Our Bloomin Friends January Fruitcake Swap

Ok, ladies. This is my first time hosting a swap so go easy on me! I am so grateful for being allowed to join this group earlier this year and have enjoyed giving and receiving. I may not always be available to post on here, but know that Im thinking of each of you during this holiday season.

The rules for this monthÂs swap are as follows: As you know, a fruitcake is something given at Christmastime and is generally not too well-received (with a few yummy exceptions!). Since we have all probably exchanged a few gifts over the month there is a chance that something you unwrapped has no room in your home or garden. If so, that is your personal fruitcake this month. Re-wrap it and send it along to your swap partner with your trades. Alternatively, you can send a real fruitcake! Imagine that a real fruitcake in a fruitcake swap! The rest of the swap goes along the lines of past trades with plants/seeds/bulbs whatever you want.

I hope the explanation is easy enough to follow. ItÂs basically a fun way to put to good use a gift or fruitcake you cannot keep or return.

The only deadline for sending is for your package to be shipped out in the month of January. Please post your delivery confirmation numbers here in the thread so your partner knows to expect a package. Sign-ups will be taken up until New YearÂs Day and the swap list will be posted by January 3rd.

Please post as to whether or not you will be participating to make it easier to identify whoÂs playing and who isnÂt.

thanks for the well wishes, my mother is doing pretty good, she goes back in for a check-up the 5th of january, think she might be overdoing it a bit, she still gets charley horse like pains running from her hip to her knees, supposedly this surgery was going to take care of the pain, but she was suppose to be taking it easy, not running around like she has been, but that couldn't be helped with the funeral and all.
would they really slap a fine on mellen for not renewing her license? here as long as you don't drive (or get caught driving) it is just a simple matter of retaking the test (or not so simple depending on how you look at it) our licenses are good for 6 years here. we go straight to jail if we get caught w/o a license. okay now that DH keeps bugging me and making me get up to do things for him I am going to tell a naughty story on him, looonnnggg time ago (1994 to be exact) we had just bought our Mustangs, well he was drag racing down main street against a camero, cop car came up behind them, DH turned off so they followed him, well he took them on a 20 minute chase through town, they lost him twice (so his cell mate told him, heard the whole chase on the radio of another car that he was being taken to jail in) he ran out of gas *snicker* (I can laugh about it now) there was rocks embedded between the wheels and tires, crazy man! he wound up with 16 tickets from that fiasco, lawyer got him off of all but 2 and he lost his license for 6 months, wound up getting pulled over for driving too fast (again, but this one was actually my fault, but we are telling stories on him not me) went straight to jail again.
but now I am proud to say each of us has totally clean records and enjoy cheap insurance rates, still have that mustang but we consider it our cruiser not our racer:)

carol, i believe we are at 32 now, with the new tina. a few have been inactive for some time. we average between 15 and 20 players per swap. i guess if we got to 50, it wouldn't be the end of the world, but it would be tough if they all joined at once LOL. your husband's first pet was a fly? that's so sad, it's funny.

sassy, i don't think you are boring at all, you constantly crack me up.

micke - does he know you told his story? i can't believe you go to jail for no license, that has to bite. my son lost his license, right after he brought his car. then the moron kept driving and getting caught, so they kept tacking on time. i think he gets it back come june, but he's been without it for almost 4 years. his own stupid hard-headed fault, totally screws him up for work purposes too.

does anyone ever feed their dogs fish/seafood? i know cats eat it, but my dogs love it. would it kill ya to know tonight we all had lobster LOL

laura, i'll check my seeds to see if i have any of those coreopsis. i'm almost sure, i have the sweet dreams growing, so if no seeds, i'll send ya a clump when spring hits.

so what is everyone doing for a new year celebration, anything special?

i think everyone needs to pull out their wallets, look at their license and determine the expiration date.

    mellen, where are you?

    be well everyone,
    maryanne

    HI Ladies..
Hey Maryanne, I saw your post in the clematis forum.. I think that the one is Josephine, the pink one.. I am no expert or anything. But she sure looks like my Josephine. Have you ever checked out the site http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/index.cfm it is usually pretty helpful.. You can type in things like 5 petals red anthers, and see what results look closest to yours.
I just decided on my top 10 picks this year for clems. My goal is 300, crazy I know but I am addicted!!! BAD. Plus here the slugs are so bad they ruined my hosta addiciton..
So roses and clems are my new thing for around the house. The wooded lot I need to clear a bit more before I start thinking about it.. But if you want any of the clems that I have, I am a pretty good spring rooter for summer giving.
    Sassy, your graphics kill me..
    Welcome new Tina..
Carol, the price of the bracelets will go down based on how many order, it's just a bugger to order 2 charms becuase they charge you more for them and then a bundle for shipping.. I also figured it with the largest heart clasp which cost 8.50 my cost. I am not charging anymore than the cost of the pieces themselves, so once I get a count and who wants what, the price will only go down, not up...
So far I have 5 request: yourself, Maryanne, Susie, Deb and Annie well and me, but I really don't count. So I will go on line to the gemstore and see what I can price them out. I think that other than just one that needs a magnetic clasp, they are all getting the heart lobster claw unless otherwise requested.
I was wondering if anyone has ever grown the morning glory Heavenly Blue? In the pictures it looks nearly Aqua, I am sure that this picture was enhanced but if you've grownit let me know how blue it really is, I am thinking of purchasing it from Jung seeds.

