Welcome to the Make New Friends Swap for December!
This group is open to EVERYONE....Newbie, Oldie or somewhere in the middle..we take them all.

Ms Fishys email: saddina@roadrunner.com (gardenweb email never arrives)
This month's theme:
Ornamental Beauties (mental beauties for short). (~.^)
Ok I hear the chuckles already, yes fishy may get a bit mental at times (just ask mr fishy), but there is a plan to all this! Were gonna be expanding a tradition my family has; every year the aunts, uncles, and grannies give an ornament on the gift packages. That was once the child moves out/is an adult, they have a collection started for their own tree. The fun part is the ornament has to *mean* something, example for my 21st year (last year you get an ornament as a "kid") my aunt gave me a stained glass cocktail ornament, or last year my son got a bowling ball, as his team took 3rd in his league that year). No stress, no fuss, no muss.

Dont celebrate Christmas? Thats ok we want you too! Just about every faith has some celebration in December, no particular faith? Heck we dont care its all in fun, just drop a line in your email to me letting me know if you dont want religious ornaments, and Ill pass along your preferences to your swap buddy. Personally Im so sick of little angel ornaments I gave away a box of them last year (*never* call something "cute", unless you want 20 of them the next year, to my granny)!

So heres the disclaimers.
First, per GW rules, you MUST be 18 (or celebrating an anniversary of that birthday) to participate.

Second, a FLAT RATE SIZED box. In trying to keep it fair, I want everyone to use the box SIZE as a guide. You are more than welcome to send parcel post, and use a plain box...but it MUST be the same size -or larger- as a flat rate box. I know you ladies all know how to pack a box by now, but I needed guidelines when I started, and new people would like some too. This is plenty of room for a gorgeous ornament, and a few "goodies" to tuck in.

Third, DELIVERY CONFIRMATION is a MUST. Again, this is only to protect YOU & YOUR PARTNER. And to help the hostess (me!) keep track of who has received and sent. Trust me...it is well worth the .65 cents!

Fourth, This is to have fun, no stress, no fuss. We take all comers, all kinds, a healthy sense of humor is a must here.
If you are someone who likes to peak in and read, please post a HELLO! We love meeting NEW FRIENDS! Come on in and visit with us awhile!

Sign ups are closed, partners have been posted! Please (Oldies and Newbies) sign up for our January Swap when it is posted!!!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

so what did ya end up with in snow?? i think we ended up with a few inches so far. but its STILL snowing!! LOL

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

It just started snowing here 30 minutes ago and we have an inch already. It has been very steady. No wind just a gentle snowfall. The heavy stuff is supposed to be tomorrow. I just read that some parts of Kansas got 12". How far from you is that? Is it west of you?

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

It's snowing here too, started last night (we are under a snow advisory). We have several inches on the ground so far! More to come tomorrow!

Deb

 o

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Debby,

Thank you so much for the wonderful Christmas Gifts you sent me! They are so wonderful! I love everything! Deb sent this amazing terra cotta blazing sun plaque, a very sweet Cardinal Ornament (Ohio's State Bird! I love watching them in the summer, we have a hubby and wife that do the craziest things together in our yard), an Old Williamsburg Vanilla scented candle, very pretty frosted snowflake tea light candle holders, a FULL WEEK!! fridge note jotter (I love these)! The sweetest Snowman bubble night light (my uncle had bubble lights on his tree when we were growing up, this brings back so many childhood memories for me), some wonderful Ghirardelli chocolate caramel squares and... MARTHA STEWART'S SPECIAL OCCASIONS BOOK! This is so amazing! I love Martha and this book has so many recipes and entertaining ideas! Oh my gosh Deb! You really outdid yourself! I love all of it! Thank you so much! You really made my day. Merry Christmas! I hope you have a wonderful Holiday with your family. You are so sweet and generous.

Love,
Tracy

Let it rain, Let it rain, let it rain!Christmas in Seattle.
I received a wonderful box from Karen today. It scared me when it arrived, it really rattled, so I was afraid something was broken. nothing was except for candy bag of hard candy rattling all around the box. first of all a cute personalized card, with candy cane.
a candlesence candle warmer
a beautiful wolf sock
a wolf shot glass
I love it when people care enough to find me a wolf.
mini blue and white light set
2 ghirarardelli candy bars , mint bliss & toffee interlude
bag of hard candies
I love it all thankyou for being so thoughtful
hugs carol

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Veeja, I think there is something else in the mini blue/white light box. (not lights) The wolf glass is a candle, but I suppose after its used up and cleaned out you could use it for a shot glass! lol Im glad you liked it.

Tracy, your gingerbread men traveled well, none were broken. They are all gone but mine, I'm saving it!

No snow in our forecast (yay! We still have ours from a few week ends ago, and that is enough!)

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Poor Carol, I don't think I could stand a winter full of rain! That was so sweet of Karen to send those wolves for you! The candy sounds yummy!

Karen, I am so happy they were intact. I was hoping and praying they wouldn't get banged around and be crumbs for you and the kids! I am chuckling because I have ours hiding. We poked holes in all their heads so we can make ornaments of them. I am waiting for the tree to go up so I can string them with ribbon.

Winter in Ohio

I thought I would share a few shots of the storm as it is coming in. These are color pictures, believe it or not! LOL! It is just starting to get windy. The kids were having a good time playing out there this morning. All traces of their antics have already been covered up. We have been getting dumped on since around 10:45. All the snow from yesterday was melted off by the rain we got last night so all of this is just from the last couple of hours.

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Sorry i've been so quiet, finals week & i'm ill to boot. They gave me some new pain meds and I went to sleep on Friday night ~1AM, and woke up on Sun 3pm. I asked hubby if he was checking on me (girl you were fine, I could hear you snoring from the kitchen). I'm still a lil groggy, but i had to eat.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Fishy - mine was sent! I think on Thursday, but I'd have to go to the last thread to know for sure. Either way, it's definitely been sent! I checked on the DC number yesterday and it still just said the po has been electronically identified (I hate it when it says that.) I'll check it again and let you know what it says.
Becki

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Nope, I think you got it all Miss Fishy! How are you doing? Been busy?

Becki, Are you feeling any better? I hope so! How's the weather over there? Are you snowed in?

 o
Wow!

I think we were all typing at the same time! Yep, I'm feeling better - I am so sorry to hear you are so sick, Fishy! You poor thing! I hope you feel much better VERY soon!

I just checked and your box is in CA, so I assume you should get it tomorrow. I hope so, at least!!

That's quite the snow you're getting Tracy! I'm glad the kids had so much fun in it this morning! My kids always love the snow!!

I'm watching a couple things on ebay I hope to win tonight - gameboy games. The boys SO wanted a Wii for Christmas, but we just can't do that right now. (Not like we could get one right now anyway.) But, used games on ebay we can afford. So, they will just have to live with their Game Cube and Gameboys, with some new (well, mostly used) games for them. I think they'll be happy with that. Hope so!

I hope everyone is doing well! Stay safe and warm!

Hugs!
Becki

 o
Howdy

I think the kids will be very happy with their games, Becki. Our kids always want the latest and greatest and even though they rarely get it they are always happy on Christmas morning with what Santa brings. It's funny because I think immediately after the unwrapping is finished the wish list is usually forgotten.

I was out shopping tonight to try to finish everything up. The weather was miserable so the stores were EMPTY! Yay! I still have more to do since I got behind with the sick kids, but now that they are healthy again I am back into Christmas mode. Thank goodness. I am glad you are feeling better Becki!

Fishy, I am sorry you're sick! UGH! Bad timing! I hope you feel better dear. That was one heck of a sleep. Good for you. I hope you aren't in too much pain. Take care of yourself.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Tracy - I think the same about the kids loving whatever Santa brings! Dave was at our local farm store on Friday, and they told him they were having a BIG toy sale on Saturday. We were so excited to get there and finish up most of our shopping. Well, we didn't see any big sale, so we asked someone, and he said it started today. Knowing they were going to have a lot of things on really good sale, we got there just shortly after they opened today. Things didn't look much different. We asked someone and they said they didn't have everything ready yet, so definitely tomorrow. Ugh! So, somehow I have to go back tomorrow and somehow not have Lily with me! Hopefully Dave will be able to take some time away from working to watch her. Otherwise it will be late in the day, and some of the stuff we wanted might be gone. Oh, well! It'll work out!

I need to do some MAJOR baking tomorrow too!!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Kal, you were right, I read your post then ran to get mini light box. not only did this lady get me wolves, but a super cute teddy bear ornament, which I collect also. I just love it. thankyou for enlightening me.I don't know when I would have opened that box. you outdid yourself. thankyou soooo much. hugs happy carol

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Good Evening All;
We woke to about four inches of snow and blizzard conditions today. It was supposed to clear up by afternoon but as far as I can tell it is still snowing. DH went out and cleared the driveway about two o'clock and while that looks like an exercise in futility, it will be easier to clear tomorrow because he did. I am guessing we will have a foot when it all settles. It was so cold out there (16 degrees) and he was frozen when he came in. He overexposed his hands to cold as a child and now has a sensitivity to cold. He was miserable. We had some soup and then went out on the back porch and got in the hot tub. It is really neat to be in a storm and in hot water. Of course, the electric bill came yesterday and keeping the hot tub going in the dead of winter here is very expensive. I think the next warm day we will close it for the winter. With the price of oil three times what it was three years ago, we cannot afford the luxury.
I hope everyone has a great holiday. I have finished my shopping and now just need everything to show up so I can wrap it.
Sorry to hear about the illnesses. I also had a bout with broncitis but I am on the mend. Be back soon to visit.

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

I am hoping that everyone that is ill gets to feeling better quickly!

Fishy, I hope you take care of yourself and hopefully all finals are overwith!

I am mailing out Shady's box tomorrow, of course I am always the last one shipping out! One day I am going to be the first!!!!

OHHH Diene that just sounds painful for your DH! We have yet to get in our Jac. this season but then also we don't get snow. I forget that we have it out there except for in the summer when I lay in it without the heat on (mini pool)

I hope ya'll that are in the midst of these storms and cold weather stay warm. It is supposed to get to 32 here tonight but then it was to last night also and didn't. We will see. I do know that the cold wind has been dry lately because my lips and face are chapping.

Ya'll have a great warm evening.

