| Oh good, I can log in today! A couple of days ago I got some balloon flower seeds from missmojo, and some blue mistflower and a funny card with Santa getting sucked into a plane engine from kmpsmom. Thank you! Blue mistflower grows wild in the park near my house. It took me a while to find out what it was. My fiancee and I had been called it "fiber-optic flower" to give you some idea of what it looks like. Cool! I just counted up how many cushaw squashes I harvested this year. Came out to 25! I'm going to be eating squash forever. |

| Hi Gardeners and Swappers I received two cards yesterday. YIPPPEEE Thanks so much to MissMojo for the balloon flowers . I loved the elegant simplicity of your card.. I need more of that in my life. Thank you also to Micryey for the ironweed. I used to grow it but it has disappeared from my garden. I forgot how much the butterflies loved it. Your card reminded me of my Great Aunt Ethel's lovely quilts. Thanks for giving me that memory of her. |

Thank you Smitties for the Yarrow, Fennel and Sorrel--I can't wait to try them out! The trees around here have gotten confused and started budding out; at this rate, I'm liable to do the same :). |

| Two more cards today...yippee!!!! Xiangirl sent zinnias and blanketflowers, both of which will look great in the summer sun! Gmom sent mixed foxglove, orange cosmos, and a cosmos mix, all wrapped up in christmas paper. She also sent along some sugar cookie sleigh ride herbal tea, which I'm going to save enjoy tomorrow afternoon while making out my cards for the family whilst listening to some trans-siberian orchestra. We're supposed to get 12-16 inches of more snow, with winds up to 40mph, so it'll be a good day to stay indoors, eh? Sugar cookies are my favorite type of cookie, so I'm looking forward to enjoying this tea! YUM!! -Dan |
|
| Oh my Dan, you sure have been getting your fair share of snow already. We had a little yesterday but my husband and I were in Columbus and missed it. By the time we got home, it had all melted. I canceled some travel plans to meet a friend for dinner tonight cause they were calling for a nasty mess but seems we will miss it. Hope it doesn't hit too hard on ya. Enjoy that trans-siberian orchestra. My daughter and I went to see them last month and the concert was amazing. They were fantastic and played for a long time with no break. Highly recommend everyone see them if possible. Stay warm, Margo

| It's hard keeping track of who I need to thank between trips to use the library computer. I need some sort of system (but then, a lot of my life would benefit from a system. I am just not an organized person!). Trying to settle the dust from moving is made easier by the dreams of my summer garden supplied by generous elves! Thank you to Lisa831 for Matina tomatoes. My all-time favorite tomato! We don't get much mail at our new house, so all these envelopes make it feel more like home (plus, they are more fun than the water and sewage bills!) Ellie |

| Dan; my daughter took me to see the Trans-Syberian Orchestra last Christmas. They were incredible- and way different from anything this country girl had ever seen- LOL!! They are an experience that every one should have. I just realized that my husband did not give me any grief about mailing my cards this year. I think it is because he is enjoying looking at the envelopes to see where they all have come from. Missmojo: my first hand made card and Purple Balloon Flowers Aphroditelaughs: angel card with Amaranth, Gold Coast Statice, Summer Peaches Alysum. Loved those seed envelope labels Molly_and_me: pretty wreath card and Pink Gromphrena Paulan70: bells n ribbon card- mixed Impatiens and mixed Hybiscus Kmpsmom: too cute snoopy card with yellow Zinnia Rbrady: perfect gardener's wreath card with white Gomphrena and Sambucus Americana (I loved Elderberries muffins when I was a kid, and elderberry wine as a young adult, but I could not find any info on this specific variety when I searched it?) I am excited to grow it anyhow! Again, many thanks for sharing the Christmas spirit and these wonderful cards and seeds with me. Many hugs to you all |

| I'm going to quit watching the news! Now they've updated the snow forecast to over 20 inches before Monday morning...brrrrrrr!!! I went looking tonight for a winter coat, and found that they're so picked over it's pitiful. I know, I know, I should've done this a long time ago, right? I got home just in time to beat the snow, which has started to fall with an inch of accumulation already. I've made myself a cup of that sugar cookie tea and it tastes great! Also, I found myself a great winter coat online, and it'll be here sometime between Wednesday and Friday. I've been without one for a number of years, so a few more days won't matter, but I'm looking forward to having one soon! Yee-haw! |

| wow, dan, 20 inches? we're supposed to get 8 and the grocery stores are packed with frantic people. i don't know how those of you in north deal with all that snow. i guess you're much more equipped to deal with it than we are. waynesburg got hammered last year with the most snow we've had in a decade, about 24-30 inches, and out power was out for two weeks, phones out for over a week, no school for almost three weeks. thankfully we heat with wood anyway and out freezers were packed, but that was nothing compared to what you guys deal with every winter! you have my utmost respect! |