If there are any of you ladies who are also into clems, let me know if you are wanting me to root any of them for spring.. They usually take 2 months for firm roots, but using the serpentine method or parent growing, I can get about 4-5 babies off a good shoot. Same with my shrubs, spirea, Weigelia and ninebark.
I will also have a HUGE trumpet vine that has to go in the spring.. It is orange and nearly 5 feet tall.. But it has to go. I have 5 new clematis comin in the spring and that baby is outta here. I can send pics if anyone is interested, but if so let me know early, so that I can cut before new growth in the spring.. I can ship in a garmet box or something.. Its pretty big..
Anyway, I ahve laundry to fold I am going to my parents for the weekend, and I like to have the housework semi done before I leave, so I will be in and out checking on you all..
    Sassy and Maryanne behave.
Oh and Mayanne, my friend I decided has the winning name. Daisy Dunbar.. Love it... funny thing is for her it almost fits.
    Night ladies

    veeja - you want a newbie? You'll get a newbie. :)

llbean - I'm interested in taking that trumpet vine off your hands. What would you like in return? Please let me know!

earthlydelights - did someone say lobster?? I adore lobster! Never fed it to my pup. You may want to do a search before serving it to your dog. One never knows what's bad for our furry friends and what isn't.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh... such an early morning! Off from work yet foolishly scheduled a 9 a.m. racquetball game. Why didn't I set it for something more reasonable like 1 p.m.??? Whhhhyyyyyyyyyy???

    Have a great day, all!

    Good Morning Everyone,
    The names are too Funny!

    Luna,
Lol, Redneck serial killer. Though I always thought they came with two first names. so sorry about the kiddies! I'm sure everyone will be feeling better soon.

    Laura,
    Your mud wrestling story, lol!
The weather here was fairly mild through January last year. So I waited until the end of Jan. to put my stuff out. I did lots of perennials and they all came up at the end of March begining of April just fine. Some of the annuals I also put out then, like the one I know are cold hardy self seeders, but I kept putting them out until the end of March and they came up fine. I did about 80 varieties and 10 things did not sprout. Most of the 10 were iffy things like old seed or I had a feeling the trader didn't collected good seed.
I would like a bracelet too!

    Sassy,
Lol, I've never been in a Mud Wrestling contest. I was once in a tug-o-war contest down in Florida on Spring break. I was the anchor woman of the NY team though. I was yelling pull you know to get everone to tug together, and I get a glimpse of a camera! The news was there filming. I was so imbarrassed. But we did beat the other teams.

    Tina,
That's great that you lost the weight! I know I haven't lost any lately, only found some, lol.
That food lady's head!!!! The first time I saw her, I said to Gary, "She does have an enormous head, doesn't she?"
I made sauce last night and was thinking of you. I still have to write it all down.

    Susie,
Your name sounds like a southern belle porn star. You know like "Tammie Lafayette Does Dixie", lol!
I'm glad you had a good time with family and there were no "extra" men there!

    Shirley,
I think you're too young for senior games! You'll be kicking everyone's butt, and they won't want you to play anymore: )

    Annie,
That is wonderful about finding your friend!!

    Klickitat,
I did the Christmas Crackers with all the nephews. They like it. Of course anthing that is going to make a bang is a hit with boys.

    Michelle,
Glad your mom is doing good.
Your husband's story is funny but not really that unusual. Guys love to do stupid things with fast cars!

    Mellon,
Hiii! Hope you heard that as you raced by!

I guess your license doesn't expire on your birthday after like 4 years in other states? I'm not positve about the years, but it definitely has been your birthday for some time now. Sort of makes it harder to to forget.

    Maryanne,
I keep singing "cha cha cha chia" to Gary, lol. But I've got sprouts already! The patented chia sponge is working well.
I fed my dogs a piece of shrimp the other night, but not a whole lobster dinner! Those dogs should be in love with you by now!
I'm going out tomorrow with the realives to a nice restaurant, Shimshacks, that Julie would know. But on New year's Gary and I stay home. We make a gourmet meal though. Not sure what Gary wants to eat yet.

If I forgot anyone, sorry, got to go give the dogs their second feeding so they will stop bothering me. I should of fed them before I started typing!