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hi, girls! Everyone's so quiet today!! Wow! Everybody must be plenty busy like me! I finished up my online shopping today - I know, I'm cuttin' it close, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!! Still need to do some more actual store shopping, but I'd say for the most part, I'm finished. Now, I just have lots of baking to do! I've got half of my holiday orders (no, not very many, but it's a bit time consuming right now) shipped today, and the rest will go out tomorrow. I've been doing a good deal of cleaning today - it felt good to get some major cleaning accomplished! I've got lots more to do, but thought I would pop on here real quicly, while I am waiting on the oven to finish warming up before I throw in our roast for supper! I hope all of you are having great days, and getting done everything you need to do!!!!

Hugs!

busy busy!

Hi everyone! I have had a super busy day. I finished my Christmas shopping for the kiddos and then had a wake to attend this evening. I came home to my poor little Emma sick with the stomach flu. She has never had it before and is very sad. She finally just fell asleep in the living room with Daddy.

Becki, great job getting those orders out. Nearly to the finish line! Yay! I have my party on Friday. I need to pick up the groceries on Wednesday and get to work. Weeeeee! Please pray that we are done with illness for a long while!

Ok, It's offical. I'm a bad bunny.
Not only did I forget Deb's birthday...but I've gone and forgot Mama Diene's birthday, too. Uh-Oh. I'll go hide my nose in the corner right now.
But I will leave you with this snazzy Birthday greeting and my humblest apologies. :O)

Still groggy, I'm allergic to novacane, so I have to be driven to Loma Linda, anesthatized, and oral surgery done to repair the tooth (every single filling has to be done this way). A filling in my molar was cracked, and just crumbled into grit on friday afternoon, and i've been on viccodine since. I've finals wens & thurs, and am on meds till then.

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Fishy - I hope things get SO much better for you! This really stinks, especially with finals and the holidays!

Happy Birthday a little late to Deb and Diene! I am sorry I didn't realize it yesterday, or I would have said it then! I hope you both had a wonderful day!!

Good to see you Melissa! How is the weather down there now? Has it calmed down?

Tracy - I am so sorry that Emma has the flu now too! It is so hard to see those little ones go through it. As they get bigger it stinks too, but when they are little it's so hard! I'm thinking of you! Espeically with your big party coming up! I know you'll do great! I just hope that little Emma lets you work, so you aren't going sleepless the next several nights!! : )

I hope your lips and face are doing better, Pixie! That's never fun! Are you still doing lots of baking? Boy, wouldn't it be fun if we could all get together and bake! Okay, and trade seeds and plants, and shop, and do needlework, and just hang out??!! What fun we could have! : )

Hope everyone has a great day today! Looks like another crazy busy one here, with lots of baking today and hopefully some more cleaning (because around here, a clean house makes for a happy husband!)

Hugs,
Becki

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hey ladies, Emma finally stopped getting sick around 2am last night. She is eating toast and ginger ale with enthusiasm this morning. Thank goodness! Thank you for all the good wishes! I really appreciate it!!!!!

Michele, If you look on the toolbar on the top of your internet page you will see a box or word somewhere that says "TOOLS". Click on that if you have the same problem again and then click on "Internet Options". Then you will see the section in the "General Tab" that says "Browsing History" or "Cookies". Then you can click on delete to get rid of the cookies that are clogging up your filters. It may be slightly different on your Vista but similar enough for you to be able to find.

Diene and Debby,
What fun and exciting things did you do for your birthday? Any special gifts? I would love to hear some fun details!

Tracy

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

well it was different when i downloaded the firefox thing. thats whats throwing me!! but i'll ask hubby to show me!! LOL it looks all funny to me!! LOL and happy birthday "girls" LOL girls with wisdom :'))
hubby lost the tax money order so far. crazy man!! i know he'll find it!! he alsways does. its always something just enough to get your heart pumping, ya know. then when your totally freaking, then you find what your looking for!! LOL
he found it!! LOL in the bills file!! LOL see i knew it. LOL

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Michelle, with vista (I have Vista) on the right hand side of the tool bar it says Tools, if you click on that then at the bottom it says internet options click on that also, it gives ya the option to delete history, cookies, and three other things singly or you can do it all at once, if you do them all then you will have to re-log into anything that you had your password saved for (like GW) but then you can click the save again. It does clear up your cookie space and deletes all the history that takes up space also.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Fishy - I checked the DC # today, and it says your package was attempted to be delivered and a notice was left. Just wanted to let you know it's trying to get to you! I hope you are doing okay! Finals start tomorrow, right? Good luck with them! I'm pullin' for you!!!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hi everyone, I hate to be a grinch BUTTT... I can now understand why Christmas Dinner comes but once a year (note I said Dinner). After everyone is through baking pastries, cookies and breads, making candies of various types, canning all kinds of specialties and doing normal everyday cooking for their family Christmas Dinner doesn't sound as appetizing as it did in June! I still have more baking to do and more candies to make but just thinking about that tonight is making my tummy grumble in defense. LOL ok enough grumbling.

I made sausage balls this evening last, should have made them first cause I snacked so much on everything else I was baking that by the time I got to the sausage balls my tummy was mixed up and they just really put it over the top! OOOPS thats not supposed to be a grumble! They are yummy though.

Gonna go see what else I can snack on and then look for the tums.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

oh my poor pixie!! i'm so sorry!! these days' i keep tums and lots of salt free crackers on hand!! very much lots of them on hand!! i hope your tummy gets better!!
we went and looked for a chain saw so we could cut up the branches smaller. once we get them down. LOL
but the taxes are paid!! LOL so i'm happy!! and now i can relax!! LOL oh yah! it was all crazy in topeka today!! you would not believe it!! i'm with pixie!! but for different reasons!! LOL hope everyone had a great day!!

 o
holiday shopping done & Box day

Some of the ladies I work with, chipped in and reserved a cabin for mr fishy and I for the 26-27th, as a xmas gift (beats the "best teacher mugs" and apple ornaments I usually get).

My teachers each are getting a bath & body works set in the scents they already use (yes I spend time in Nov/Dec asking if I can "borrow some lotion" while in thier classes, so I know what to get who), then I spend some time at the mall, sniffing lotions to see what it closest to what they wear/use. Boy you start to feel like a nut sniffing bottles for what "smells" like the admin in the lobby (absoloutly everyone right down to the interns get a basket/bag of goodies) The night janitor gets a big bar of thier men's soap (I don't think he wants to smell like lemon verbina.... just a hunch). I got to give out holiday bonuses this year, so those will be tucked into cards with thier gifts, for some of them this is thier 1st bonus ever, and I don't think they realize exactly what was meant by "profit sharing" in thier benifits package (you have no idea how wonderful it is to hand out a check worth someone's monthly pay at the holidays, as a "hey we did good this year", esp when you know they're stressing the holidays).

Becki, Somehow I'm always out on the days the postman tries to bring my boxes. Mr fishy went to the post to bring it home for me today.

a bag each of tulips (rosey pinks) and narcissis, gonna plant these together in pots (my patios, and walkwalks are gonna be lined with bulbs this spring, which I love).

a hand beaded bracelet (jaspers I think) it's the correct size for my tiny wrists (most bracelets wander towards my elbows).

2 recipie books (thank goodness I've been informed mr fishy's getting bored of: fajatas, stir fry, tacos, enchalads, chicken and rice, baked chicken, pastas, hamburgers, and everything else I've fed him the last 4 years)

a silver ornament that says "hope" and 3 hand beaded heart ornaments (wonderfully sweet)

a big bottle of bath and body works shower gel

a box of 5 of becki's truffles (these are going with us on the 26th)

4 jars of jams for mr fishy (a spoon went with him, and disappeared into his home office some time ago, he emerged for peanut butter and bread, and went back in, I expect the cran-mariner will be gone by breakfast tomorrow).

I think that's everything, the kids were hanging the ornaments before I'd unpacked the 2nd box, and mr fishy wandered off with the box when I got to the jams.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Fishy, that all sounds wonderful! What a fantastic box you were given. Mr. Fishy sounds like he has found a little piece of heaven from it too! LOL! How are you feeling? Much Better I hope! Good luck on the finals! I wish you the best of luck and positive thoughts while you test away!

Pixie, I am with you on the baking and then cooking dinner. I can't seem to think food anymore. LOL! The bad part is all the cookies and candies that I made a while back are completely GONE! Now, I have to begin again! Boo HOO!

The good news is Emma is feeling much better. She ate dinner with gusto this evening. We sat down to say Grace and I saw her pick up her fork. I told her we needed to pray first. She set it down and did the sign of the cross with us, I glanced up midway through our prayer and she was stuffing her face already! Sheesh! The little heathen! LOL! I am just glad she is bouncing back so quickly from the flu!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Yay! Emma's feeling better, and so is our Fishy! Yay! :O)

Our weather is going nuts down here...it was 53 degrees today! And we're supposed to get more snow on Saturday! What gives?? (ok, I KNOW ya'll answered that further up on the thread, LOL)

My brother (the cop from Tulsa) lost his electricity in last week's ice storm, and won't get it back on until Wednesday or Thursday THIS WEEK!! So he's been without for over a week now, with 2 freezers full of deer & other meats. He went out and bought a generator last Friday, but it's only big enough for the freezers.
To make matters worse, a large tree broke in half and went through the end of his trailer, so they have to repair that as well. It went through the bathroom & kids' bedroom. Good news is, this just might give him the excuse he's been needing to move (hasn't wanted to, really, before now b'c the house is paid for!) SO...we'll see how that goes. Poor guy has been so busy helping out other families, that he's hardly had time to get things done for his. He's feeling pretty bummed out right now, but he's bouncing back. Already took his boys hunting this weekend, so I'd say he's coping fairly well. LOL (course, that's his stress relief for EVERY situation. And beer. Don't forget the beer. LOL)

AH, the food..the FOOD!!!! Get me AWAY from all this FOOD!!! The boss keeps bringing in popcorn, candy, chocolate..nuts...cookies..You name it, it's in our breakroom. Plus, my mom brought us an entire BOX full of fudge. OMG. I've never seen so much FUDGE! And she makes the old fashioned kind, with everything under the sun in it. Which means, 1 small square will set you back by 500 calories & 100 grams of fat. LOL (approximate values, there, BTW) :O)
UGH. I can't wait for New Years...then I'll have the excuse & motivation to diet!! (along with 200 million other people!)

Anyway....Back to work for the bunny! (does typing count as aerobic exercise??)

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

OMG, you are going to turn into a pot bellied bunny with all that food! LOL! Well, with tiny skinny fingers from the aerobic fingers work out!

