late for this family. I think there is too much hype about it and people are panicking when they do get it but if you can be spared, go for it. It just seems to last for a long time.

Good to hear everyone had a happy Halloween. I did too. We had the dress up at work(pics on other thread,) and at home the kids all got scared coming to our house. We have luminaries leading the way up to the porch, regular string lights of ghosts and jack-o-lanterns around the porch, a strobe light, scary sounds going, and a fog machine going off when the kids come. Lol, it is a bit much.
I planted a bunch of bulbs today. It was pretty nice out for the beginning of Nov. Too bad the sun goes down so fast. I always want to keep going. Ok, got to go make dinner,

I did the floating hand in the punch for a party once too. I used rubber gloves (without the yucky powder)for molds. That way I could have about 5 extra in the freezer all ready when the others melted. And I didn't use water, but another juice...they looked like bloody hands. It was pretty cool.

Remy, it is weird to see that sun go down so early. By the time it warms up enough to get outside, the sun starts to go down. I still have several perennials hanging around. I am keeping my eye on them for seeds. There are some new things I am hoping to harvest from.

I haven't heard from Scarlett since Saturday but she may be busy with other things. I THINK we have a seed swap to do!

Mellen-How is your back these days? I went to physical therapy today with mine. The therapist showed me some exercises I could do that might help the pain in my back and also down my leg. I have a sitting job so she said DO NOT sit for longer than 15-20 minutes without getting up and walking around. Wow I'm going to get alot done doing that all day. I hope I have a job later to pay for this therapy.

WELCOME NEW FOLKS! It's great to see so many energetic and enthusiastic new folks on our RR thread. I was just bouncing around in the RR before I came back here and happened upon the "Caution" posting (where I see a lot of you have posted, as well). . . What Drama!! Reading some of those posts makes me wonder about some of those people and what they are about!

I would like to say that I've always felt very safe on OBF, and if there has ever been any drama, I had no idea. Thanks to our terrific hostesses/hosts! Well done!

dottie, i feel the same way. on those rare occasions when i ventured outside our doors, i haven't had the best of luck. go figure.

i love the theme of the swap, but i too got lost on trying to figure out some of the letters. the only ones i could come up with were a few different things for the letter e, but then it was really only two echinacea and elephant ears.

great going melinda on that game. dang, you were quick.

halloween here was rainy most of the day, then it let up for just about 2 hours, giving enough time for the kids to get out around 5 or so, but then a terrible downpour a little after 7 and kept up most of the night. my grandbabe was a gorgous princess....well, is a gorgeous princess in life, but that night she wore a tiara so it was official!!! LOL

i'm still adjusting to my new "eyes". still a little throbbing, but it's wonderful to see the clock, the television, life in front of me. i'm so amazed at medical technology.

time to get off...need to finish packing - going to michigan for the remainder of the week.

What a great idea for a dish garden! I can see why you won. I love seeing all the kiddies dressed up.

Because someone asked, the Rules for Members are:
~New members must send their box first. It must be with DC(delivery confirmation). (All members use DC, not just new ones.) I think it is for 3 months you must send first. Your partner will not mail to you until you have mailed yours.
~When you get your box of course post what you received.
~All members can not join in the following months swap if they have not completed the month before. Exceptions are allowed if swap partners have agreed to a later send date.
~Everyone should try and stop by to say if you are in or out for the upcoming month's swap so you do not leave the hostess hanging or trying to track you down.
~Stop by and post what is going on or just say hi even if you are not in the current swap : )

My mother in law keeps wanting to sign my daughter (shes 5) up for dance lessons. So she can jump in a tu-tu...
I signed her up for Ju-jits-u. So she will be able to handle herself if need be. Unfortunatley, this is the world we are coming too. I don't ever want her to feel like she's not in control...or someone else has the upper hand. It scares me. Princesses wearing karate robes. But as long as she keeps the tiara, we're good!

I agree that women (young ladies, especially!) need to be able to defend themselves. I remember our high school giving self-defense classes for the girls. I think every high school should offer that.

I cannot believe we are already a week into November! Yikes! Where did the year go??

