Gardener of the month- November swap partners

This will be the last month for our gom group. I have the names of who sends to who.

I know that some of us can still receive plants and others can't. I think we should all post a quick note letting our partner know if we can receive plants or not.

Heres the list...

Debbya sends to Annie

Annie sends to Lisa

Lisa sends to Deb (momcat)

deb (momcat) sends to Kara

Kara sends to Linda

Linda sends to debbya

I cannot receive live plants at this time of the year but bulbs and seeds would be fine.

Momcat,

I'll check your zone and wants list and see if I can come up with something special for your box.

Annie,

I found a bubble envy today addressed to you with three stamps on it, did I forget to send you something? or did I make two accidently. Please let me know!!!!

Have a great night ladies

Lisa

    Annie,

I'm cracking up here! Thanks for the addy but I need Deb(momcats) addy to send her box to her.

I suppose that you and the dogs are outside enjoying beautiful weather while i'm here wearing jackets to go out and gather seeds.

My beds are just about all cut down to the ground for the winter, it's so depressing! Winters coming.

Debbya, glad to hear that moms procedure went well!

    Lisa,

Hello Annie........is anybody home????? Yes, I ask myself that very question when I do something dingy! Whoops....don't know what I was thinking!! Actually, I was not thinking!!! Two Deb's in one swap is a bit much for me!!! I will send MOMCAT Deb's address to you in a few minutes!!

The weather is super...mid 80's...very dry. We had a nice rain on Sunday morning...quite shocking! Now the Santa Ana Winds will be visiting us again. Tiz fire season!! One of the Germans just dog up half of my onion bed...yes they are enjoying the outdoors!

Let me know if you do not receive MOMCATS addy.

I have to pick up a few more things for you tomorrow Lisa and then your GOM box will be headed EAST!

    Happy seed gathering!

Hello all this is Deb's last post in the Birthday Bash 2009 begins thread.

    Posted by debbya z4IL (da1763@aol.com) on Thu, Nov 6, 08 at 21:04

Mom passed away today at 1:15. We received a call at 2 am saying that Mom was found on the floor in the hospital bathroom a 2 am and was unresponsive. They called code blue and gave her CPR. Her blood pressure was really low. I didn't even have a chance to meet with the vascular specialists until we walked in. They said the aneurism was small (by her heart) and they would monitor it. It wasn't life threatening. They also said her gallbladder calmed down and the attack stopped and said that wasn't life threatening. But, what was serious was why Mom's stomach was bloated and why she was found on the floor. Mom was awake and alert and a little disorented, but I was able to talk with her and tell her that I loved her! They then rushed her to surgery, and they came back with horrible news. They said Mom's aorta threw a blood clot, the clot clogged the top of the intestine, which then caused both intestines to die due to no blood circulation. They said Mom wouldn't have much time, so we spent the morning with her on a ventilator machine, she was in a coma. Mom didn't want to be hooked up on any machines if her prognosis ever turned really bad. So, going with Mom's wishes, had the machine turned off. She warned me that if I didn't listen- she would haunt me. ;) She knows how I don't give up on anything- and that I'm subborn. I'm in shock- exhausted and can honestly use all the prayers possible for strengh!
Mariann's box arrived today, and I didn't have a chance to open it yet. I'm so sorry..
I've been on the phone with the funeral home making arrangements and will meet with them personally tomorrow at 11 am.
I'll be back online tomorrow, after I open up Mariann's box. I'll also post what was in Diene's box. I honestly never imagined this in a million years! Mom was only going in for a small breast lump (2 centemeters) and that was it!
I have a feeling that the wake will be on Monday, and the funeral on Tuesday. So, if you don't hear from me for a couple of days, you know why.

My Mom's name was Gayla, Nik.

    Hugs,
    Deb
Please keep her in your thoughts and prays, she needs all the prayer and virtual hugs we all can give her now.

    Thank you all,
    Fran

    Ladies,

I was thinking about how this is our last month for our birthday gom group, december is creeping up to us quickly!
We had discussed continuing this group a while back and I figured that if we are going to continue then we should open it up to six others soon.

