As return host, this tomato seed swap is now open.

Deadline for joining, and my receiving your seeds is November 30th.

It'll likely take me all of December to mail everything back.

I'll post guidelines in a day or two. To contact me for my mailing address, email me. (emails routed through Gardenweb sometimes don't go through)

Gary

I'm in. I've been waiting for this swap all year.

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Guidelines for the swap...

MAILING - Bubble/padded mailers only. If using a self-sticking address label, make sure it will not fall off. (Last year one came very close)

POSTAGE - U.S. rate is 2.07, cash (2.00 is fine) or stamps, only. It's best to put this in the mailer first, as it's easy to forget. I know, firsthand. :(

WISH LIST/ SENDING IN LIST - First, a legible return address, and contact info (email, etc...). Next, up to ten wish list varieties, in alphabetical order, numbered 1 to 10 as to most wanted (#1), to least wanted (#10).

The sending in list does not need to be in alphabetical order, but please list number of packs if sending in more than one of a variety.

I'll be off-line until about Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll try to list the rest of the guidelines, then.

Gary

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

I have to go through my seeds but I am in and Thank You

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Dave,

The guidelines are going to be flexible. The same as last year, with additions. If you're not up for the additions (which I'll try to post on Wednesday), just use last years guidelines (which will also be posted).

Gary

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

SEED PACKS - Seed no more than three years old, 5 to 10 seeds per pack, unless it is a posted variety on the upcoming wish list. If you have more than 10 seeds to spare of seed that is more than three years old (wish list varieties), please do so.

Each pack labeled with the variety name and harvest or purchase year. Example... Black Cherry 2013

Emailing me your #1 wish list variety (and 3 alternates) will get the wish list up and running.

The rest of the guidelines, hopefully, on Wednesday.

Gary

RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

I had many positive responses last year about all of the mystery tomato varieties that people received. So, here are the OPTIONAL guidelines for getting even more mystery varieties this year...

There will be different categories of tomatoes, so you will know the type, but not the actual varieties, that you would receive.

The categories...

Beefsteak
Heart
Cherry/Grape
Dwarf/Determinate
Black
Blue (stable and non-stable)
Green
Red
Pink
Yellow/Gold/Orange/White/Bi-color
Striped
Early (~55 DTM or less)
Eastern European
Italian
Paste/Canner
Hot weather
Cool weather
Sweet
Non-sweet
Giant (2 1/2 pound potential)
Novelty ( Stick, Variegated, T4, etc...)
Experimental (any non-stable tomato, F2's, etc...except Blues)

IMPORTANT - You must send in 10 packs (5-10 seeds each) of ONE variety in that category to join that category. There will be 10 people in a group for a category. The 10 people will each get back 9 different varieties for that category. Also, please send one short description, not 10, of that variety along with the 10 seed packs.

Example...

Elgin Pink, 2013 - Ind., PL, pink, 1 lb+, beefsteak, extremely sweet.

This tomato could go into the Beefsteak, Pink, or Sweet categories. (because it's the sweetest pink beefsteak I've ever trialed, I'm puting it in the sweet category)

You can join as many categories as you'd like. Please ask if you have any questions.

I'll likely start posting the #1 Wish List next week.

Gary

Sounds like a unique and fun swap! I'd like to join too.

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Please email me for my mailing address and your #1 wish list (and 3 alternate) tomato varieties, The quicker I get your #1's, the quicker I can post them, and the better the chance someone sees them, and sends them into the swap.

Also, other seed (veggie/fruit/flower, etc...) is welcome as donated bonuses. I'll be donating beans, and maybe other things. When packages arrive, I'll post these non-tomato seeds on a first request gets them basis.

I'll be off-line until about Monday

Gary

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Im in! I dont have many varieties of tomatoes (yet). Can I submit multiple packets of each of the few varieties that I have?

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

"I don't have many varieties of tomatoes (yet)."

We're going to fix that! :)

You can submit the multiple packets.

Gary

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Pepper_rancher, we're supposed to send in 10 packets of each variety - from 5-10 seeds or more in each packet in the categories which fit your tomato varieties.
There will be 10 people who can join each category. I also have a question: Do we send in only one variety per category?

I would like to join these categories:
Heart
Beefsteak
Cherry
Red
Pink
Canner
Blue
Gold/Orange
Striped
Sweet
Giant
maybe Early, Hot Weather, Cool Weather - need to check

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Please count me in.
Is there a limit on the number of packets we can send in?

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Crystalline,

I'm not going to put a limit on the number of packs sent in.

The only limit is on your wish list (10 varieties). After 10 wish list varieties, or if you have less than 10 varieties requested, you can then request TYPES of tomatoes (from the above categories).

I'm limiting the wish list because another large tomato/pepper swap may not happen, and therefore this swap possibly could double in size, or more.