I feel terrible for your brother. I can't imagine dealing with part of my home being open to the elements. Brrrrr! Especially with no heat! YICK is an understatement.

Some little sneaky person has been cranking our thermostat here lately. I was roasting last night so I peaked at it today and it was set to 71. I normally keep it around 69 in the winter and layer up. Wait until the heating bill comes next month, I am going to raid the piggy bank of the culprit! LOL!

We are supposed to be in the 40's for the rest of the week. That is practically spring for us! YAY!

Karen, when do we start winter sowing our seeds? I need my tutor! HELP!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

He's not hunting with the beer right? No, the typing isn't exercize (I tried that one at the gym too).

Thank you for mentioning that, Trina!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TRACY!!!

I hope you are having a fantastic day - shopping for your gig today, right? I hope you get some time to relax and enjoy your day!!!!

Boy do I need to be better about keeping track of everyone's birthdays!

I'm working today on making lots of fudge for Dave to take up to our vendor that gets fudge from us every year. I love making it, but after a while, it gets a little old. Especially knowing they never reciprocate the gift!! (I know, it's better to give... but I give them about 20 pounds of fudge every year!) Oh, well! It's giving me a chance to try out a few new combos! And I know it is appreciated. Dave will drop it off tomorrow as he leaves to make his delivery to New York. Hopefully that will mean a couple days of almost non stop baking things to keep around here and bring with us to gatherings! It's kind of funny - Dave sure doesn't seem to mind my little sweets business when he has all these goodies to give to people when they stop by with a little gift! I've made all kinds of stuff for him to give away over the past few days! Hmmm... I'll have to come up with a way for him to pay me for all this! : )

Take it easy, everyone!

Happy Birthday Tracy~
Wishing you the best on your special day!

Diene,
I hope your Birthday was special too!

I had so much fun on my neverending Birthday weekend! It started Saturday (at my Mom's) with a pizza party. On Sunday, at my Mother in Law's (Country buffet restaurant), and finally on Monday (my real day) a nice restaurant! I'm not eating much this week at all! My Family purchased two baby Monk (blue) parrots for me (they needed a home from a Quaker forum that I recently joined). The adoption fee was only $300 for two birds (each usually cost $900 in my area). They are adorable! I'll try to post pics soon, when things settle down here.

Hopefully, I'll have time to check in before Christmas, but if I don't.. I'm wishing each of you a VERY Happy, HEALTHY, Merry Christmas!

Deb

Awww, Thank you girls! I am having a very busy Birthday this year and so we decided to postpone it until tomorrow. Danny's Christmas Play is tonight and the other 2 boys have their PSR classes. I have been running around getting all of my groceries for Friday's party that I am catering. Great memory Becki! Thank you for all the Happy Birthdays. I love it! You guys are great!

Debby I am so glad that you had a nice birthday! That is the way to do it, spread it out over several days! How fun!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hello Tracy;
Happy Birthday to you!! Have a great time tomorrow. diene

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

ok, i have a stupid question for ya'll, on our seed packets, if we print them up. are we allowed to put our web address on it if we are having a business? like for say flowers and more or soaps or somethinglike that? ya know like right across the bottom of it?? i think that would get the stuff out there too!! just a thought*** :'))

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

It's TRACY'S birthday!!

YAY!!! Happy Birthday Tracy!!!

How old are ya??? :O) :O)

Happy Birthday to my favorite Tracy!!!

Luv Ya!!!!!!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Thanks Diene and Miss Bunny! I am 36 years young today! LOL! Old enought to know better and too young to care! HA HA! Ohhhh BOY! Melissa, did you get me ELVIS for my present? I love him, Thank you!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Michele, I think that you should be able to put whatever you like on your seed packets that you are swapping. I know that some people send commercial seeds in exchanges and those packets have the vendors info on them. I would just make sure that if they are open pollinated seeds that you mention that in any listings for seeds that you might be selling along with all the other info about the seeds, germination dates, collection dates, expiration etc.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

i was curious about the trading, i was using the flower shop as a thingi!! LOL i'm a killer not a liver yet. LOL for plants. now talla can do that!! she's got a green thumb like you would not believe, now she sings to the soil cups, and a few seedlings have actually sprouted!! i'm so proud of her!!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Michelle I have several links to printable items, I like this one really well. Email me and I will send ya the ones I have.
This is another good one.
http://alenkasprintables.com/free_printables.shtml

I did some "plant seeds in memory of" packets. Like Tracy said just put the info on there. There should be no problem with you putting a website on although you may have to acknowledge the site that you printed the pattern from if they are copyrighted but other than that it shouldn't be a problem.

Here is a link that might be useful: Mardars Printables

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Pixie, I checked out those sites that you posted and they are great. I love the little seed packets that they have on there. How cute. I think when I finally get mine all organized I will make those up. Perfect! You are such a smarty!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

oh my goodness!! those are beautifull!! but how do you put more than one on a page?? like say 8?? cuz alot of my seeds are tiny! foxgloves and salvia's and such. so i don't need a huge one for them. i don't know how to do that. LOL :'))
5 more days!! LOL

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Michelle, you can do that in paint or there are several programs that you can download and use free for a time (free trial). I do mine in paintshop, takes a tad getting used to it for the vista version though, I am so used to having 98SE (which I love) so this Vista and I don't get along real good. On Marda's it talks about how to print, there are some good idea's that she has. I also made a template so I can customize my own seed packets. Just experiement ya can't mess it up.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

hers are so beautiful!! i kinda like some of them simple and i seen one website maggie wang makes some great ones too! but they are nothing like these!! LOL my problem is i love em all !! :'))

 o

 o
hmmmm...i don't really get theeeeeee

darned paint thingi!!!! ahhhhh!!! i miss print artist sooo much, but we can't find it for vista. it won't even download. LOL but of course that one is like 12 years old!! LOL but i loved it!! we went out and bought print shop and another thing and they just aren't the same! at least with print artist you could select which one ya wanted to do right off the bat,, business card, labels, banners, etc. these one's ya have to look all around to find the things, i'm just not good at all that stuff!! LOLi love simple!! LOL :'))

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

have ya tried Corel ProPaint Michelle? Its a good one that I use with Vista.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Send those stinkers to bed! Lights out kiddos! It's Mommy time! LOL!

We had a very nice night tonight! My mom came over for dinner with us and she made a German Chocolate Cake for my birthday. YUM! We had a nice dinner and Daddy and the kids got me a new purse and wallet. They are very pretty! Ted went out and bought a new smokin, grillin, frying cookbook for me! YAY! Finally more ideas for outdoor cooking! Now I just need to get me a smoker! Woo hoo! All the kids made me cards. Danny and Pat made me some paper snowflakes with little messages on them. I am going to hang them on the tree. It has been a very nice Birthday Evening.

Miss Fishy! How did finals go? HIP HIP HOORAY! YOU'RE DONE for the year!

 o
Finals

All done now, till Jan 21st.
A anthropology
A Early child studies
B creative curri. for young children

Mostly I'm glad it's over, this semester *really* dragged on. On the bright side that's pushed me over the 1/2 way mark to my next degree, so that's a bonus.
in the spring:

student teaching A
children's lit.
computers 101 - online (yes you can laugh, but it was this, psych, or various unappitizing classes I'd have to work for)
community outreach (working with underserved children)
rules and regs for child care settings (the class designed for school admins)

ugh I'm tired just looking at that list.

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

YAY we're so proud of you fishy!!! :'))
Tracy that sounds Sooo cool!! maybe for christmas one of them'll get ya one. hmmm LOL :'))
grant came down with the sinus infection/crud in his chest stuff again. so he's using the breathing machine off and on, and back to sleeping 1-2 hours a night. man i told him don't pick up smoking again. so last night befor he went and slept on the couch i had to let him know, ya know, we pay the price when you smoke, we pick up yor cigarette butts that "get" lost, and pick up the packs that accidently don't make it in the trash can, and have to walk around your smoke smell. and when you get sick and cough alll night long, we have to listen to that too and when your puking your guts out cuz of the coughing we have to deal with that too. so we pay the price with you. well i'm no good at being so nice at the very beginning til i have my ticked off say. its wierd but i do care that's why i'm sooooooo mad! but he sleeps on the couch cuz he can sit up. on our bed, its one of those fake waterbeds, so ya can't really sit up in it. but the kids have to listen to it, although talla sleeps like a rock!! LOL
hope ya'll have a great day!!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Great job Miss Fishy! Atta girl! I bet you are so glad to be done for a while. I don't blame you a bit for taking the computer class. I would opt for a little fluff to offset the hard stuff.

Medo, I am sorry the hubby is sick. I know you are mad at him for the smoking. It is a HARD habit to break and keep broken. I hope he feels better and gives quitting another shot.

I am done with the catering! YAY! I just got back and they are very happy with their Christmas Luncheon. My house stinks of garlic from all of the cooking. If it weren't so cold out I would throw open all the windows and turn the fan on the air it out!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

I find it amusing that the intro to computers is an ONLINE class. This is the class with such gems as "this is a monitor, this is a mouse".... I think we all have the same idea in the online class.

Becki,
Thanks! I had to hunt around to find some shmoozie fishies! LOL! I am on to baking more cookies today. Jack has a little friend coming over this afternoon and I thought decorating some of these would be fun for them to do. I am procrastinating getting the batter ready though! LOL!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hi All! Seems as I'm way behind on some wishes...So....
Happy Birthday! Happy Solstice! Happy Anniversary!
Anybody do any winter sowing yesterday? With it being the Solstice,I think that is when alot of people start. Was raining here so will do when it quits.(Not complaining about the rain, water levels still WAY down here)
Michele, Thanks for putting up the flyers! Also the loofa in soap sounds good, gotta find a loofa sponge to try that out.I have seeds ,but might pick up just the sponge next time I'm out. I think dollar tree has some. I also thought about putting one of those mini bath poufs in some too. Sorta like soap on a rope kinda thing.
Me & the kiddos are planning on baking some cookies for the neighbors. Saw a Choclate Covered Cherry Cookie Recipe that looked really good. Here is the photo we put in our families X-mas card
Photobucket
It took many, many, many, tries to get them all looking the same way. Thank goodness for digital .That way we knew when it was a keeper or not.
Later....April/dirt

Here is a link that might be useful: chocolate covered cherry cookies

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Are you getting dumped on, Michele? Looks like the snow is over you right now.