I found out that if I switch Taylor to Karate, then she can do dance and karate. So she gets the tu-tu after all...YEAH **happy dance**:0)...the problem that we had was that both were scheduled at about the same time...it was either jujitsu or dance (not both)...a couple after school activities should be okay? I just don't want to be one of those parents that has something scheduled for every minute of the whole week...that would make me crazy!!!!!! kids need a chance to just "breathe" and be kids.

Oh! and I'm still working on E & V...this is harder than I thought it would be. Whoever is getting my box....it won't have ALOT of plant"y" stuff in it (like seeds)...some...but different things too. Hope thats okay?

And I found some cute ornaments (for Dec.). But haven't bought any yet. I want to wait and see who I'm paired with...but they are cute!!!!

Today's weather was gorgeous here, too, Laura! Upper 70's, sunny, breezy. We took the kiddos to a creek nearby and they caught toads, crawdaddys & minnows. They had lots of fun....until daddy found a leach! BLECH!!!!! So we decided that was enough playing in the water for today. LOL

My Dawgs had a great game. Of course, they were playing Tennessee Tech, so there would be more to report if they HADN'T won. :(

I only have the B13 so far. I love Bingo, but I could probably count on one hand the times I have ever won though. :P

Don't stress on the box, Treasa; we're in similar zones, so anything you grow should translate well here. Just starting my box, too, as I wanted to wait to see who I'd be sending to before choosing my items.

I'm already reading Spring seed and plant catalogs. Seems a little early, but last year I ran into things being out of stock because I waited too long. (And you think it's too early for Christmas, Laura ?!)

I am in Corbin, Kentucky for the weekend so won't be able to keep check once we leave the hotel. Our second oldest son moved to South Carolina a couple of months ago. We met him here to celebrate his birthday. It is a six hour drive for each of us rather than us spending twelve hours in the car to get to S. C. which you couldn't do in a weekend anyway.

The weather was absolutely perfect yesterday. It was 75 degrees. We went to visit Cumberland Falls and wow is that a pretty area.

I have my box ready and if I can get home early enough today, will tape it up and mail it after work tomorrow. If not then, Tuesday morning.

Yesterday was beautiful here. Cleaned out the pond, put the waterfall pump stuff away. You have to actually get in the water to do that...and I have been waiting for a half way decent day. Boy!!! Is that water cold!!!! I even spotted one of the fish. Sherbert. He/she is the only one I've seen. My daughter named him, because he's orange and white. I hope the others are okay and not heron bait. They are just too expensive to replace.

Shirley, I don't remember-are you seeing a pain Dr.? How long has your pain been going on? You could always have a shot in your lower back if they will do that. The first couple of times the pain clinic Dr. did that for me, it worked very well. I've been thinking of you. My back is doing great although I am on huge amounts of painkillers. But, they don't make me sleepy, groggy, etc. I seem to be on the right regimen.

Shirley, ME is right. The shots in the back are an instant miracle - at least they were for me when I had such bad spasm I couldn't stand up straight a few months ago. I do hope you feel better soon. There's not much worse than having a part of your body refusing to cooperate when you have so much you want to do.

I was looking at the info sheets and saw that she lives in Weedsport, NY. My husband's family is from there, and some extended family still lives there. Christan, if you try to post twice in a row, the thread won't let you. So, if you forget to say something, or need to make a revision, a little trick I've used is to add a letter, or remove one from the title; i.e. instead of "bountiful harvest", delete or change a letter, as in "bountiful harvist". See? Then it will let you post a second time.

Shirley, my shot-in-the-back experience was a one-time thing. Never had it before and hope to never need it again . . . but it was WAY better to have seven shots in the lumbar region than to carry on the way I had been for over a week. No contest. Hope yours never gets bad enough to need shots, but it's good to know they exist and will fix you RIGHT NOW if you ever do.

Christan, where do they live???? Weedsport is extremely small...I might know them! How cool!!

My mother in law had a spine blocker in her back. She gets it every 6 months. If she didn't get it she would have to have surgery. She was once laid out on her couch for 8 months and couldn't walk without a walker anywhere. Not even to the potty. At the time she was only 55, I felt so bad for her. That was a few years ago. Now she gets that shot and feels great, she walks every morning, works all day...she only takes a couple of Aleve every now and then. In her case the shot was a miracle worker.

Have a super Monday...going to be 73 here today!!! I am so excited!!