Gary

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Yay, I have enough seeds to participate this time :)

Will send an email. Thanks for hosting this round robin :)

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Midwest,

The 10 packs are for the optional guidelines of the swap, which not all participants will partake in.

Some people will have just one pack of each variety they send in, which is another part of the swap.

You can join one category more than once. But say, joining the Cherry/Grape category 4 times, would mean expecting about 40 different cherry and grape varieties back, which the swap may not be able to handle.

Joining the Beefsteak and probably a few other categories twice would not be a problem. This, of course, would mean sending in 10 packs each of two different varieties for a category, not 20 packs of one variety.

Gary

 o

I will post my catagory list as soon as my new seed order arrives.

Been waiting for this swap. Gary did an amazing job last year! Please add me to the list. I will email info.

My #1 is Barlow Jap

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

I would be interested in joining. I am currently in the process of saving seed from two varieties that are somewhat of a mystery. The original seed was from a co-worker of my father in-law who has since passed. I believe he saved the seeds from year to year for several years. They were simply marked German Pink and German Red. The Pink is a potato leaf with 2-3 pound pink beefsteaks. The Red is a regular leaf with 2-3 pound Red beefsteaks. Both are indeterminate. If these are something that enough people would be interested in I would love to send them in and see what everyone thinks of them and maybe see if they can be narrowed down as to variety.

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

emailing for your mailing address.

Wish List

Ozark Sunset
Bosque Blue
Fahrenheit Blues
Big Zac

Have packed up my 10 packs of (5-10)seeds for the optional Mystery

Still getting other seeds packaged up for the regular swap that I don't own enough quantity but may be more sought after for above mystery categories. Thx for putting this on ;)

Have done seeds swaps for flowers before, not for tomatoes. Will have couple varieties to send. Emailed. Thank you!

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Could you fill me in on the 'regular swap' rules?

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

I'd like a post about what the rules are for the regular trade too please.
I know I don't have enough of any seed to join the big trade, but I do have 1-3 trades each of several varieties to send in if that works. 10 seeds per packet, yes? My number one on my wish list is Reisetomate.

Thank you!

-B-

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

#1 on my wish list is Dixie Golden Giant. How do the bonus seeds work...just send in whatever we want and whoever claims them first gets them? What if someone is away from their computer and doesn't see the listings? Hate for anyone to miss out. I have quite a few that need new homes - both flowers and veggies.

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Gary posted the rules for the regular swap before he posted the rules for the individual category swap. Read everything by "tormato" aka "Gary" starting at the top and you will find all the rules. :)

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

I probably didn't post the guidelines, other than saying the same as last year, with the addition of the new guidelines for the "categories" part of the swap.

So, there really are no guidelines for seed packs, as I'm trying to be as flexible as possible in doing the swap.

Guidelines for bubble mailers and postage, etc...apply.

Last year, I put a maximum of sending in 40 different varieties, with no maximum on bonuses (over 40 varieties).

This year no minimum no maximum on varieties, nor a minimum or maximum on the number of packs of each sent in.

The only guideline is a maximum of 10 varieties on your wish list. Beyond 10, you can request TYPES of tomatoes from the various categories listed above.

All TOMATO seed bonuses sent in are evenly divided among all participants (excluding the 10 pack/categories part of the swap). If you send in more than 10 packs of one variety, those packs beyond 10 will be bonuses.

All other veggie/fruit/flower/etc...seed will be posted by me, when the seeds get to me. It will be on a first request basis. Please, if you request one (or more) of these, let others get a chance, also. If you're joining through Gardenweb, let me know on your paper wish list/sending in list included with your seeds, so these non-tomato seeds will be posted only on this Gardenweb thread.

Some emails originating through Gardenweb are either not getting through, or I get a message that I can't respond back because some do not allow access to their email through Gardenweb. Emailing me without routing through Gardenweb may avoid any more problems.

Any more questions, please ask.

Gary

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Thanks Gary, that clears it up for those of us who didn't participate last year. This sounds like fun!!

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Midwest,

This is what I'll likely do with non-tomato bonus seeds...

Wait until all seeds come in (about Dec 1st)...
Set a date in advance for when they will be listed (somewhere just after Dec 1st)...
List them on that set date...
People will email me with what they would like, with their first choice numbered 1, second choice numbered 2, etc..
I'll allow emails to come in for a few days...
The first email I receive gets their first choice. I then go to the next person to email me, and they get their first choice...
When I go through all the emails, I then return to the first emailer for their second choice..the second emailer for their second choice, etc...
It continues until I run out of seeds.

Gary

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

so to be clear.... I have packed up my 10 packs for each category I am participating....I also packed up another 50 packs with 40 different varieties. So my understanding says I recv back 10 packs of different varieties per category including my own pack/variety back. As for the other 50 packs, I get back 40 other varieties and then what packs I have duplicates of are considered 10 Bonus packs to get evenly distributed by all participants?