I was up until 2 this morning wrapping presents. Then, at about 6:30 this morning, I woke up to the news (I usually keep the TV on in our room when Dave is gone - I keep it down as low as it will go, but it drowns out all the noises our house makes that scare me), and there was a map of predicted snowfall - right on top of us it said 13.7"! Since then, I've seen them predict more like 8", but boy that almost 14" really startled me awake!!! Whoa! I think we are in the "calm" before the storm right now. Thursday morning until this morning, we were cloaked in a VERY heavy fog - almost 48 hours straight of being able to see only about 1/10 of a mile most of the time! Now it's cleared off, but drizzling. The snow is supposed to hit around noon, I think. And poor Dave is on his way home from New York! Last I knew he is somewhere between Cleveland and Chicago - Oh, he just called, he's on the Indiana Turnpike right now. Anyway, I'm sure he'll hit the weather at some point - hopefully not much though!

I hope you all are doing well! I've gotta bake more cookies today, too, Tracy! I've had my gingerbread dough in the frige for two days now, so I'd better bake those cookies! And more fudge to make. And I want to make some loaves of my herb bread to put in our gifts. And lots more...

Hugs,
Becki

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

your kids are absolutely cute!!!i know i was thinking about that, (april) and the lufa thing i read that the person used a pvc pipe and aluminum foil at the bottom and rubber band to hold it in place. just in case ya didn't have a mold thingi for it. 3 1/2 " diam and let it set over night.
i cannot believe i missed that in there about fishy and thems anniversary!! awww that's so sweet!! :')) Happy Anniversary!!
on another note, the floating trick, i'm not so sure about, some of those seeds are actually growing. so far 2. they are sturydy little things. :'))
ok, on yet another note, LOL i did kiss that hand, LOL his middle finger is all swollen, he wanted to use iodine, i said, uh, no, vinegar will make it alot better!! trust me, its still swollen, but not all black and blue like it would have been, he is still putting it on like last nite and this morning befor he went to work. he's quiting smoking and quiting chew. there's a job in corrections he really wants. he almost passed the phsical agility test the other day, but his legs would not take him the last lap around the track and he still had 1 more minute, he was so upset, the guy wants him back, he said he would rather have grant back him than the other guys, so he wants him back in there very soon to reapply!!
12 something an hour!! we could use that!!
then talkin to another woman i learned why in the summer grant and i almost got a divorce one time then last summer (and please don't think i'm crazy) the bad spirits in this place always seem to want to bother me. its because apparently that's when the energy is the highest, well i thought about it, and it makes sense to me. every summer, all summer its always something with them things with me!! thank goodness i'm native american and i have a good healthy dose of understanding of these things, just don't always know anything, LOL make sense??? LOL which kinda confllicts with the religious beliefs. the biblical but not mine.
ok, i'm sure i have bored ya enough and for the ones who want to say medo.....you are...... tell me more, i more info if ya want!! i'll take all i can!! LOL

 o
omg!!! lol

yep!! i can barely see lester's house now!! and all that work we did yesterday on the porch, gone with the wind LITERALLY!! that north wind is absolutely horrible right now!! it just tore that stuff up!! its still hanging on by the tops, but i went out there, there's nothing i can do, it's just blowing too much, if there was something blocking the northw wind for a while i could do something, for it to probably tear it up again, LOL can you believe this though?? but at least its only snow and not the rain and all!! and at least the kpl has been out to cut down almost all the tree's that are in the way, so that's good, except for mine, LOL
yours won't be to you for a bit becki? hopefully you'll be ok!! it don't sound like that bad of a storm!! LOL ok i'm babbling YET AGAIN!! i do that when i i feel like there's nothing i can do about something. ahhhhh!!!! LOL makes me feel like i wish i was those little fairies talla used to watch on tv. LOL :')) gotta go dream up ways to fix this!! LOL so i can put my freezer out there!! LOL

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Yeah, I guess it's supposed to blow like a son of a gun here too! Blizzard like conditions. I'm sure Tracy is used to that, with all that lake-effect snow, but not so much here!

Oh - yippie!!!!! The postman was just here and left the rest of the packages for my kids!!! Yay! All their games are here! Nothing for my nephews yet, but it will hopefully get here Monday! If not, I have some backup plans. But, I certainly didn't know how I was going to get past having the games! I am SO thankful!!!!

I hope everyone's day is going as well as mine so far!

Becki

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

we decided to go with the grandparents for the presents for the kids, which really help us out, !! LOL it seems like ya just never get ahead, and we just don't have the space anyhow. and ya know where they'll end up anyhow. mom spoils them rotten! dad bought tabor a pool stick tht lights up at the end. and talla a princess table set, ok where is she gonna put it?? there i hope!! i'm telling ya, i'm gonna have to get rid of everything and start over just for all the christmas presents i see over there!! now if they were in i'd tell dad to pipe down!! he's making the air go to much!! LOL the least he could do is give us some warm air!! LOL becki ya know how them truckers are, dave being one of them!! LOL i tell mom ya know how to tell when a trucker is full of it?? ..... when their mouth is open!!! :'))) LOL she's like MEDO or LEANN!!! your still not to old to be spanked ya know!! and i say hmmmmm........mom!!! RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

I received my box from Pixie today. She sent:

A Christmas tin of Fudge (I didn't get to bake or make my usual Christmas goodies because of my husband's health situation - so I really appreciate the homemade things you sent.)

Spiced Peppered Pecans (My husband grabbed these and the
fudge right away and the Pecans are almost gone!)

Cinnamon Honey Butter (Looking forward to having Christmas
morning!)

Amaretto Nog & Pomegranate Scented Candles
Cowbow Santa Christmas Ornament

Thank you so much, Pixie. I love everything!!

My husband is doing so well. They are cutting back on his therapy and after the first of the year, he will only be going in once a week. Looks like he will be able to have his heart procedure around the middle of January and should be back to work shortly after. Everyone is amazed at how fast he's recovering.

My daughter, who I haven't seen in two years, will be here for Christmas. She lives in Tennessee and neither of us can afford plane tickets very often. I really miss her and am so looking forward to having her here for a week.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!!!!

Sandy

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Oh shady, that's great!

By my count that leaves my box to Pixie as last (I'm starting to think the post office sent it via Mexico to Texas) still comes up as enroute.

We're a blended family, so the kids get yule with me, and then Christmas is done with mr fishy (we celebrate both sets of holidays). We split Christmas day for a few hours (he visits his mum, and I visit mine), since neither of us relish time with the in-laws, it's much simplier. I really can't believe marriage has gone so smoothly, but we both tend to be in agreement the bulk of the time. I think that's the benifit of repeat marriages, we both have perspective, or as mr fishy puts it "so she spent $100 on her hair, she's not sleeping with my brother" (yes that was in referance to his ex-wife).

Off to bake santa cookies!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hello All;
I ordered some stuff from Becki and it arrived today. They are wonderful and the boxes are great. DH was so impressed.
We have both only had one of the decadent chocolate as they are huge and rich.
I am so pleased to have them for the holidays. Thanks Becki.
Merry Christmas to all.
diene

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Becki's chocolates are fab. we fed truffles to each other last pm (cheezy, I know, it was his idea.) The cran truffle is really good too! Hmm... Becki, you taking V-day orders yet?... I know! I have 8 lesser known holidays to exploit!.... I mean celebrate! with chocolates!!!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Oh, thank you girls!!! That is so sweet! Girl - I'll take orders anytime!! I was so worried about shipping them, but I think having them in those little boxes helped - I hope!! Did they arrive okay? Thank you again! I love hearing good feedback - but the bad is helpful too, so if it's needed, say so!

It's certainly snowing here! Dave is only about an hour away, under normal conditions, but he says you can only drive about 35 on the interstate right now, so it might be a while yet. Hopefully he'll get here soon though. I've got a pot of chili going, so hopefully that will fill his tummy nicely, after eating all the junk on the road!!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

OH WOW Sandy, I am sooo happy you got the box! I was worried about it as it still tells me its "processed". I am happy you liked everything (the peppered pecans are my favorite thing in the world!) and I hope you have a Wonderful Christmas. I am very happy to know that your Hubby is recovering so well! Sounds like you will have a very Special Christmas Treat with your daughter visiting!

Fishy, no worries, I am just happy that you are going to have a Merry Christmas. I think the snail mail runs on a time zone all its own! :)

Diene, I have heard about how wonderful Becki's chocolates are and plant to order some for our Anniversary the end of Feb.

I hope everyone is doing great!

Pixie

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Pixie - don't you hate that??? My boxes keep saying, "The postal service was electronically notified on such and such a date to expect a package..." Ugh - or, "Your item was processed and left our Houston facility on..." and then says that for 3 days after that. Oh, well! All my USPS packages are here now, so no worries! If only that stinkin' Fed Ex package would leave Des Moines again... I didn't really figure they would deliver it today, as it's Saturday, but I was hopin'!

Ahh - holiday joy! I'm afraid I won't get nearly everything done that I had hoped too before Christmas, but that's okay. I can live with it! : )

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hello All;
I am back now from visiting Mom in rehab, she will be there until January 4th so I brought a wreath, small fake Christmas tree and some decorations for her room. She is at this great facility, it is less than a year old and only has private rooms. If you need to be in this type of facility, this is one of the best I have seen. It is very hard as my father does not drive at night and I am the only other family member in the area. We did have a great visit this evening and I think she is going to be much better for having her hip replaced.
Earlier today DH insisted we go to this furniture consignment store we had stopped at earlier this week (the day we had to go to the cardiologist because he supposedly had an enlarged heart). Fortunately, that was not the case so we spent the rest of the day relaxing. Anyway, back to the furniture place, there was a beautiful old oak and glass china closet with curved glass sides and a bow front with a leaded insert with beveled glass that he had fallen in love with. So...
You guessed it, it came home with us today.
While it is a wonderful piece, we do not need any more furniture in fact I am trying to find a home for a old oak sideboard right now. But I spent most of the afternoon rearranging my dining room to fit this new cabinet and fill it with stuff. It really looks great but the dining room is more crowded now and with a crowd of 15 coming next weekend, I am not that happy. I deliberately left room for the table to take the two 24" leaves so I can sit everyone in one room. Now I will have to put the children in the kitchen.
You know when you think of the concerns of some people, I feel ridiculous complaining about anything this trivial. Everyone should have my problems.
Hope my problems are the worst that anyone suffers this holiday!! Enjoy the season.
Merry Christmas. diene

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

well i hope he is safe becki!! grant made it home BUT he got like 2 blocks away and slid off in a ditch, and the suv is stuck there till tomarrow. he got stuck 2 times in town. a nice driver by gave him a ride home, it was actually like 1/2 mile or so away. its like 1/2 foot or so easy of snow. i know them telephone logs, i have, they are totally covered!!!
so that's the update!!
i'm so happy for ya shady!! :')) what a christmas present!!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Yep, he made it home just fine. I'm sorry Grant had so many problems! I hope it's not too difficult (or expensive) to get the SUV back out! I'm not sure how much we got - earlier in the evening, we thought it was about 6", and still snowing, but you just can't tell now, as the wind blew it all over the place - some places in the grass are bare, and there are many places that are deep.