| OMG! I finally logged on tonight! Daffodillady- I received it in a trade but I am willing to bet it is supposed to be Sambucus canadensis-American (or common) elderberry:-) Now for the thank yous to all the wonderful people that have sent me seeds:-) Lois in PA Odin and Thor sent me surprise seeds! Thank you for all of the beautiful cards and for the great seeds! The weather today has been terrible-first it rained like crazy-then it turned to freezing rain and sleet then snow. We are in a blizzard watch until Monday. I am actually kind of glad it rained first-otherwise we would have been dumped on with snow. Ahhhh-December in the Midwest:-)Rhonda |

| Hi, What a blizzard we had today -- about 6" of snow blowing around! Right now it has quit snowing, but we still have terrible winds and a windchill advisory ( its +1 -- bbrr). But, despite the snow and cold my dear Todd bundled up and made me a path to the mailbox with the snowblower -- what a sweetheart! And, it was well worth it because I received another card. :) beauswatch ~~ sent some red cypress vine, and some pink climbing vine -- can't wait to try the pink vine -- sounds neat! | It has been a busy weekend I recieved a lot of cards! Stuffed with holiday cheer and seeds, they will all be welcom additions to my garden and to my SIL's garden too! micyrey 2 types of morning glories I am positively shocked by the condition of the cards this year. 2 so far have arrived in plastic bags with an 'We're Sorry" message from the post office. the shocker is that these envelopes were really not that bad compared to some others. Static cling from the plastic seed packets was all that was holding some of the seeds inside the cards! I recieved a few with "Postage due" stamped on them, but they were delivered anyway. I am really surprised at the postal service this year, I know that regulations are more strictly adhered to in some areas than others, but the variety of strange looking mail is just astonishing! as an example, I recieved Michell's (micyrey) card in a plastic bag, and only a corner of the envelope flap was loose. I received another card in an envelope that was open on three sides. the little seed bag was clinging inside like a little miracle but there was no plastic bage from the postal service! I will never bad mouth the Postal Workers. they work hard, very hard especially at Christman, but WOW!!!! Anyway I hope that you are all having a special day, staying warm and safe. Thanks you all so much for your generousity in sharing your gardens!

| Am I missing something? I haven't seen any Bingo words for a while but I might have missed someone posting they had BINGO. Nasty weather here today. Schools all over are closed. The state changed the rules and schools only get 3 days this year instead of 5. When you are using your first one in early December, things don't look very promising. We only had a couple of inches but some was the wet stuff which froze half way through the day and with more snow falling, that made a nasty mess through the night. My family is home for the day and I have to work. :( I did get called to come in an hour later and I think I will probably go home a little earlier. Hope everyone is staying warm and safe. Smitties |

| I have received 3 more cards. Missmojo sent balloon flower - thank you I love it when the flowers look like little balloons. ilovefarac sent stokes aster, penstemon digitalis and penstemon huskers red - thank you I know my butterfly population is going to increase with all these great new flowers I will have. rbrady sent seeds for several native plants -cardinal flower, helenium, side oats grama, monkey flower and culvers root - thank you ,I am trying to increase the native plants in my yard. Some of these will be good for my bog garden also. We haven't had any snow here, but it has been way too cold to be outside much. It is supposed to be 12 degrees tonight. I dread going to work at 6:30 in the morning. Ginger |

| So excited to finally send out my first batch of cards, I forgot to put the pretty Christmas stickers on them. Just reading about all that snow made my nose go cold! We are getting temps 20 degrees below normal tonight, so will have to bring in our potted plants and cover many other plants tonight. I put all the cards together to say my thank you's, tipped them sideways and some fell out, so I hope I have them right! From Margerita10 I received some lovely rudbeckia's and Canna indica in a card with Santa getting ready to come down the chimney in the snow, cut neatly in half along the spine! Seeds are okay though. From Missmojo some very pretty balloon flowers in a handmade card with a holly stam and hand written Happy Holidays. A really sweet card from Ruth Z with friends, home, joy, a snowman and such with yummy culantro and a dramatic Datura 'White Ballerina'! Thank you so much and can't wait for today's mail! |

| Wow reading all of these posts makes me remember it is winter! I live in Southern California and it is 80 on the patio right now. I have about a hundred seedlings going right now for my garden and am still picking cherry tomatoes and strawberries! I received my first cards and I am very excited. Thanks to Dan themailman for two types of gourd seeds bushel, and kettle. My husband just bought a new woodburner tool for making gourd art so we plan on planting a large crop this next season. Thanks to Margo (smitties) for egg gourd seeds which will be fun to use, and potluck cucmber. Thanks to Lisa (ishare) for lemon balm and lemon basil, which I will plant today! Getting new varieties of seeds really brightens my day! I love looking them up on the computer, getting them planted and then figuring out where to put them in my garden. The most fun comes with sharing my garden production with friends and family! I have been busy making goodies, just finished a batch of lavender basil soap, and a big pot of fig jam. Hope everyone is having a great Holiday season so far! Diana |