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Sounds great tormato. I have already checked participants' wish lists and am happy that I have many to share on those lists for the regular trade and extras for the bonus trade. When my little ziplock bags arrive from ebay, I'll be ready to start packaging seeds. To avoid confusion for you, I will have 3 bags... one labeled TOMATO TRADE, one REGULAR TRADE, and one BONUS.

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Laurie848,

Each category should be about 9 to 10 different varieties back, depending on how many others join each category. If 11 people, or 22, or 33, join a category everyone gets back 10. Any other number and it doesn't divide up evenly. But, I may take seeds from bonuses to even out a category. I've dropped the part where you'd get your own variety back, by figuring out 11, not 10, people to a group.

For you, it looks like about 190 varieties from the categories, plus 40 varieties from your random send-ins. If everyone is like you and sends in about 10 bonuses, you'll get back about 10 bonuses. I can't predict what the bonuses will be, but the tomato swaps I've been in have had about 20-45 extras. So, 250 + varieties is what you may get back, as long as everything goes according to plans. Much of it depends on not too many people sending in the same varieties.

Gary

RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Holy Tomato Salsa!!!! That's a lot of tomato varieties. Found a few of the wish list requests that I can add in ;) I love that you can put 5 seeds since most of my stash I own only 10-15 seeds for each variety. But I don't see myself planting more than 2 plants per variety with a couple of back ups. I will hold on to my package for a couple of weeks to see if I can fill wish lists. Let the tomato party begin... Thanks Gary!!!

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Count me in. I have many to contribute but need very few back on my wish list, so I'll be joining the regular trade. Are you including saved seed from hybrids? I'll send you an email when I get my seeds together.
Thanks, John A

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

John,

Saved seed of hybrids (F2's) will only go to those who join the Experimental category part of the swap. Requirements are 10 packs (5 to 10 seeds each) of a variety. If you have less than 10 packs, I can give them as bonuses to the Experimental category participants.

The vast majority of people in the swap want stable varieties.

Gary

Yahoo, my seed orders have come in finally.

I will be participating in the regular seed trade.

Slightly breaking my own rules here.

A large donation of Chinese Red Noodle beans came in. The first 25 participants in the tomato swap to email me, each get a pack. Please email, otherwise this thread will start to get very long.

The rules for my listing (in early Dec.) of small amounts of donated non-tomato seed still apply.

RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

If you're not aware, this computer was melting down several times trying to type long lists of seeds. I almost gave up with the non-tomato seeds. So, a few packages went out before receiving your non-tomato requests. If you'd still like them (depending on if they are available ) you can let me know if I should send a second package.

Tomato seeds (~10,000 total packs) should be finished tonight. Then it's the non-tomatoes, and the sending of many packages out, hopefully all next week. I just hope your screen name can be found with your wish lists so I know who you are who are requesting non-tomato seeds.

Gary

Gary,

If you have not mailed my envelope yet, I would love to take some Litchi tomato and ground cherry (strawberry type) off your hands.

Thank you

I received my seeds today and am both overwhelmed and excited to learn about all of the new varieties! Rototilling up another part of the yard just may be my future. Thank you Gary! You have done an incredible job hosting the swap again this year. I can't even imagine the time you've put in over the last month sorting and mailing 10,000 packets of seeds. You rock!!!!

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

Mal,

I received your email, but I'm blocked from replying to it. Please email again, but don't route it through Gardenweb.

Please send me a mailing address, and a list of about 10 tomato varieties that you may be looking for. Or, let me know what types of tomatoes you may like (colors/shapes/sizes).

At this point everything is going back out . So, there's no need for you to send me anything.

My seeds arrived today, and I'm super excited! Not only did I receive a multitude of interesting tomato seeds but lots of nice bonus seeds too. It was just so fun opening the package and shaking out all the packs of seeds on a gloomy, winter day. The selection is incredible, and it will be difficult to choose which ones to plant this year. Thank you very much to all who contributed and to Gary for his dedication and organizational skills in making this trade happen.

 o
RE: NEW: Incredible Edibles Totally Tomatoes 2013

I've had a great time researching all my new tomato varieties. I received 4 packs that I would like information about if anyone can help me.
One is, I think, a cross between Brandywine Sudduth and another variety. The tags say Blue Suede-uth Shoes, which may be the name of the new cross, and Brandywine Sudduth.
Another pack says Warren Bees (or Dees), experimental giant. I am wondering about the color and possible size.
Also, I have Dragoeva (or Draboeva, Draoova?). I have Googled various spellings and can't find anything.
The 4th pack is Mhsiao (or Mhslao) Mis Mung Shin. I could find no info online about this one either.
If the contributors of these very interesting 'mystery' seeds, or anyone else, can share details about them, I would love to know more.