I'm glad your mom is doing okay, diene! Your problems need to be talked about just as much as anyone else's. Don't feel rediculous for saying it! Oh, and I'm glad your hubby's heart is okay! : )

I am *hoping* that Dave and I go out and finish or Christmas shopping today! Fortunately I have most of it done, but we still need a few things. And, I know how he gets when he gets in the store to do Christmas shopping - I tell him we already have enough for one of the kids, but he'll just keep throwing stuff in the cart! He loves giving at Christmas time! Anyway, I'm hoping to finish with that today, and finish the baking I am going to finish tomorrow, but if it has to be vice versa, then so be it!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Good Morning! Diene, I am very happy that you have your Mom in a good nursing home. I have a very good friend that is a nurse at 2 homes. The first one is a swanky place that caters to their residents and has very strict guidelines on their employees, patient treatments, and is very well run. The other is a facility that is less than stellar. She feels that she can not quit the second facility because she is one of the very few who actually cares about the residents.

I feel for you in the concern for room for all at the table for Christmas! Years ago I bought a beautiful Pecan Wood dining table for 14 if we crowd the table and 16 if we sit 2 on the ends. Without the leafs it sits 6 and then has 3 24" inserts for extending the table. It is a lovely old piece but alas our family has outgrown it for the holidays! My brother has 4 kids, I have 5 and with my cousin and his new wife, my Mom, Aunt and Uncle there is not enough room! We are always finagling how to arrange the furniture to accomodate everyone. This year we have placed the dining table in the living room and taken furniture out to make more room.

The closet sounds wonderful! I wish I had room for a side piece like that. One of these days we are going to add on to the house so we can have a very large kitchen with a Great Room/Dining Room. I have many plans and a too busy hubby so I don't know if it will ever happen.

Becki and medo, I am so glad the guys made it home safe and sound! That storm sounds like a big one. I haven't watched the weather lately and don't know if it is coming our way or not. Will have to check it out.

We went to a Christmas party last night with all the kids at the Hubby's cousin's house. It was so crowded we could barely move. We had a very nice time seeing all the extended relatives. The crazy thing is they had 3 young dogs running around the place and jumping on people. It got to be a little much! I had my knee knocked out from under me a few times when I was pounced on from behind. The little devils needed to be put away for the night. Emma spent the night telling everyone that she is a princess because she was dressed up in her party dress and fancy shoes. LOL! She was loving all the attention. She told Ed's 2nd cousin that she is soft and pretty and that she loves her. Emma made her night, now she wants her to come over and play dress up and princess at her house! LOL!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Oh, our table seats 8 at best, so the adults usually sit at the table, which is in the kitchen, and then the kids usually sit at a card table in the office (which used to be a dining room.) This year at Thanksgiving, we switched it a little (as we had a football game on during dinner), and the kids and any moms that wanted to stay sat at the table, and the rest of us sat with TV trays in the living room. Sad, but true. We do however have really nice wooden TV trays, so at least they weren't those cheap aluminum ones!

hey at least it wouldn't be like it would be like at ours, at the couch or chair, LOL no animals, oh wait, we do have them kids!! oh ya, now they are called the evil ones by each other, LOL one guy died in the 32 car pile up on i 70 (mile marker 328). yesterday was not a good day for people on the road, one family/person? got stuck on the tracks and they for some reason had to stop the train, i don't know why they didn't just get out.. and wait.. i never heard anymore on that. my dad did say that he had to get stopped for a while. by topeka. didn't know why. i'm so glad dave made it home safely!! i worried about that. we have some kinda insurance when we got our house morgaged that its free to get it pulled or something. so that was cool!! it was up to his car door he had to go out the passenger side to get out it was so deep. in tx there was 70 car pile up. how pixie?? i hope you are ok!!! my mom is on her way to georgia, i hope its all ok. so far we have 1 princess table set, and 1 microscope set. so its been one night of blood and hair looking at, and the nasty water!! ewww!!! LOL Merry Christmas!! and i hope all your wishes come true (or most of them) next year! :'))

Merry Christmas Melissa! Have a safe and fun time off with the kids and hubby.

Well I am finally done with all of my shopping. I am stocked up on food for Christmas dinner. I have been making chocolates all evening. I think I have cured myself of my love for the stuff! LOL! I made enough to bring to all the neighbors and gift boxes for the relatives with a little left over for us on Christmas to nibble on. Tomorrow is going to be cleaning and laundry then Christmas Eve Mass with the Inlaws. I still need to wrap gifts!

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone! I know things are going to get hectic around here for the next 48 hours, so this MIGHT be my last time on here for a while (though I might sneak in once or twice!) I hope you all have WONDERFUL days!

I'm not quite done with my shopping, Tracy! Gotta go one more time today. Dave went with me to the farm supply store yesterday (which still had some really good toy deals), but we still need to go to Walmart. And get food for Christmas dinner. Well, we have the ham, but need to get some of the other goodies. I have lots of baking to do yet. And lots of wrapping yet! I am going to get that started pretty soon here, as I should have at least a good hour before the kids start to stir.

I hope you all have wonderful days, and have great fun with your families!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Love,
Becki

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Becki, have fun finishing up the shopping today! I hope you find everything that you need!

Medo, Wow, that was a great visit with your family! Isn't it hillarious watching the kids meeting their cousins and having a crazy time? Their antics make me smile! I love it when they get to have so much fun. Sounds like the new nephew is nervous with the relatives and is doing the Eddie Haskel thing :o)How long before the babies are due? That was super of you to give the computer to Tabor's friend. I know he will get lots of use of it. I think of all the papers that Ted has had to write for school and how handy this thing has come in for him. These kids are so lucky with the internet and MSword for creating them! They don't know how good they've got it! Remember the days of checking out source material and hauling it all home to reference and then siting all of it in the bibliography? Ack!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

oh ya! i tell tabor keep up ypur attitude buddy and you'll be looking up stuff out of the books only!! LOL it works!! you should see these guys, they are playing dolls, and if he knew i was posting this he'd probably kick my butt!! LOL na he asked me to make some for dudley. LOL i guess its his favorite, but i haven't made it in so long that i hope that it tastes as good as it did before!! LOL

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Got most of the shopping done this morning - just have to run back to town and get a couple more things I couldn't get with Dave. Right now the kids and I are baking cookies for Santa. Umm, actually it's the gingerbread cookie dough - I tried making gingerbread men - but they turned into gingerbread blobs - I must not have rolled it thin enough (thought they were REALLY crispy after baking). Anyway, we are just making them into round cookies, and they are nice and thick and soft and SO YUMMY!!! I told the kids I think gingerbread is Santa's favorite cookie.

Anyway, gotta get back to that, and finish my shopping and then LOTS OF WRAPPING!!!

Take care everyone! (I love when the boys play with dolls - it's so cute!!)

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

I hope everyone had a very Beautiful Christmas and is just laying back enjoying everything today.

Fishy, I received the most wonderful package today! Inside the box was a very sweet and special card, and you really made my Pixie dust shine sweetie!

The box was filled with some Holiday Mint Foot Scrub, some Pomegrante Jubilee Bubble Bath, and some Cucumber Melon Hand lotion. ( I love the smells of them all!). It also contained the most beautifully wrapped gift I have ever seen, I didn't want to open it it was so pretty! Attached to the blue sparkly bow were three ornaments, one a glass ornament cake plate with a pc of chocolate cake on it that looks very yummy! There is a silver snowflake also. Best is a WONDERFUL BLUE "ANGEL FISH". OHH how I wish my camera worked because my description won't give it justice. It has beads and sparkles on its face and fins, on the body sides are blue glass tiles and mirrored tiles making the scales. It is absolutely gorgeous and will always remind me of Sweet Fishy! INSIDE the wrapped box was a large box of Belgian Collection Grand Truffles! OMG sweetie they are soo rich and delicious! Such an assortment also! Fox, the boys and I all had a different one and they are YUMMYYYY!!!! Thank you sweet Fishy you really made my Christmas very very special!

I hope everyone has as special a day as I have had today!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Awesome box, Pixie! I'm glad you are having a great day!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!! We had a very nice day. It started at about 3:45 in the morning, when Elizabeth got into bed with us and said she couldn't sleep. We had told them not to get us up before 5:30, so we told here to go back to sleep. She never did. She just kept waking us up every 15 minutes or so. A little before 6, we heard William up too (though he'd been up off and on since 1:30, aparrantly!), so we finally gave in and told her to go on downstairs. Carl and Ray had spent the night, which was so nice, so they woke Carl up who was sleeping on the couch, and he told them to go down to the basement and get Ray up... Anyway, we were all downstairs a little after 6:00, and we had a donut that Dave got the day before at Walmart, all decorated for Christmas. It was a really nice morning, and so cool because all of us were there! Here is a piture of the kids on Christmas Eve, in their new Chrismas PJs (though all the boys have on old t-shirts - but their pants are new!) Ray had already left to hang out with some friends for the evening, so it's Carl laying down, with from left to right, Sylan, Lily, William and Elizabeth.

christmas eve

They were having such a fun time! Sorry for the red eyes! I haven't messed with the pictures yet!

I hope you all had a wonderful day! Wish I could have you all over for a New Year's Eve party! We often have our next door neighbors over, but she gets very loose-lipped when she is drunk, and the last few times she was over and drinking, she said some very hurtful things. Once was understandable, but it happened a second time, and now I have absolutely no desire to hang out with her, when I know drinking will be involved! I won't knowingly put my husband or myself in that situation again. So, it might just be us, we'll see. But oh, how I'd love to have you all over for a party! : )

Hugs
Becki

Isn't everyday a party here?