    Hi again,
I forgot to respond to Carol! Freddie "The Fly" Dickerman, Lol! But no, that's not what I forgot: ) I remembered about the amount of swap members question. I think 50 is a big jump from the amount we have now. Maryanne said we have 32, a couple of those seem to be MIA, so lets say we have 30.(Do we have some kind of MIA rule?) How about a smaller jump to like 40? Maryanne said there seem to be 15-20 participants each month, so then maybe we would average about 25-30 people particpating in each month? To me too many more than that would be confusing, but I'm easy, if everyone feels different, it is ok with me : )

Hi Y'all, I'm missing your jokes and chatter but again my home phone is DEAD. This time the Phone Co says they can't come to work on it before Jan 4. Last time they never even came to the house after insisting I had to stay home to let them in. They called the next day and said the problem was in a cable "between our office and your street" GGGrrrrrrrrrr!!!
They won't even take the report without setting up a time when someone will be at the house. I don't remember the problem ever being inside but what are you going to do? Can't fight City Hall OR the Phone Co. They make the rules.
Anyway, I still want to be in but if my mailbox fills up the messages may be rejected. Thought I better let you know.

    Shwoooooshhhhhhhhhhhhhh - Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Mellennnnnnnnn

    and there she goessssssssssssssss! LoL

I wondered what that was that went by my house so fast. LMBO

My sympathies for all the sick babies :-(
    Well wishes

Sassy - your images just crack me up!

Laura - I want a bracelet. Any clasp will do!

Maryanne - Never had lobster. Never thought it looked all that appealing until a couple of nights ago when I watched Emeril make it...yummyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I just don't want to have to kill the poor thing :-(.

Remy - I think I also may have had help with the weight because I have been sick for almost a month :-(. I've ran a fever of 101 for 22 days. I've still done pretty much everything I always do (eat, shop, eat, eat again, LoL)
What kind of sauce did you make? Your meat sauce? My fmily will just eat that up!

Will catch up with everyone when I have a bit more time to sit and chat :-)

    Sending hugs to you all

Okay, I'm here and LEGAL again. Sassy, your cat in uniform sent me underground. LOLOL Actually, I was not charged a fine, no nothing. Didn't even blink an eye. Go figure, huh? I went to Marshalltown, Tina, so I could also do some shopping. When I got there, I went to get my insurance card in the glove box and guess what? Yep! Even more illegal. So waited til yesterday WITH the insurance paper this time. Went in, took the test, did the driving, passed both with flying colors. Gave me a new license for 5 years!!! GAAAHHHHHHHH!!!! Now tell me, will 'ya. How am I gonna remember in 5 years????? When I left I gave that new card a great big 'ol kiss! I still don't FEEL legal yet, though. BTW, in all of my years of driving, I have never had a ticket, been in an accident, nor ever been pulled over. I have been VERY lucky. Thank you all for your offers to start a fund to get me out of DMV jail, etc. You ladies are too, too funny! I'm going to have to let Jim read this. ALSO, I started talking plants with the police lady who checked my driving. Told her about a sale going on at Theisen's there in town. The weather has been so nice, I told her she could still plant bulbs, and they still had bags of 35 bulbs of daffs, etc. that were $9.50 for 75% off. She hadn't thought of planting bulbs yet. So she thought she would go check it out. So you see what our love of gardening can spread the cheer? I was only marked off for one thing. I forgot GLANCE OVER MY SHOULDER when I changed lanes. Okay, now, in April 2011, will somebody please remind me to renew my license?

Annie, wonderful, wonderful to have found your friend and be able to reconnect with her. I bet the years between will just fall away, and you will have so much to share.

Jenell, dear lady, how are you and the kids? My heart goes out to you. Take care.

Beans, Great mud story-or was it a "story?" Your work stories sound like the ones my sister tells. Unbelieveable some of them are. You both could make money writing a book, I think. Start taking notes!

Hey, all you close to Iowa/Iowa ladies. Are you lovin' this weather or what? Yesterday it was 50! Unheard of, almost. This is reminding me more of Missouri weather than Iowa. I'm not knocking it, though. Looks like the next big storm will be rain again. Maybe lots of it, too. God is replenishing us for next year's growing season.

Shirley-Only 55! Not too far behind you. You go on those sports, girl! Wish I could still participate. LOVED them in my earlier(not younger lol)years.

Carol-You're the only clean one around here? Says you! Glad I have my feet off the floor. LOL First of all, you wouldn't be without your D_ P_ _ _ S. Who used to stick out their totally hairy leg in the wind to make the mailman/boy stop at their mailbox? Huh? Need I go on?

Michelle-Sounds like your mom is doing better. Good! Keep us posted, okay?

Remy/Rummmy-Yes, our licenses DO expire on our BD's. It just happens to be the last thing I think about--looking at my license. Plus BD's at school with my lady friends/teachers and the students is always quite the celebration so thoughts are elsewhere. I'll ask them to remind me, too.

Beth--Don't 'ya just love bureaucracy? People can always pass the blame. Too bad you can't go speak to someone "in person." I think in small town Iowa, it is easier to do, maybe? Trust it all will work out.