I know that I would love to continue but I would want to change from July to maybe May or June. It was way to hot and dry here for planting and I did lose a few of my precious babies that others sent to me.

    who's in and who's not?

I think we should post in the beginning of December what months are open and see if we can fill in the blanks, please let me know what you all think!

    Lisa

    Debbya,
I can't get you off my mind, I hope you are hanging in there!

    Good Morning,

Lisa, I am in! That is fine with me if you change your month due to weather concerns. We should let each person pick the month they would like to have. I am more flexilbe living here in zone 9 versus your zone 5, more because of your colder climate obviously. Hopefully, we can get 12 people who will stick with it for the entire year!

Start this in Jan or Feb????

    Hi Ladies,
I have had a great time in this swap and am so glad I stuck with it the whole time! 2009 is going to be very busy since I am going back to school for my masters and also working full time on top of that and taking care of all the animals and the DH haha...I just do not think financially or timewise I will be able to continue for next year. I will still pop in once in a while to say hi and catch up if thats ok though! Hope you all find some people to stay with it the whole time like us six :)
    Deb, you're in my thoughts!

    Annie,
I am getting my masters in molecular pathology. It's the same stuff I do now basically just more in depth. I am exited and nervous I've been out of school for 4 years, wondering how long it will take to get back into the swing of things.
It is humid and raining today, yuck, I'm glad to be staying inside!

Annie, I'll watch for my box today, I can't wait... I just love a surprise!

Kara, sorry that you wont be joining us, good luck with school.

We haven't heard from Linda at all, I hope everything is okay.

I didn't get Debs box out on Monday, I ended up working the day. I hope to get it out tomorrow.

It's in the 40's by day now, got all the leaves cleaned up and everything cut back. I planted out some dollar finds at the local nursery the other day. I got some phlox and campanulas for a buck a quart. I hope they make it!

Gotta get ready for work, have a great day!

HI Ladies..sorry..it's been a bit nuts around here. I don't know if I told everyone or not, but my husband has been diagnosed as bi-polar. His mood swings are horendous! FINALLY, the doctor is going to put him on Depakote. It's like he has PMS 24 hours a day...sooooo...I have been working on Deb's box and have about everything for it. I would like to join the new swap starting in January..."whew".I think that's everything!

  • canyonwind

    Linda,

The closest fire was about 20-30 minutes away. We are OK but always prepared. We are butted up to Cleveland National Forest...dry baby dry. The winds are calm which is a very good thing.....some rain would be so lovely. Tomorrow it is supposed to be mid to high 80's............

    Good Morning ladies,

I lost my computer for a few days but I have it back now.

Annie, I got your box, it was beautiful!

    Annie sent

    glassine seed envies
    a block of note paper
    tulip bulbs, I love these!!!
    muscari bulbs
a santa hat.. I will wear this when I do my annual craft project with my great neices and nephews.
    creme brulee coffee, it's yummy.
    a huge butterfly ornament
    3 pack air fresheners
slippers, to keep my piggies warm!

help me out Annie, I already put everything away. It was a great box!!!!!! Thank you.

Linda, I was wondering where you were. I'm sorry to hear that about your hubby. I know how hard it is to deal with someone with bipolar disorder. The depakote does help with the mood swings so long as he takes it!

I have Debs box ready to go, I just haven't been able to get it out yet. I have a pinched nerve in my neck and it's been acting up again lately.

Deb, If your out there your box will go out tomorrow!

    Have a great day!!!

Oh Annie, you do a lot of shopping at hgoods, don't you?

  • canyonwind

    Lisa,

I would not be without my Santa hat. I decorate the house, cook, garden and party with it on. Why not?

I THINK I put blue garden gloves, poinsetta cocktail napkins and Christmas cocktail knives in your box.....If you do not have them, they are on there way to one of my adopted soldiers in Iraq. That is what happens when you have multi boxes going!

I do not believe we have Home Goods here in Orange County. I am a T J Maxx shopper...love that store!

    Have a wonderful Tuesday......

I want to join in the new swap too (starting in January). Should I post a new thread soon? We need to start getting more members to fill the extra months. Let me know when everyone's ready, and I'll post a thread.