Ok becki, I now have a strawberry-kiwi habit we need to address (all I've have had today is toast, and the jar's empty, we're outta bread). That was amazingly good. Should be illegially good. We need to talk cases....

That looks like it's the last box recieved, I can't remember who's doing the Jan swap, but I know someone knows.

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hi everyone! I am starting to feel human again after all of our Christmas Merry Making. We all had a great morning and the kids are thrilled with everything Santa brought to them. They have been playing like crazy with everything! I is so nice to see them having fun.

Trina, that gift box from Miss Fishy sounds wonderful! You are a lucky girl!

Becki, I am so glad that you had a nice Christmas with the whole family. That is great that the older guys stayed over for Christmas morning. I bet they had fun with the little kids. If they are anything like my oldest they had lots of fun with the boy's toys! lol!

Fishy, originally Klickitat said she was going to host for January but is unable to. Then Veeja offered to if Klick wasn't back in time to get it started. I hope you don't sue our Becki! Maybe a settlement of one jar of strawberry kiwi preserves a month would be agreeable? ;o)

Carol, if you are still up for hosting we would love to have you do the honors!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas! We absolutely did. All the kids have been gorging on candy...Adora has eaten so much over the last 24 hours that she keeps conking out from the sugar induced high/low thing. She will be so hyper, she's running in circles & singing at the top of her lungs...then she just collapses asleep and stays that way for an hour or so. First thing she says when she wakes up, though....."I WANT CANDY!!" And goes for the candy jar.

Um. Yep, said candy jar is now located somewhere safe, and about 10 ft above Adora head level! LoL
Hubby says "It's only once a year...let the kids eat all they want for a day..THEN put it up!" Little did he know that Adora is a sugar junkie!! LOL

What did everyone do for the holiday??? Share Share Share!!! :O) If I"m the only mom that let her kid get multiple sugar highs...I'm gonna feel bad! LOL

HI Everyone!
I'm still recovering! Right now the house is totally quiet (everyone's sleeping) and I'm enjoying the silence! I cooked my behind off! Honey glazed, brown sugar spiral ham & a turkey/homemade stuffing (made with white castle hamburgers)! Plus tons of sides- whipped garlic/ranch potatoes, corn, asparagas, etc. Appetizers- including artichoke/spinach dip/parmesan garlic bread slices, garden herb cheese dip/crackers, strawberry cheesecake for dessert! And Oprah's pomagranate martini's, yum!
My Family had a wonderful, busy Christmas! ;)

Looking forward to reading all about your Holiday!
Wishing you all the best!

Deb

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

No worries Miss Bunny! Our kids have been junking up on cookies and home made chocolates since Christmas Eve! Emma's mouth is going to be permanently stained brown from all of the chocolate she has stuffed in herself. We finally put everything up and the house is semi-cleaned up.

Deb, your menu sounds awesome! I made those pomegranite martinis once and they are yummy! I am so glad that you had a great Christmas! I have to tell you how much we all love the little Santa candle that you sent! I have it on a side table next to the couch and Emma keeps telling Santa thank you for all her presents!

I made beef tenderloin with a port wine and mushroom sauce, loaded redskin potato casserole with bacon, vegie medley with cheese sauce and french fried onions. Appetizers were shrimp with cocktail sauce, baked brie with Peach preserves, and spanikopita (spinach and feta cheese baked in rolled up filo dough). We all ate until we were ready to burst! Then we dug into apple pie, chocolates, and butterscotch cookies. I sent everyone home with a goody bag of starbuck's christmas blend coffee and assorted chocolates. We all had tons of fun and laughs but I am dog tired from all the cooking, baking and candy making!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

I am soooo happy that we all had a wonderful Christmas, whatever day it was celebrated on!

I have a major prayer request, don't know if ya'll heard it on the news or not or even if Houston news is broadcast where ya'll each live but anyways, fox and I have some dear friends that have a son Alan's age (19) he was home from college over the holidays and they had a party, well some kids that weren't invited showed up and Matt asked them to leave, long story short Matt was stabbed in the heart and died last night. Please keep their family and the friends that witnessed this AND the child (young man) that did this in ya'lls prayers. The young man that did this is still on "the run". Its a very very sad situation. I don't know all the details but I do know that a parent should not have to bury a child that is just not the way things are supposed to go, parents are to be buried first.

Anyways enuff of the sad stuff.

We had a very wonderful Christmas here, Nan was in and it was nice having my boys around. I got to use my Christmas present this evening. I got a new Kitchenaid mixer for Christmas. I was going to make sugar cookies with it but ended up making sausage balls for Nan's trip home tomorrow. I also "had" to make more peppered pecans but this time I had to add more hot sauce, sheesh what is it with these guys and hot things???? Speaking of that....

All day long Nan and I have been listening to Rebs seranade, whine, howl, chirp, bark, you name it and he did it, to Mud. Mud is in her second week of HEAT (for ya'll that don't know the second week is the week that they are throwing out pheramones calling any takers). I even called a couple people to have them hear Rebs. Sheesh he hates us about now!!! Nan just looked at him and said "sucks to be you eh Rebs?" lol. Ok to clear things up.... We are keeping Mud and Rebs apart as this is Muds first heat and she is too young to have pups, Rebs (male) is a horndog and would be one of those stray dogs that jumps the fence to get after that fluffy thing. So thats our excitement nowadays.... keeping them apart. Sheesh what "A Wonderful Life" eh???? lol

Smiles,
Pixie

Hi everyone! I've been sorta MIA here. I've been checking in when I can though! Much belated birthday wishes to Deb, Diene and Tracy, belated Anniversary wishes to Fishy, and I'm so glad to hear that everyone had a Merry Christmas! Thoughts & prayers to your friends' family Pixie, so sad!

Gosh, you all fix some nice holiday meals!! We just have the basics at my folks', Turkey/Ham, stuffing(our Fav!!) potatos & gravy, jello salads, frozen corn OFF the cob, jello salads, pies, and goodies. Usually my mom fogets something! lol This year it was squash in the microwave and coleslaw in the fridge. It gets used at suppertime though!

Just thought I'd drop in and let y'all know I'm still around! In case I don't get on this week-end, I hope everyone has fun ringing in the New Year!!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Oh my gosh Pixie, that is just awful. I hadn't heard about it. I am so sad for his family and the family of the boy who did this. How did our youth become so angry? I am praying for them all.

Karen, We missed you! Your Christmas dinner sounds wonderful! That is very close to the meal that we have at my inlaws every year! It all sounds yummy to me! I am normally the one who forgets to put a dish on the table! LOL! I now ask my mom "what did I forget" as she is fully informed on all the side dishes due to my forgetfull nature! hee hee! I hope you have a fantastice New Year too!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

gee pixie!! i am soo sorry! its so sad when ya have to start thinking about patting everyone down at the door! but we will pray for them! i know i'm really late on it all. but better than never. :')) lots of love to ya!! i know that must be hard for you.

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Oh, What awful news, Pixie!! How horrible for both families involved! Geeze, I cannot imagine....
Lots of prayers to both families. Wow.

Who is hosting the next swap...did we ask that already? I missed it, I think! :O)

I wanted to share with you guys what my hubby gave me for Christmas! This picture isn't very good, because the drawing was already framed, so the light was reflecting off of it...but Hubby drew me a picture of my orange rose that bloomed this summer! I think he's very talented, and I"m soooo thrilled that he has taken up drawing again. He quit for years, because he simply thought he wasn't good enough. Tried to tell him that it's not about being "good", it's about just enjoying it. SO, he decided to surprise me for Christmas....I just love it! :O)

What a goober I am. Oh well. I see it is quiet as usual here. It seems to have become a trend lately. Where are all our crazy friends? I hope you are all busy running from one Christmas party to the next.

Good Afternoon All;
Sorry I have not been around, Mom turned 80 on Saturday and with her in rehab, we had her birthday party there. My brothers and sister and their children came for the event, it was great to have most of the gang together. Two of my nieces were missing as well as a BIL. We woke up to snow this morning and while the driving is treacherous, the scenery is beautiful!!
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

This last one was to show you all the hard work I had to do to clear the driveway. The picture above is my street which the plow did not do as good a job as I.
The top one is the front garden, you can barely see my bench. I am very sore from shoveling and pushing the snowblower. The snow is very heavy as you can see by how it is clinging to the trees. Lost a few branches also, oh well.
HNB that picture is spectacular! Pixie sorry to hear the story of the young men. What a tragedy.
Hope everyone has a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Back

Me & mr Fishy snuck off to a cabin in the snow for a few days after xmas, next time must get one with hot tub. The boys joined us after the 1st night for some snowballing/sledding fun. Bunny, that's a lovely drawing, he certainly has talent (I'm still on stick-people for the most part). Durning the holiday 2 weeks we do a art-camp deal for the kids, so I'm up to my eyes in construction papers and glue sticks this week. I'm planning on enjoying my next 3 weeks of time, b4 the spring classes start at San Bernie.
Our cat Sasha passed away Sat AM from age (she was 15), and mr fishy helped the boys pick out a new cat from the shelter yesterday, so soon I'll be adapting a new cat to my nutty school/work household. I have my new trees comming soon, and that has me happy, I'll post pics once they're here.

We're still waiting for our first major snow fall, all we've had is an inch or two so far. So, the kids (and hubby) are anxiously waiting! Can't wait to break out the sled!

I hope everyone is having a fun & safe NEW YEARS EVE!! I'm stuck at work, and hubby will most definitely be asleep by the time I get home....so I'll have to settle for a cup of tea, and a nice quiet evening alone. :O)

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Happy New Year, everyone!!! Hope you all had a good time last night! Fishy - the cabin sounds wonderful! What fun! And Melissa - that picture is beautiful! What an artist your hubby is!! Oh, and Pixie, I've been praying for that family - what a tragedy! Tracy - no Christmas parties - just had the one and that's it! Diene - you did a great job on that driveway!! I'm lucky, my hubby always gets out the garden tractor with the plow and takes care of ours, but ever since we had that big ice storm, we've had a layer of ice underneath, so it's pretty slippery all the time! Ours is gravel, so it's hard to scrape away all the ice! Michele, April, Kalena, and everyone else - I hope all is well your way!!