Mine are on their way!! :D Although, I have to apologize because I ran out of Christmas cards :'( So some of you might get non-Christmas cards that I tried to make Christmasy by drawing holiday stuff in them. My drawing skills aren't the greatest, but I think it made them look a little better. I hope. lol! Holly

| oh w9yards/diana, i am so jealous of your 80 degrees right now! we were supposed to get snow, but only got a few inches, but it has been and will be in the teens for a very long time and my toes are sooooooo cold LOL. i will be starting some things soon too but winter sowing is not as instantly gratifying as just planting and watching for those tiny leaves to pop up :) |
|

| today was spent in the snowdrifts, trying to find mailboxes I could reach to put some mail in. as for packages, carrying those was a waste of time because I couldn't get down or up any driveways to reach the doors. can we say you've been notified to come pick up a parcel at the post office??? as tiring as today was, it was wonderful to come home to a couple of christmas cards from Ginger/ggwrn and Carolynp! Carolyn sent coneflowers and nasturtiums, and coneflowers and zinnias! THANK YOU LADIES! These will look great in the yard next summer! And on that note, this tired mailman is going to bed. I'd love any information that you might have about it. Thank you, Missmojo, for the Balloon Flower seeds! I feel bad that I don't grow any purple flowers, but I'll be sure to pass it on to someone that will enjoy them : ) Started wrapping presents for the children today, and am going to spend tomorrow getting all of my seeds packaged up, so the cards will be ready to mail on Wednesday. Thanks again for brightening up the holidays!!! Bonnie |

| Received 3 more beautiful cards filled with seeds today. crisann sent me a Hardy Hibiscus Mix, Yellow Hollyhock, and a Malva mix. I loved the sweet picture of your beautiful puppy. I read where so many of our gardening friends are experiencing lots of snow already. Since I'm down here in West Central Georgia, we all got so excited when we saw a few snowflakes falling yesterday! You would laugh if you could see how everything comes to a grinding halt when we do have a rare snowfall - schools, businesses, and churches close. It is a treat for all of us and we're hoping we get a really big snow this Winter! |
|
Yeah baby! Believe it,...another card-n-seeds here today! From not-the-green-thumb (Erica): A cute handmade 3D-reindeer card with the following seeds - Aunt Ruby's German Green Tomato (heirloom) (Beafsteak type slicer, green when mature and reputedly dee-licious) and Peaches and Cream sweet corn (An extremely popular bi-color). | I can't believe how much I enjoy waiting for the mail now - so much nicer than those nasty bills. I haven't been involved in the games just because life's a little hectic between my job (working in an all-girl school and with Middle School age girls will do that to you) and family issues, but I love the Christmas spirit from all my new and old GW friends. I hope it's a Merry Christmas for all of you! Cheers, Ann |

| Micyrey, I just looked Ironweed up and was delighted to find that its another deer-resistant native. I also liked your idea of leaving the card reusable and inserting a note. Not sure if I'll be able to part with the card anytime soon :), but I'll try to remember to follow your example in the future. Thanks! |

| Actually meant to post this just before Thanksgiving, but,...well,... This is the best pie crust recipe we've ever run across! From: Meta Given's Modern Encyclopedia of Cooking(c) 1955, vol. II, pg. 924: Plain PastryIngredients for 2 crust pie of 3 different sizes. ----------------------------------------------------------- Instructions: Put flour into medium mixing bowl. Add salt, cut in shortening. Add ice water, mix well to the consistency of pie crust dough and roll it out. Even my hardened baker of a SIL prefers this one anymore.Awwwwww,...c'mon! I employed the proper spacing! :/ |

| cryptid, I have been a Meta Givens acolyte since I was a kid and my mother served meals prepared from her recipes. Many of our family favorites came from those books. I agree. Flaky and tender, you could put anything in that crust and have a great pie. I use it for everything. |
|
| Thanks so much to MissMojo for the balloon flower. Also, thanks to RBrady and Ginger (ggwrn) for the profusion zinnias. Even though both sent me zinnias, I didn't get any duplicates. My annual garden is going to look great! Thanks again! |