    Deb,

I think we should post soon about the new year for our group.

I myself would like to change the month that I had. I
originally had August but got bumped up to June. I would love to take May if noone has any objections. I lost a few things that were sent to me due to the heat this past year.

I think it might be a good idea to just have each member old or new keep their trade list and wants list updated so that we may pick up things as we see them.

I'm in the nurseries at least 1 day a week in the spring thru the summer and like to pick up plants to send out when I see them.

    what do you think?

    Lisa

  • canyonwind

    Good Morning,

Seeing that this will start in January, 2009, I think the new GOM thread should be posted ASAP. With Thanksgiving and Christmas around the corner people are busy and not checking in as often.

Lisa wants May...sounds good to me!

Debbya and Linda...you guys should pick the months you would prefer.

    MOMCAT are you playing??????

August and September can be rough months here but I am more flexible because of where I live, so I will wait to pick a month until you guys pick. I think that is only fair to you guys...let's face it, I am still wearing a vented tank and shorts, planting and dividing and enjoying the garden. I don't anticipate a snow storm coming in anytime soon! This is perfect weather to be planting out here! No, I am not rubbing it in!

I agree Lisa, keeping the trade list up to speed for the old and new GOM members makes sense!

    Have a great day!

Deb, (debya) I'll be mailing your package on the 26th when we get paid. Jeff's meds and appointments ran us short this month (just when you think you're prepared!)

I would like June if no one has it because it's my birthday month.

Annie, SPLAT!! , there's a snowball for you..."G" The wind is whistling and blowing, snow is falling and I'm ready to start a fire in the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate. Personally, I think winter sucks.."stuffing myself in a box and addressing it to Annie"..."L"

And Linda, stuff yourself in a box and come overnight FED-EX. I'll have Baileys..................

    Linda is taking June......

I received my box from Lisa yesterday. Wow!! what a nice assortment of goodies!
    A 3 piece tool set
3 different packs of bulbs, canna, scilla, and glad
Some really great seeds for winter sowing
    Some plant markers
    a bottle of Herbal moisturizer
    A cute thermometer
    A fragrance diffuser
    Christmas scented candles
    A cute elf ornament
    A scented shower sponge,
    Post-its
    A note pad
    and some pretty flower magnets.

Thank you so much Lisa, I just love it.

    A note to Kara,

I am very sorry that your box is late going out. The time just got away from me, and I am running so late on everything. I will try to get it out early next week.

Thank you all for including me in the swap. You all have just been wonderful. I have had a lot going on, and things are still overwhelming for me at times since my mother's death (not an excuse, it's something I thought I could handle, but it's been harder than I ever imagined).

I will post the delivery confirmation number when Kara's box goes out.

I received Kara's box today and it was just full of really cool stuff!

first of all it has in it:
    Pandora's Box daylily
Pairie Blue eyes daylily..I'm going to look these up and see what they look like. I have really gotten into daylilies this year! also, this is probably the last day I'll be able to plant anything..perfect timing Kara!

    seeds:
Fushia/red mini roses (I have never started these from seeds..this is going to be fun!)
Black Moudry grass (HA! I have my own seeds now and don't have to harass dan for some of his)
Dianthus (I love these, they're so delicate)
evening primrose (these always smell so nice)
Knautia "burgandy wine" ( I have to look these up!)
Gallardia fanfare (great for the butterflies)
White coneflower (I only have purple, been wanting some of these)
Southern sea oats (can't wait to plant these either)

    she also sent:
santa sitter ornament (he's really CUTE!)
crocus bulbs in a vase (these are really neat..you put the bulb in the vase and keep it filled up and then it sprouts...how awesome is that?)
miracle grow food spikes (she must've heard my plants yelling..."L")
    AND...
this absolutley adorable garden lady...she's about 18 inches tall and made out of metal. SHe is carrying a plant, a watering can and has a spade tucked into her gardening apron. Sh'es also wearing a green, yellow and red hat. My kitten tried to eat her earrings but I caught her in time.."L". SHe'll look really cute on my porch next year!

thanks for a great box Kara, I just loved everything! ((HUG))