I vote NO to 50 members. WAAAAAAYYYYY too many for my poor brain to remember. I really think 35-40 should be the ABSOLUTE max. And no more after that. Please? Around 35--which would be a few more than right now, I believe, would make a nice size group without getting so big that we don't know each other. Looks like probably 18 this month. We probably would have had more(maybe 5 or 6?) than that, but we don't due to it being a busy time of year. That gets us up between 20-25 which is nice sized. Again, I would vote for any number between 35 and 40 with NO MORE lifting the maximum limit of members.

Our week-end plans are to go to my parents Saturday and come back home on Tuesday. My sister and nephew from Texas are flying in late this evening. I can hardly wait to see them again. I miss them soo much! She is also bringing along her BF which will be nice. We met him this summer when we drove down to visit her. He will be meeting the other sisters and their families.

Again, thanks ladies for your offers of the fundraising, nail file, etc. I always laugh whenever I come here. What a group we are. Happy New Year! Love to all of you. Mellen no longer the Felon

Oh darn't it, you mean we can't call you Felon Mellon anymore? That just ain't right! lol Sooooooo happy for you that you didn't have to pay a fine, I thought that place fined everything!

Laura, I would like my mine to have the magnetic clasp please, I have CSS syndrome, lol

Tina, omg girl! You must try some lobster! I'd eat it until I got sick as a dog! lol I love it, love it! I did the 'cooking the live lobster' not for me, just give me lobster tails and I'll make them melt in your mouth. The others just too messy and not worth the trouble to me. jmo

Whats this about Carol being clean? Since when? She musta
(is that a word?) changed her depends, about time. Stickers are fallin' off everywhere!

Beth, I sent you an email, so if you don't get it after they get you straight let me know and I'll re-send.

Klick....did you get an email from me? Just say yes or no, I may need to re-send....

Ok, I'm with Klick & Felon Mellon (OK! last time!) I have a hard enough time trying to respond to everyone now, especially if you get behind on posts, but I'm with you girls, whatever the group decides.

Well I'm off to get more boxes packed, jeezzzz I'll never be ready before time to more.... Check on you girls later!

oh mellen, so wonderful that you are back with us. did you like your new screen name...felon? i don't think i would ever want to take the driver test over again.

beth, sorry to hear about your phone troubles. sure hope it gets resolved soon.

klick, no problem with the lobster. onions, especially raw, are toxic to dogs. however, with castor beans, they say they can kill ya, when we had the dog from hell, he ate some beans. i thought he was a goner. he puked several times, was out of it for several hours and then went back to his horrible self. i thought nothing would ever kill him. then my neighbors took that dog as a pet because my son and his #$@%^ left it and he wasn't for me. next thing i knew, they put him down because he bit a neighbor and they have something filed against them if ever their animals bite again (they used to have cujo as a pet - who bit no less than 17 people/animals). they have to have a rider on their insurance policy and all that, so they thought it was easier. heck, i would have taken him back had i known. anyway, lobster is okay and they didn't have an entire one and i figured they love fish, why not let them try it. my friend's husband told me i feed my dogs better than his wife feeds their family.

sassy, how are your settings? LOL did they check out alright?

    remy, i call that gravy!

mellen, how nice all that family time. our weather has been really splendid as well. rain is coming though.

i don't think we will ever reach 50 members, i think carol was going on a recruiting mission, but she's calmed down today. she's no longer passing out flyers. she's staying "clean" yeah right! if we did bring in 5 to 10 more in the next few months, we are still staying a small, comfortable group. i don't know if amy has been in touch with anyone, but she hasn't played since september and mail comes back as undeliverable. marhsa's last swap was september and we never hear from her either. i am not certain what happened to char/faithinfrogs, she popped in around the end of october, but that's been it. i don't even see her on the boards anymore. jeanette/angel is on hiatus. she let us know that she did not want to leave the group and would be back. maureen/irishrose, i don't know if she's still with us or not. i recall an email saying she was leaving, then a post saying she would be back, but nothing since then. everyone else has been active - if not with swapping, at least with some chatter.

as it stands, this is how we faired for the year with players for each month's swap
    april - 16
    may - 15
    june - 8
    july - 16
    august - 6
    september - 19
    october - 23
    november - 7
    december - 22

so, i was off, not surprising, my math skills stink. we are not averaging 15 - 20 players, rather 14.5 if you want to get technical about it. if we keep the player list to 40 members and not beyond that, we will maintain manageable swap partners and not lose the integrity of our group.

april, may and july are listed to be hosted by amy, char nad maureen, respectively. if any substitutions are to be made, laura; jeanne; beth; new tina; trish; dizz and susan/giver have yet to host a swap in this group.

omg, M&Ms come in dark chocolate. they are delish!

You can just call me T2 if you want. Or Louise. Is there a Louise already here?

Fish are easier to keep as pets. Generally speaking, they don't get you sued. I've never had to put one down...well, I take that back. I did have to put one down the toilet once. It died. I'm not a good fish-sitter. Don't ask me to sit your fish...