We stayed home last night. We watched a couple movies - 'Live Free or Die Hard', which I thought was excellent! Loved it! Then, Dave and I watched '1408'. I SO do not recommend that movie!! It was like a nightmare that just wouldn't end! Anyway, Dave got some shrimp with cocktail sauce, and the boys loved that! And I made some dip that everyone ate with chips. And Carl gave us a late Christmas present of a Pepperidge Farms gift box, so we had plently of cheeses and such. It was a nice evening. Then, when we shut off the 2nd movie, Dave asked what time it was, and I went to check, and wouldn't you know, it was one minute to midnight! So we watched the ball drop, and then all went to bed! Not real exciting, but quiet and enjoyable (besides freaking out to a movie - now I remember why I don't like watching Stephen King movies!!)

Have a very happy new year, everyone!!!

Becki

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

who was in 1408? or who made it? tabor loved that other movie you watched!! LOL we watched halloween the new one by rob zombie, kinda kool!! explains alot!! we have spent time with mom and them and aunt julie and them, all at mom's house, so that's 10 people in one house. and its kinda crazy with white indians. have ya ever seen that?? LOL lets see talla is 5 so she's trying to be a big girl with the kids cuz they are all 3 11 and 12. they were out playing ping pong so i had to make them play 2 on 2 so she would have a turn. hope ya'll had a great night, we just did, watched fire works and all!! but i'm ready ato go home!! LOL

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Good Morning everyone! Happy New Year. We spent a quiet evening home like Becki. We watched Shrek 2 on the tv with the kids. We hadn't seen it before and it was a lot of fun. The kids were allowed to stay up and watch the ball drop in Time Square. Emma was so excited to see Hannah Montana singing! She boogied down while she watched her sing. The boys had a blast, all except Dan were able to keep awake until Midnight. Poor little guy wouldn't say he wanted to go to bed so he told us he was going to play with his Rescue Heroes in his room and then he tucked himself in and went to sleep. Stubborn little fella didn't want to admit defeat in front of the big brothers. LOL!

Pixie, I am going to try my hardest to remember that it is '08. Last year the first check I wrote in the new year had me jumping ahead to '08 and skipping '07 altogether! LOL!

Diene, Your pictures are beautiful. I love the crisp whiteness that follows a fresh snowfall. Time for a hot bath to soak away all the achies after your hard work clearing the drive. That is wonderful that all the kids made it in for your Mom's birthday. It is so nice to have everyone home!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Tracy - that is so funny! I KEPT thinking last year was 2008 for some reason! I can't tell you the number of checks it ended in '08! Sad!!!

Michele - it starred John Cusack, with a supporting role by Samuel L. Jackson. A few other people, but they were the main ones. Mostly just John Cusack. It was a typical Stephen King, I suppose. About an author who writes about haunted places, but knows none of it is true, because he's stayed in all these places, and nothing has ever really happened. Then he gets a post card telling him not to stay in room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel in NYC, so of course he has to go. Samuel L. Jackson is the manager of the hotel, and he tries his hardest not to have him stay in that room, but John tempts fate, and finds out it really is haunted! Trust me - frightening! And it feels like it will never end! I'm not a horror movie liker, so it was too much for me. But, Dave liked it. He loves Stephen King. How did we get together???

Sweet little Dan tucking himself in! Elizabeth actually laid on the couch to watch that stupid movie with us, but I kept telling her to put the blanket over her face, and finally one of those times she fell asleep. Lily fell asleep pretty early - around 8, I think. Then, just as the ball was dropping Elizabeth woke up, so we all saw it but Lily. It threw me for a loop though, as we are in the Central Time Zone, and it said Live on the TV, in NYC - that didn't make any sense to me. But, I was tired, maybe it said Live on the East Coast, everywhere else it's not.

Happy New Year Everyone!
It's been snowing here for 4 days! We stayed in last night and watched movies. I cooked on the grill yesterday in a snow storm! It's a balmy 21* right now. By Saturday in the 50's? Strange unpredictable weather!

I work today, like I do every year, but that's ok. The boys are living on the bike & scooter they got for xmas, which makes me happy. I'm spending extra time in the busy beetle class this month (2-3) helping with the last few reluctiant toilet trainers, so that they're ready to bump up to ladybugs in spring. May not be glamiorus, but it helps morale to know the boss isn't above wiping tushies either. On a related note, Erik is now reading... at 3.... punk kid. He's sat in on his brother's reading lessons for so long he knows his letter sounds and compbos, yesterday he just started reading on his own. So I may bump him up a class to the 4-5 room early.

Hello Everyone;
I just realized I had not ever shown you what happened to those bulbs I dragged out of the basement. Only one has flowered so far but they are all still growing. The one that did flower is beautiful.
Here it is.

We had a great time last night, went to friends for an impromptu party. We were hoping to go sledding but the moon never came out and we did not feel it was safe enough to be out without it. For an impromptu party it was very well attended. There were at least forty people there, most of them strangers to us so we made some new friends. I found two women interested in gardening, one lives the next street over and has been admiring my gardens. We are going to work on her yard come spring.
Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Diene,

Those look wonderful! Moonlight sledding would be so fun! I love meeting new people, that is so nice of you to help out your new friend with her garden. I know she will learn a lot from you.

Have a great night!

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Those are beautiful, diene! Wow!

I hope you all are doing well! And having a happy new year!

I'm afraid I am spending a lot of time right now going through differnt presidential candidates websites, and trying to figure out who exactly I want to caucus for tomorrow night. As you may or may not know, we have the Iowa Caucuases tomorrow, and boy, I can't wait for it to be over! But, I feel it is my duty and right to participate. I don't know if any of the rest of you are in caucus/primary states, but we have been bombarded with information here! Constant commercials and phone calls! I've been getting at least one political phone call a day for the past month or more. Often several each day. 3 months ago, I thought I had already decided whom I was going to caucus for, but over the past several weeks, I have been flip flopping like crazy!! Ugh! So, I've said to myself several times, why are you even going to go? And then I tell myself, because then I would be letting someone else make my decision for me! I don't want to turn this thread political, so I won't even start mentioning names or parties. I've been registered with no party for many years now, as I consider myself a very strong independent. But I have been leaning toward one side for the past several years. And over there, there are 2 people for whom I would vote, that have a good chance of winning. But, I find that I agree with a lot of things on the other side of the fence as well, and it's really thowing me for a loop! Now, my hubby has really brought my attention to this candidate on the other side, and I am really liking what he stands for! But, he doesn't have a snowball's chance in h... to win the nomination, or likely even the caucus. So, I am fighting with this idea of why even vote for him then, why not put my vote toward someone who has a chance of winning it? Ugh - it is occupying my thoughts so much right now! I've been trying so hard to keep an open mind and look at everyone for what they believe in, but it seems like with everyone there are things I agree with, and things I don't! So frustrating! Dave told me to just wait until tomorrow morning, and whomever I am feeling like I need to vote for when I wake up, is who I should vote for. So, I guess that's what I'll do! Anyway, just thought I'd let you all know what's been occupying my thoughts lately!

I hope the rest of you don't have such things on your mind that you are blowing way out of proportion!! I don't know why I am making this such a monumental decision, as it's just my one little vote amidst many more - but I am trying to do what's right!

Okay, so, yep, I'm ready for it to be over!!!

Have a great day everyone!!!

Make a list

Becki,
Grab a sheet of paper, write down the 3 and ONLY 3 issues that are the most important to you/will effect you the most. Now look at list of 3 items, and find the candidate who closely reaches those goals, can you live with 2/3 if they get the 2 really right? I usually look most at educational ideas, enviromential ideas, and general compenticy (does the guy make sence when he speaks?), but your ideas may vary (I think all teachers wanna know what a candidate thinks on education first). I think the last 2 elections have shown us even a small % of voters can have a huge impact on national elections, so of course it's something to ponder seriously.
Then again I picked my candidate in Sept, baised off thier views on closing the education gap between "rich" & "poor" schools.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hello Becki;
We were just discussing the caucus tonight as we have no idea what that really means. Is it the same as voting or is it like a town meeting with discussions that then leads to a consensus?
How does an independent get involved? Do you have to choose which party you caucus with or does everyone get to go to both?
We have primary elections here but as an independent, I cannot vote. I could declare a party affiliation the day of the election but then I would have to resubmit as an independent.
Good luck tomorrow but if you have the time, I would love to understand what exactly is involved. Thanks. diene

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Yep, diene, that's exactly what we'll have to do. We have to register as a republican or democrat for that day, and then we can reregister as an independent afterwards. You have to go to one parties caucus or the other (if you choose to, that is.) You go to your caucus place, and get into groups by which candidate you are supporting. (I've never done this before, so this is just what I understand so far.) I know on the dem. side this is the case, but not sure on the rep. - if any one candidate has less than a certain number of supporters there, that candidate is excluded, and his/her supporters have to go to a different group. These numbers all depend on how many delegates get sent from your area (and as ours is really small, I'm guessing just one, which means I believe the candidate has to have at least 35% of the vote.) I could be way off on this, but that's my understanding. After that, I'm not sure of what happens. I think I know who I am going to caucus for, and even though he doesn't have much of a chance, I agree with so much that he says, that I will have to go with him. If more people think that way, he might have a chance, I guess. After it happens, I'll let you know exactly how it works. Knowing that very few people actually attend the caucus, and knowing ours is a small area, maybe my guy has a chance!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Becki, I am so glad that you brought this up. Seeing as I don't live in a caucus state I have never understood it very well at all. I am glad that Diene asked. I have to concur with fishy's idea. That is generally what I was thinking when I was reading your original post. The only problem that I see is that so many candidates agree with each other on many of the issues during the campaign stage and then switch up after election. My thought is that you run with your gut. When Hillary, Obama and Edwards firts threw their hats in the ring I was decidedly in Obama's camp. Now that I am hearing more from Edwards I am liking much of what he has to say. I am still undecided but I think you have gotten to hear more definitive information than I have. I am at the mercy of whomever the press is following most closely. I am undeclared on whether I am republican or democrat too but lean more toward one than the other most elections.

If I were you I would vote for the person that you are leaning toward no matter what. Every vote counts. The last few elections have been so close it has been surprising.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Since you brought up names, Tracy, I'll go there as well. I was very much on the Edwards train ever since the last election. But, he and Obama are the ones I have been teetering between. Then, I had to very honestly admit to myself, that is wasn't really on the issues, it was more because they were "likeable". And I do agree with them on many things. But... then Ron Paul came into the picture. Dave liked him right away. It took me a little while to come around, but as I really took a look at his view on the issues, I see I agree with him on a lot. So, I think I will am going to be a Republican tomorrow. Then, an Independent again. He is quite a bit different than the typical Republican, in fact he ran as an Liberatarian in the '84??? election (I don't have the paper here anymore, so I'm not sure that was the year.) Please don't think I'm crazy for going with him, but my head and heart are just now saying he's the one I want to support.

