| It's THAT time of year again, and no, I don't mean anything to do with the holidays. I mean that it's time to start perusing and choosing amongst the seed catalogs, dreaming and planning the PERFECT garden for 2010! And so, I've had an idea for what may turn out to be the easiest "swap" we've ever had! LOL! No deadlines, no sign-ups, no visits to the local post office to mail out a box or two, and no delivery confirmation numbers. What I thought we could do is post a listing of our favorite catalogs, and why we like them. Then, read the lists other people have posted, go to the website, and request a catalog. How easy could that be?
For example... My favorite seed companies are Burpee, Thompson & Morgan, and Jungs. I like Burpee because of their quality of service, the viability of their seeds, and the great illustrations in their catalog. The same goes for Thompson & Morgan. As for Jungs, I like to get my fruit trees and vines from them because I know they're going to coming from good stock.
Peace.

| I also like Diane's seeds, Swallowtale and Jung. Here are some other plant or seed companies I like. High Country Gardens - They send good sized plants for the price, and offer lots of hummingbird plants that I can't find anywhere else. http://www.highcountrygardens.com/ White Flower Farm - Might be a little expensive, but the catalogs are drool-worthy, and they are often the first to offer a new shrub that I can't find anywhere else. http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/index.html
Brushwood Nursery - Good source for clematis or other climbing flowering plant. http://www.gardenvines.com/shop/
Sample Seed Shop - Just found this company recently, has a good selection of unusual tomatoes and also flower garden seeds, most for a dollar. http://sampleseeds.com/ |

| Thanks for this great swap. I've spent way too much ordering catalogs and looking through online catalogs, not to mention ordering from one! LOL I did find one that I fell in love with that wasn't mentioned yet, too. It's online only really, although they offer several catalogs of companies they represent. It's: www.DirectGardening.com They have great 1 cent sales where you buy one at their already low prices and get more for just a penny. I found a ton of good deals, both flowers and veggies, but by far my favorite was their great prices on fruit plants! My disclaimer: I have never ordered from them before, so I can't say how good the company is or anything. ;-) Blessings, |
|
| WOW! That's a lot of seed sites! MY favorite is https://www.artisticgardens.com/catalog/ They have sample seeds for $.35. Great for trying out new varieties and for folks like me (BEFORE GW) who didn't need a whole lot of seeds. |

| Just wanted to share a good resource for checking out mail order companies. www.gardenwatchdog.com. People can go there and rate companies they have dealt with. Reading these reviews has surely saved me money and heartache when thinking of ordering from a company that seems too good to be true! |

| I received the D. Landreth Seed Company catalog today. WOW! dorisl is right, it is a beautiful catalog. The ivory paper and old style illustrations are just the start. In the center of the catalog are photos of the vegies/flowers! I am so impressed! Can't believe you can get this for free! Thanks for the recommendation, dorisl! ~Kathy |

| Has anybody ordered from hardyseeds.com and if so what is your opinion? |
|
| if you mean hardyplants.com, they have great stuff, but they're slow & their customer service is nonexistent. placed my order 1/20, it was charged 1/21 & i got an email 2/24 saying my order was shipped. i sent 4 emails in between 1/20 & 2/24 asking for order status--they were all ignored. i haven't gotten my order yet so can't comment on seed counts or quality. it doesn't matter, anyway. i won't order from them again. |

| I loved finding this swap. I'm filing this for an I can't get outside week. Too much to check out in a day. I don't think I saw this one though. TGN's Pumpkin Nook, sells Ferry Morse and Lilly Miller seed and Jiffy supplies along with other items. Not just pumpkins as the name would imply. This is only an internet site but you can mail or call in your orders. They have excellent prices. Their seeds are less than what I would have to pay at a local store. They don't offer a huge selection but they do have organics and heirlooms. Another plus is Ferry Morse seeds are guaranteed to grow. You have to check out the Ferry Morse site to read that. Shipping on seeds is a flat rate of $2.79 per order. Less than a gallon of gas in most places. Other items ship at a different rate. I've always had excellent service as well. Thanks Dan, you are the Man. I mean mailman. |
|
| I love JL Hudson seeds - unbelievably fast shipping and they have varieties that are not just the "common" ones. Not like I need any more seeds - especially when there's Diane's Seeds online and T's Seeds and things to provide me with more temptation. My driveway is definitely a testimony to my inability to stay away from ordering more seeds...all that WSing. |