Stuffed animals are good too. Or a deer-head over your mantle. They won't hurt anyone...well, unless the thing falls off an clobbers your guest...that could cause a problem...

Musta. Yup, last I knew it was. Musta, shoulda, coulda, woulda, hafta, betta, afta, eva...yeppers, it sure is!

Annie-Yes I did get my license...only had to take the eye test and those darn road signs test. I was kinda worried about the eye test...I had lasik eye surgery 4 years ago and the age is catching up with my eyes again. Some days I see great and then one morning I wake up and can't see that great close up...May have to get some glasses for reading. At least they won't be coke bottle lenses though. When I went to be tested for the lasik surgery I was the talk of the office. I had the worst vision they had ever seen. Couldn't even find my car without contacts in.

Mellen-I will try and remind you about your license as we both will need them in 5 years. That is if my memory don't go South.

Remy-Yes just what I want to hear...win..win..win for me.
It will probably be the other way around. It would be really embarrasing for me if a 70 or 80 year old stomps me in some of those sports...Will let you know how they turn out. I get to join in March. I do know they are adding softball and basketball to the sports in 2007.

Sassy-Sweetie..you are definetely not boring...full of life and its very fun to read your posts and see all your cute graphics.

Klickitat-Hate to be out of your swap in January but hope to get in on Februarys, that is if I get rid of these carpenters. They are draining my bank account. I was planning on paying around $5,000.00 for a roof over my deck. WELL I have more than that in the labor and they still don't have it done. One of the guys just told my DH he would have 40 hours in this week by noon Sat. (They are going to work tomorrow). Now he didn't work except Wed. Thurs. and Fri so how in the heck does he have almost 40 hours in. It gets dark at 6:00 p.m. I told DH I smell a rat. He would have to have worked 12 hour days to get that much time in and its not possible with it getting dark so early.

T2-From NH..I visited NH last year and loved it. Welcome

Earthly, Annie, and any other iris lovers-I may get some more $1.00 named iris deals this year. My Aunt who sold some of hers for $1.00 fell and broke her hip. I'm guessing her 3 DD's will really try and get rid of all her flowers this next year so she want be tempted to work in them. It's sad to get to that point in our lives but it is best for her.

Susie-Thinking of you and so pleased each time I see your posts. We are praying for good health for you in 2007.

Beth-Hope you get your phone back on soon.

    Hey all,
Just found a few minutes to check in. Happy Markeeta would be my porn star name.
Welcome T2!! Good to see you here!
Sassy, I just love your graphics!! Too funny!
Carol, was that your De_-*ds squishing? What's this about "totally hairy legs" and the mailman???????

I'd be glad to host a month if anyone can't take theirs.

Abby Cat (abby-normal) fell into the bathtub with me tonight. All wet from the neck down. She didn't care for it and she doesn't like the blow dryer either. LOL! It WAS funny, since she didn't claw me from head to toe. Poor Miss Kitty had to help her bathe properly after all that. Once all that was done, they piled on the couch with DH for a nap - and he calls them MY cats! LOL! For all the laughs, these cats are worth their weight in aluminum foil!
    Have a super New Year's celebration y'all!

    ~~ Good day to all
~~I am sorry i have to back out of this months swap. I know i said i would play, but my mom has taken a sudden turn for the worse, and ended up in the hospital on Christmas day, and has been in ICU since then. She has somehow gotten a blot clot/blockage on her right foot, it is all purple/cold/has no feeling. The doctors are trying some pretty aggresive treatments, to un-do the clots, even balloon type things in her veins to open them up, this all happened so suddenly, it was just there. The doctors say if the meds dont work in the next few days, they need to consider amputation of the foot just above the ankle. .. Please ladies say some prayers for my mom, she is 81, and has had MS since she was 16, even though she can no longer walk, the thought of her losing her foot, just terrifies me.
~~ So i am sorry to have to sit out this month, i was really looking forward to playing, everyone here is so much fun,and i really love the swaps. But need to see what happens with mom.
My love and best wishes for a great new year fo us all. :)

Oh Trish, I've already said a prayer for your mother and for you. So much to deal with, sweet lady. Just know that there will be many prayers from this group. Swaps are nothing when it comes to taking care of family. Let us know how things go, okay?

Susann, Squish??? Ewwww...LMBO. When she claimed to be the only "clean" one in the group, I just could NOT let that comment pass. She can fill you in about the hairy legs and the mailman.(trying to "bribe" a government worker)

This afternoon DH and I will be going to my parents until Tuesday. Can't wait to see my sister and nephew from TX. I heard that their plane was 3 hours late leaving Austin(where they live) so they didn't get into Minneapolis til midnight. So didn't get to my parents til 3:30 this morning-rented a car and drove there. I will try to get on Mom's computer there to see what continues(the saaga) to go on here even though my nephew will be hogging it. He is a computer addict/geek--said with much love. Being the auntie, though, I will KICK HIM OFF! Except he is now taller than me. Maybe I will "convince" him another way, hmmmm?