I am now wishing I had taken the time to go and see some of the candidates that I was invited to see! We've had one after the other in towns nearby, and I've been invited at least 10 times to see one or another speak. Boy, am I kicking myself for not doing that once or twice now, as I know that after tomorrow, we probably won't see any of them again! (Not nearly as much, at least!)

I'm at peace with my decision now, so I feel good about it! Now to just see how I feel tomorrow... ;)

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

I am glad that you came to a decision. I know how hard it is to finally make the leap. There are times in the election booth where my little hole puncher just hovered over the candidates in the last seconds of indecision. I honestly have never heard of Ron Paul. I will have to look him up to see what he is about.

I am so glad that you brought up the caucuses because I really was curious as to how they worked. I don't know why they are always in the same states though. One would think that they would move them around like they move the conventions? Why is that anyway? Any idea?

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Whew - I was afraid I had scared everyone off!! If you want to learn more about Ron Paul, his official website is www.ronpaul2008.com. He is a congressman from Texas, who honestly has a reputation in congress for voting no on many things, in a effort to save the taxpayers money. I don't know everything about him, but he seems to be a very commonsence man to me. He is very much Pro-Life though, so if that bothers you, he probably isn't your man! I wish I had brought this up last night now, when Melissa could have responded - if Ron Paul doesn't get enough votes in my presinct, I think I will have to switch over to someone else - my gut is saying Mike Huckabee (since I can't just jump over to the democratic caucus!), and I'd love to get Melissa's impression of him! So, Melissa, if you happen to get on here before 6 tonight or so, I'd love to hear your take on Governer Huckabee (former gov., I believe.)

I don't know why the caucuses are always done this way, Tracy! I know Iowa faught really hard to keep our spot as first in the nation - there are other states that would like to have that distinction. I very seriously didn't pay too much attention to the reasoning. But, they say we here in Iowa are a good picture of how the rest of the county will vote. Apparantly most of time whomever wins the caucuses here goes on to be the nominee. Perhaps we have a good balance of semi-urban and rural, rich and poor, young and old, I really don't know...

Anyway, enough politics! Do we have a hostess for this month? If not, I will do it (as I haven't yet), but have to warn you, it will likely be something small - with not much expense (as that's all I can do myself right now!)

Becki

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Becki, I think it would be wonderful if you hosted this month. I had thought of throwing my hat in the ring but really am too busy to give it my full attention right now. I had an idea of maybe having some type of regifting swap? I know many of us have gotten doubles of a few gardening items in some exchanges or have gotten items that they don't have any use for. Maybe we can post a list of items that we have to send out to a partner. If anyone wants any of these items then all they have to do is speak up.

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Hello Becki;
Thanks for the info. It does not look as if anyone is doing the next swap so you can certainly take it over. I think it is a great idea to keep it simple. Back when GW was small, we never traded in groups and we never sent anything that was not supposed to grow. I can remember posting a message and making a sandwich while I waited for it to download and a response to come through. My how things have changed.
I think the idea of gifts are nice but not really why I come to this website. I have very specific tastes for garden decorations. I am a minimalist so most of the stuff I have been sent has not been used. I have a box of nice garden stakes, wind socks, flags, small statues etc. My am I going on about this. Suffice to say, I will no longer be joining swaps that have stuff involved. I will always be available to provide a box if something goes wrong.
So welcome hostess becki, the KISS idea is great (Keep It Simple Stupid). Please let us know how the caucus goes, if it is fun or just a waste of time. It seems a bit strange but could be fun.
I believe the method of choosing how a state weighs in on candidates is something each state chose when they first became a state. That is why New England does the primary votes.
Here in Maine, some towns still have town meetings to decide on budgets and laws. Before I moved closer to the coast, I lived in a town that decided everything at an annual meeting in June. It was held at Town Hall and it was a hoot. Of course, we could not afford police, fire or rescue personnel. We did buy the equipment for fires and rescue but we depended on volunteers to use this equipment. It was a strange concept to a girl born and raised in NYC. My old friends and family still have a hard time believing it.
Now I am in a small city with an elected Mayor, City Council and paid police, fire and rescue personnel. This is more what I am used to. Of course, taxes are three times as much also. We pay almost $5000 a year property tax here, my last house I paid $800. Big difference.
Well I am really rambling now so I will say so long for now. diene

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

so far i'm for ron paul, he's for gun's, homeschooling and not tough guidlines, i just like him so much, not a flip flopper! i can fo for a person who thinks our property is ours!! RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Sorry for not making your "deadline", Becki! LoL
Eeek. Politics.
Hmmm...opinions on Mike, huh?? Well...I really like the guy, to be honest. I've met him a few times....May 8th is SAFE TV day in Arkansas, so he always presents an award to the station. (well, the Gov. of AR does, so this year it was obviously that other guy. Yeah, I have NO idea who the current gov of arkansas is. Beebe? Yikes.) Anyway, He was an excellent governor AND he's a very down to earth guy, which I like. No "I'm a famous guy, worship me" attitude there. LoL
I have alot of the same beliefs as Huckabee, but the only thing I disagree with is that I think church and state SHOULD be seperate..and I feel he's bringing God into the equation too often. Yes, it's great that he's Christian, and I believe that his convictions SHOULD rule his decisions...but....when church gets involved with the government, it's always bad news. Next thing you know, Sunday will be a legal thing, not an optional thing. And that would be the government choosing my day of worship. Which I totally disagree with. That's between me & God...no one else. :O)

Moving on .... T.M.I. territory there. LoL And a little off subject. But when the bunny gets started.......! LoL

Anyway.
Becki, are you hosting the next swap? That would be great! :O) Yay! And Fun!

I hope everyone has had a good week so far! Tomorrow is FRIDAY! Yay!!!

 o
RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Okay, girls, yes I will host the next swap. Give me a day or two to put it together, and I'll see what I can come up with! (I've got the first time hostess jitters!)

Thank you for the info, Melissa! I did end up voting for Ron Paul, and the Republican caucus was very different than the Democratic, in that with the Rep. one, we just voted once, and those votes just got tallied along with all the other Rep. ones. On the Dem side it is very confusing and weird, so I'm kind of glad we didn't go to that. Anyway, here is how it went:

We got there about 6:15, and there were about 30 chairs set up. Registered as Republicans, and sat down. People just kept coming and coming. We were in the meeting type room of a small fire station. They kept adding chairs, but it became quite evidnet that we were way over the fire code for that room in the fire station. So, the pulled out the fire trucks and amulance, and we all moved into the garage area. We did a head count and there were 174 people there! It was incredible! Each canditate could have 3 people talk about him for no more than 3 minutes each. No one spoke for Rudy Guiliani or John Mc Cain, one guy spoke for Fred Thompson, one guy from Utah who was just here to help with the caucuses spoke for Mitt Romney, 3 people spoke for Mike Huckabee, and 1 person, plus my husband spoke for Ron Paul. I was so proud of my hubby for going up there and saying why he was supporting him! Anyway, then we each got little piece of paper, wrote down who we were voting for, passed them in, and 4 people went in another room to count the votes - 2 to count, and 2 to oversee. While this was going on, they asked for volunteers to join the Rep. county committee, passed around a box for donations, and asked for volunteers to be delegates to the county convention. I had been reading up on this a bit, and thought it might be something I would like to do, but I'm a bit of an introvert, and didn't dare raise my hand. They got all six of their people, and then asked for anyone to be an alternate. I shot up my hand, because I was kicking myself for not offering sooner. So, I am an alternate delegate for our county Rep. convention. Why did I want to? Because I found out that the delegates that go DON'T have to vote for the people that their precinct chose. Anyway, we'll see what happens with that. Then, they came back with the results. It appears that of the 174 votes, Dave and I and the guy behind us, and the other guy that spoke for Ron Paul and ONE other person there voted for Ron! 5 votes! Oh, well! The overwhelming majority of votes in our precinct were for Mike Huckabee - like over 120 of them. And the rest were dispursed among the others, with John McCain and Mitt Romney coming in 2nd and 3rd. I think with 5 votes, Ron Paul came in 4th in our precinct. Then we were done. Pretty easy! Anyway, as you probably have seen or heard already today, Huckabee was the winner throughout the state last night, so that was good. And Ron Paul actaully got 10% of the votes, which of course I would have loved to have it be higher, but was still a pretty good amount. He finished 5th in the state, ahead of Rudy Guiliani, who only had 4% (of course he didn't campaign here anyway, so that's understandable!) Anyway, yes I would be happy to stand behind Mike Huckabee as well, so I am fairly happy with how things turned out. On the Dem. side, Obama came in first, with Edwards 2nd, and Clinton very close behind him in 3rd. Dodd and Biden have dropped out of the race. Poor Bill Richardson finished 4th, with only 2% of the vote, and he looked so sad when he gave his speech afterwards. I wanted to give him a big hug! (Of all their experience, I would say he probably DESERVES it more than most of them up there! In fact in terms of experience, Biden and Dodd probably should have done better too, but the way the Dems. do their caucus makes the results pretty crazy!) We had record turnouts all over the state, and I would say overall, it was a good day for Iowa! Anyway, I promised to tell you all about it, so I did! : )

I am glad to hear that Huckabee really is a genuine and good as he seems, Melissa. You always have to wonder how honest they are being, and I'm glad to hear that you like him!! And Michele, I am still there with you - I would love to see Paul somehow come out of this a winner! I see him as the candidate that frankly cares the most for the well being of his constituants! I like his ideas (for the most part), and think he would really change this country for the better! Anyway, enough on politics from me!!! I promise, no more, unless it's asked for!

Hope all of you are having a great day! I am off to put Lily in the tub, as while I was typing she covered herself in marker! She put polka dots all over her belly!

Oh, BTW, I'm not proofreading all that, so I'm afraid you'll have to just look past all the mistakes I'm sure I made! : )

RE: update: mnf: ornamental beauties #3

Becki,

Thank you for telling us all about the caucus process! I think most of us would never have a good understanding of the workings of it if you hadn't gone through it! That explanation was great. I actually was able to visualize the whole thing and can wrap my brain around it. I am so proud of you for volunteering to be an alternate. Way to go. LOL at Lily with the marker! Been a victim of those little imp fingers myself on many an occasion! Fast aren't they? LOL!