Having lemon tree flowers by me, mmmm fragrance! Potted little tree, part of my present from sweet daughter Mary. She's the one who got me cards I've been sending you and we went to Gina's to get zinnia flowers twice, all frozen now so it's a good thing. | I received a card today from Celeegra 2010. I'm sorry to say that it came with a postage due notice. Also, the card was in perfect condition, but the seeds in one of the packets, Flying Dragon, were completely crushed : ( If it makes you feel any better, it wasn't hardy to my zone anyway. The rest of the seeds seem to be fine - Red Ruffles Peony Poppy, Pink poppies, Lobelia (cardinal flower), and Canary Climber (had to look this one up, very interesting). The tiny seeds, such as Poppies, and Lobelia, will usually be fine in a regular envelope without extra padding, but the larger seeds, such as those Flying Dragon ones, will need a layer of bubble wrap in order to arrive safely. Thank you so much for the card and seeds, I'll definitely be wintersowing some of them! |
|

Ellie (aphroditelaughs) sent really beautiful packets of NY Asters, Echinops ritro, poppies and Nicotiana Chocolate smoke -- all of which I am excited about --especially to see the Nicotiana in action. Sadly I also received the front of an envelope from Jodie74 in a "We Care" USPS envelope with no sign of the card or any seeds. Thank you everyone for the sweet cards and the seeds, and thank you Jodie for the thought and I hope those seeds find their way into the ground somewhere! Cheers, Aggie |

| There was another envelope full of sunshine waiting or me at the mailbox today. I could really get used to this... FlowerGirl34, thank you for the Scabiosa, Coneflower, and both types of Yarrow (and the stickers:)). The deer should be utterly bewildered next year thanks to Santa's thoughtfulness. Hope your day was just as bright! |
|
| Finally, we're back from town after a long day of TCB, and mailing off another ten envies of cards-n-seeds. Just two more to go, which will be mailed tomorrow (Elly's and my 30th wedding anniversary. - El's folks were going to treat to dinner out, but alas they're going through a bit of a rough patch just now, recently brought upon them by scurilous so-called home visitation health provider assistants (read vultures)). It's just sooooo great reading about all the generous, festive exchanges, here, not to mention the essentially familial interaction! This entire SSSS is such an unbelievably powerful Christmas season's feelings boost for Elly & I, as it was last year! Thank you, everyone, just simply for participating! - Kym,...you totally rock, girl! Thank you sooooooo much!! :) |

| Well, I'm home. My dad came through the surgery ok, thanks for all the prayers. They split him wide open and replaced his defective heart valve with one donated by a cow. He is now at home, probably trying to do too much. When I got home, I found a stack of 6 cards waiting for me! Last night I put up my Christmas tree and got it about half decorated. Now the rush to get caught up on Christmas! Thanks to the following people for their cards. They sure cheered me up during this hectic and trying time. Ishareflowers for the Peaches and Dreams hollyhocks Thanks so much all, and merry Christmas! |

| Perhaps we should call today Twosday, ya think? That seems to be the number of cards most people are receiving, including me! After a day of driving in the ditches and delivering packages, it was like a breath of fresh air to find the only mail I had in my mailbox were two cards filled with good cheer! Bustani's card had a wintery c-tree on it, and inside was a wrapped package containing basil and catnip! Something for everyone to enjoy...yayyyyy! THANK YOU!!! Karen sent a card filled with "seeds 'n greeting" which gave me a good chuckle! Inside was a package of marigold seeds, which I've always thought of as little bursts of sunshine in the garden THANK YOU!!! ............................................ After seeing so many ways to package these seeds, I'm going to have to remember a few of them for next years' swap! Kym, is it too early to start planning for next year??? ho ho ho |

| My dad hasn't been able to log in and post for over a week, and he's getting pretty frustrated! He emailed gardenweb but they didn't respond yet. Anyways, he sent me this message because he wanted to thank everyone for all of the cards he received so far, which is a lot! ***THANK YOU FROM GARDENDAD_2K10*** Wow wow WOW - I am just overwhelmed with happiness with all of the cards and seeds I have been receiving! Everyone has been very generous and I am very grateful to you all for this. I have a whole pile of cards that I will be thanking people for, so stay with me. BUSTANI - Christmas tree card with a present inside. I opened the present and out came never-ending seeds. Wow wow WOW! I think they were all hand-drawn on and colored with Christmas sayings. She sent Cherry Bomb Pepper, Catnip and Catgrass (Kitty is very grateful), Sugar Snap Peas, Basil Mix, Blue Lake Bush Bean, Nature Sweet Tomato (LOVE TOMATOES!), and Habenero red & orange mix seeds.