    Happy trails...Mary Ellen/Mellen

T2 welcome! My mothers husband has family that live in NH, and that is where he is from (do you have that cool accent?) she rattled off the cities they live in and said she know exactly where you are at, ahhh to live vicariously (sp?) through my mother, she used to travel a lot and will again as soon as her back is healed, they go to Boston, Florida, Washington and NH. my stepdad has family living all over the place. me well I get to go take care of the farm while thay are travelling, good trade off for me, I am a major homebody, we went to orlando last year for a week for vacation and it killed me to be away from the house that long! I would much rather go spend a couple of days in Branson MO. and then DRIVE home. hated the airplane really, really bad, we had a lot of turbulence and I just knew we was going to crash! Kids took to it like they had been doing it all their lives. Travis is talking about going to California next year, he better save up gas money or leave me at home:)
and on the fast driving thing, he has drove like a grandpa ever since he went through that mess, I joke that the only reason our mustang still drives like a dream with over 250,000 miles on it is cause I get it out and blow the cobwebs out of it, yes I get up to speed as fast as I can then I drive at exactly the speed limit, okay maybe 5 over sometimes 10...... been lucky haven't got caught:) I like to speed shift can't help myself, luckier still that Missouri drivers are all crazy maniacs and I actually drive safe compared to the rest of those wackos
porn names??? guess I didn't read all the posts good enough, I will take meesh, a nickname another gwer has given me.
trish, I am sooo sorry I will be praying my little heart out for you, if she does lose her foot at least you still have her, my grandma had diabeties and she started out losing her toes, then her eyesight, then they told us they was going to have to remove her other foot, this is the women who was a gardening expert, think it really broke her spirit not being able to be out amongst her flowers, I got everything I knew from her, I still have a huge peony bush that was hers, LLbean, those eyes of peony I traded you are from her bush! so it is very much a heirloom, I hope it does well for you, I know she is up there loving me being in this group, it would of been right up her alley, she used to drive around with a shovel and a bucket of water digging up wildflowers from the ditches, I have tried that, but none of the wildflowers I have transplanted that way have grew for me, plus I think it may be somewhat illegal now, lol!!!
mellon wish you lived close to me, I have a extra computer you could of used while your nephew was visiting, that way you wouldn't have to share!
dizzydaffodil, my mother has a blue russian kitty that actually LIKES water, she jumped in the washing machine one time when I had the lid up and water running, looked like she was taking a shower so funny! and you have to be sure to keep the shower door closed or she will take a shower too, goofiest cat I have ever seen!
brittneysgran, I AM A IRIS LOVER, I AM A IRIS LOVER!! I am way interested!
wait a second.... I am interested in any flowers, lol!!
llbean, did the slugs eat all your hostas? I am so sorry to hear that, the ones you traded me were doing really well by the end of the season, hopefully they will come up just as good, I have a major hosta addiction going on right now:)
T2, I have put a lot of fish down the tolit as well, and actually I got to the point were when they acted sick, bye bye!
hey I haven't hosted a swap yet, if you end up with a month without a host I would be glad too, although... someone would have to teach me how to post the graphic (this coming from a persons whos mother has a graphic arts degree)

Hi ladies.. Quick peek from me..
Remy, I saw that you have tomato seeds and I would love some if they are beef steak? Max loves eating fresh tomato's with salt (like an apple).
Mellen~ Glad your not jail bait.. You know what they say about nice girls in jail.

Birthday wishes to all those December B-days.
    Michelle~
No they have not ate all my hosta, but My hosta always look nice in the beginning then after a few weeks they look like crap, and I have them all in a side bed by the house where there is all shade. So I decided that this year I am going to try to trade some out for heuchera. The slugs don't like the leaves. THey were so bad they even ate some of my fancy lungwort. Ticked me off. I cna't wait to see the peony you sent me hopefully they will bloom this year.
Prayers to Trish and her family. I will put you on our prayer list at church tomorrow.
If the number for the swap is uneven I can take an extra partner to swap with. Just let me know!!!
I know that I am a newbie still, but let me just put in my 2 cents. I joined two groups when I joined this one and the other one is HUGE. I rarely post in it because it is so big, I am sorda disappointed that I joined the other LARGER group because it is so big, and then there was all this personal crap going on. I mean not that I didn't care, but really I didn't care.
I love you ladies, because I immediatley felt like "family" and I talk about you all like you are my family. I have no siblings, and I feel so welcome by all of you. No one here so far seems to get hurt or upset if you fail to mention them,no one here is mean or pointed (in a bad way).. I like the size. If it got to much bigger I am afarid it would be hard to keep up. I like it when I can know something about all of you personally, I can send gifts based on things that I read or that you posted because I feel like I know you a bit. If it got much bigger I am scared we would loose that.

Earthly, Thanks for being such a good person. Thanks for breaking me in adn showing me the real ropes. Enough said.
Well, I have a serious sinus headache so off to the med. cupboard and then off to sleep.

Happy New year to the finest bunch of ladies that I have met .

micke, you don't just pick a name, you take the name of your first pet and the name of the first street you lived on, then you get your "porn name". so try again. i have a friend michelle, we call her miche - (sounds like mishy).

carol is now squishing in her pants. what will we come to next? gross. that reminds me, i'll never tell you my tupperware story!

remy, what is gary cooking for tomorrow night?

i've been housecleaning. i get this way at the end of each year. i go through the house like a madwoman so i start the new year off "clean" (unlike carol).

i'm a tad excited, the g-babe is coming tomorrow for an overnight. i'll get to bring in the new year with someone very special! this is a real treat for me, of late, the mutha has been a real $#@%$, so i hardly ever get to see her or spend any time with her.

so far micke and dizz have made an offer to host swaps if we need them - thank you!

mellen, i was so ready to show carol's hairy legs to get you out of your troubles. (remember all the crazy hair leg stuff? we were strange back then too!) who is bertha?

    laura, xoxoxoxo

shirley, i will be so happy if that iris event should occur again. what is an eon marker?

annie, i just wanted you to know again that iI love those plant tags you sent me. i'm going to take your suggestion and put the name on the inside as well.

our weather is still somewhat fall-like. rain is coming though. i have some bulbs to get in the ground and need to do it just in case we get zapped overnight with winter.

trish, prayers to you and for your mother. these things just happen, so suddenly. stay strong and know we care. if i lived closer, i'd lend a hand in some way or another. right now the best i can do is keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and i too will have you placed on the prayer list. trish, we appreciate that you notified that you had to back out of this month's swap, but no need to apologize - your family takes priority. i think i speak for everyone, we are just thrilled that you stayed with us, swapping or not. there are 11 more swaps to come in the new year and i'm sure you'll get right back into it. jules hasn't assigned yet, but even if she had, adjustments could have been made. annie already offered to jump in if there was a need, i would do it as well and laura has just offered to take two people. i'm certain others would make that same offer should the need arise.

shirley, i plan on having that surgery this year. my eyes have gotten progressively worse in the last couple of years. i am looking for a miracle, not days of not being able to see! as for your contractors, why aren't they charging per the job, as opposed to an hourly rate? i'd be on their butt from sun-up to sun-down and making sure they were working as they said. you really took on a big project. i'll keep my fingers crossed that it all works out.

dizz, too cute about the cat. i could picture it. i didn't think cats liked water too much.

theresa, it was good to see you post on the graphic thread. cute dog by the way. were you affected at all by the harsh weather that hit florida around christmas? wondering house susan is doing, if she was in its path.

carol, did the dogs go yet?

annie, how is your sister doing? is she feeling any better?

nice euology's for gerry ford. did anyone watch the funeral coverage? God bless Mrs., she's up there in age and health and she just looked so frail and yet so dignified.

well, back to my housework. would rather be doing anything else but housework, but i've come to learn it just doesn't do it itself.

    goodnight all, be well

    Hi all,
I went out with my relatives last night for Christmas and had a very nice time. My grandma got me a very nice new camera! (Well it was purchased be someone else for her to give to me.)It is an Olympus SP-320. It has so many features it has an advanced manual cd-rom that I will have to watch! The computer doesn't want to recognize the camera, so Gary is trying to get new Windows software to correct the problem. Hope he can fix it soon.
I also got an Aerogarden from my Godmother, the same thing Gary bought for me that is on backorder, lol. Everyone thinks I want the dang thing!
Boy, a lot was written since the last time I posted!

I think T2 was doing an impression of her own New England/ New Hampshire accent making fun of herself, no?

    Trish,
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. You take care of her. There will always be another swap: )

    Tina,
I didn't realize you had such a long going fever! Do you still have it? Yes I made meat sauce.

    Maryanne,
It is strange how people near NYC and Philadephia call it gravy. Around here it is sauce. Sort of like soda pop is pop here and it is soda there. A soda here means an ice cream soda.
Are you related to my brother? lol. He is a crazed record keeper! When he was the coach of my softball team, he kept all kinds of crazy stats, and my friends were like what is wrong with that man, lol! Though he did get us from last place to first place in a couple years.
Gary just went food shopping. I don't know what he'll bring home. He did make me French toast for breakfast: )

    Mellon,
Glad to see nothing happened except a little shopping: )
Hope you are having a nice time with relatives.
What is this about hairy legs and mailmen? lol.

    Sassy,
    Love that cartoon!

    Shirley,
If some 80 year old kicks your butt, I want to hear all about it! : ) lol!
One of Gary's best friend's parents have a big iris garden and have been majorly involved in the local iris society for years, but now he just old us his father is doing poorly and his mother though better can't do all that work! It is sad to think of the garden not being taken care of or disappearing.

    Michele,
I dirve like you! I want to go from 0-60 in a couple seconds, but then I won't exceed 10mph over the speed limit! Gary says I drive like my father who was a real drag racer, lol!

    Laura,
I got beefsteaks to little ones, red, yellow and every other color! lol. I have, I hate to admit this, over 200 varieties. I can send you some nice ones that make bigger tomatoes.

    Susie,
I'm starting to not like the rain instead of snow! Many of my bubls are coming up! I hate to admit it, I want winter.
    Talk to you all later!

I meant no offense...if one reads it the way I wrote it, then one would 'hear' the accent that evidently people say New Englanders have. There was no offense meant, and none should have been taken. I was 'talking' the way you'd hear me if you were actually listening to me.

I think T2 was doing an impression of her own New England/ New Hampshire accent making fun of herself, no?
    Remy got it...

remy, don't forget me for some tomato seeds. different, yellow, paste...anything really. i don't know if you ever got that updated email from me, but i'm open to anything. when i was in maryland many years back for a training program, i asked for a root beer soda. the girl came back asking me what kind of ice cream i wanted in it. i had to remember to say pop! some places call all types of soda/pop coca cola no matter what the flavor is. i was in a class with people from all over the united states and some were so annoyed there were no biscuits for breakfast and i remember thinking why anyone would want dinner rolls for breakfast, but to each his own, right? that vernors, which we can't get here, but it was up your way and my sister can get it mid-west. oh and remy, i'm wondering where the iris lady lives and should i bring my shovel LMAO

another beautiful day here. they were thinking of postponing the mummers parade tomorrow because of potential rain storms, but i heard it's still on. just for the record, i'll be sleeping through it! the costumes are pretty neat and all the clubs always outdo themselves one year to the next, but that annoying music. (no offense to mummers reading this, i'm entitled to my opinion)

sassy, your picture and mirror are beautiful. your old man has some great taste. how's the move coming along?

tina always has the vapors...i mean fever. give up the butts girl and you'll feel better!

klick, you are doing an excellent job! you should be so proud of yourself putting together your first swap! way to go!

hope everyone is well, happy new year eve

Just wanted to pop in today to Wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR, and not get so far behind posting. It is never my intention leave anyone out, but I know sometimes I'm guilty.

Trish, Im sorry to hear about your mom, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Shirley, please keep me posted about the iris, This time I will send you $ through pay-pal, heck with the snail mail.

Maryanne, I'm so glad you like the markers;I sure do,and must admit they are my favorites. Thank you for asking about sis,she is doing great, except for the medicine is playing havic with her blood sugar, and she is getting real tired of testing her blood 4 times daily, but she knows she has to do it. Oh and by the way, I've always thought gravy and sauce are two completly different things. Ok, don't mind me, I just finished up 24 hrs in two days, and I only have 50 more to go. Wait till I post in another couple days, you guys will wonder if I've been hitting the sauce! HEHE

Anyway, Happy New Year to everyone!

Earthly-The Eon markers are the metal ones that work so well for keeping the right names with your plants. They go deep into the soil and stay there, not much chance of being pushed out of the ground with the freezing and unthawing of the ground. I bought 750 last year and will need more for 2007 I'm sure. Yes do have the lasik eye surgery...it is wonderful...I take it for granted now but I love to wake up and be able to see the alarm clock, my cealing fan and all the things in the bedroom. I never had that luxury before the lasik. My Aunt had it done and she is in her late 70's and she loves it also. Contractors here have gotten greedy so they want paid by the hour and they take their sweet time doing the job. DH and myself both work so it's hard to know the hours they really work. I do know they even count their lunch time in as time worked. I have never worked for a Company that would pay you for lunch. I told DH he was in the wrong business.

Remy-Nice gifts you received.I will keep you posted when the senior games begin. Oh I agree it is very sad when you see someones beloved garden unattended. Have you ever watched someones clothesline. You never have to go inside their home but you know they have a new baby because you see the little boy or girl clothes hanging out there. Then the kids clothes get bigger when they start school and so on and so on. Then when they are elderly they have just the man and womans clothes hanging out there. Then one day only the womans will be hanging there and eventually none will be hanging there. Then the cycle starts all over again if a young couple buys the home. I don't even know who lives in some of the homes I see on my way to work but if they hang out clothes I know alot about the family and the same thing with the flower or vegetable gardens. Alot of the younger generation don't have clothesline or gardens but I prefer to have both.

Whew I'm sounding like Paul Harvey now...GOOD DAY

All these wonderful and positive comments on how I'm doing with this new swap, yet I've already managed to disappoint one of our members. :( A fabulous graphic was sent to me by one of us (don't know if she wants credit to her work) to be posted in the new thread and I completely forgot to insert it.

Would one of you gals be kind enough to be the first to post the image below for me as the first post in the new thread???

I know that at least one other of us would be VERY appreciative...
