NEW: January 2015 O.B.F. Members Re-Purposed Fun!

Our Bloomin Friends Friendship Swap Group (OBF) was created to have a reliable, fair and safe haven to swap and trade between the group members. If you care to join us, we would love to have you.

Please be a successful member of GardenWeb and have completed a trade with TWO or THREE of our members. Membership requests should be directed to Shirley (brittneysgran). Please take a moment to read our rules:

1. Have Fun!

2. Send your swap by the posted deadline for each swap.

3. No bickering. This is meant to be fun for everyone.

4. Send things that you, yourself, would want to receive.

5. Always include a Delivery Confirmation Number and post it when you send the package.

6. Always post what you received in trade from your swap partner.

7. You will be required to replace a swap package that does not make it to your partner, for any reason. Also, âÂÂyou'll be required to replace any items that arrive brokenâ or lostâ in transit. Thank you!

8. New members will be required to send their trades first, for the first two swaps.

Happy Saturday one and all! My sweet mail lady knew encouragement was needed when she brought me two new seed catalogs. My sweet hubby, on the other hand, had the nerve to ask if I really needed any more seeds. Ummm... Yes!

Christine- thank you, yes, at least the bottom part of the picture up to the road. The mountain is Snow Basin ski resort. There's also a lake but it's hiding under the snow and ice ðÂÂÂ

Welcome to our group Dawn. I like to see if I can revive plants as well. So sad to find them at Wal-Mart, Lowe's and K-mart and they need a drink of water so bad.

Dawn (dmkelly)-Love the picture of your place. Yes seed catalogs can chase those winter blues away.

Melinda-Thinking of you today, hugs and prayers for you.

My Cousin and her DH are visiting with us this week-end. They are house hunting here in Franklin and want to move here. They are waiting to sell their home before they make an offer on a home. Praying it will sell soon for they found the house of their dreams this week-end.

Good morning all! It's so nice to have a day off!

Susan, love the sparklers! A great way to bring in the New Years! I too tried to start lilies from scales, only tried 10 but it was fun and pretty successful. I did learn a few things, but I'm not going to tell you because that was the fun part. LOL Really, that was the fun part, like a science project in school. The information is already out there, but you finding it yourself is priceless!

Mary, Those kittens are SO CUTE! I haven't seen newborn kittens since I was a child. What FUN you are having!!!! And your sisters granddaughter must have been all smiles! The cat I have now I got through an online button group member. :o)
Your post, "mysterious duplication". gave me a big chuckle this morning!! I might just use it sometime. :o)

Dawn, Welcome to the group and thanks for telling us a little about yourself. Love the picture of where you live. So scenic and open.

Shirley, how nice to have your cousin and her husband move closer to you! I hope it happens. Are they looking to retire in Franklin? I only ask because as retirement approaches my husbands and my family are looking for ways to move closer to each other, but not too far away from kids. Of course I have a 'few' more years'.

Hurray, I get to send to Faye (nottougly)! Off to look at your page.

Sorry to end on a sad note ....
Hubbies brother died on the 3rd. We knew it was coming, lung cancer. Sad thing is I can't get anytime off work to go to his memorial. :(
The group that took over our hospital really cut down on our bereavement days. It's all about money......

    Sharon tma
Edited to say it was my husbands brother who died. Sorry about that. didn't mean to worry any one.

Although it is the beginning of this swap, I've got to say what fun I've already had. Looking at all the things you can make with Christmas Cards, actually challenging myself (just a little) with the making.

I'll never look at Christmas Cards the same way again ... I'll be thinking, 'what can I make from this one'. LOL

Happy Monday everyone. We just got back from a five day trip to Texas to visit our son, dil, and grandson. Had to be up at 4 am to get a 6:30 flight. What a fiasco. Our first flight had delays for a problem light that came on and had to be checked and then they needed to deice. (I am not a good flyer). We had a stop in St. Louis and had to get right on the next plane which was hit with turbulence the whole trip to Detroit. Then in Detroit, one of our suitcases was not there. Of course, this had the presents the kids gave us for Christmas, birthday presents we bought back for our daughter who has a bday today, and new running shoes and work shoes I bought at the outlets on Saturday. I am especially upset about the Christmas presents as one was a cancer awareness necklace that was so pretty. They felt they would find it and have it to us by tomorrow as they overnight these things with Fedex. We shall see.

Anyway, I am in need of a nap so will come back and update about two birthday cards I received from two members here. I am also going to get started on my card project after Wednesday. I have two full days ahead of me at work with inventory. UGH.

    Later, Margo

Sharon-My Cousin's husband is retired and she can retire early at age 55 (she has 2 years to go). I'm so glad she is retiring from the Police Dept. I have worried about her so much since these last aggressive actions towards Police Officers. She worked her way up to Sargent but is excited to move back to the Mountains. Sorry to hear about your Brother-In-Law.

Margo-I am not a good flyer either, really makes me nervous. Sure hope the suitcase shows up.

Shirley, I'm so with you! My hubby's been a police officer for the last 22 years and is retiring in 10 days. I've always worried about him but more so the last few years. The job isn't what it used to be!

Margo, I'm glad you got home safe. For us last week, it took longer getting out of the Atlanta airport that it did to fly cross country. I know the science behind those big birds but it still doesn't seem natural.

Today was my first day back to work after two and a half weeks off. I see comfy clothes and an early bed time in my future.

I'm happy to be sending to you. It has been awhile.

You are all so quick to get your things out. After tomorrow, I have five straight days off so the Christmas things will be put away, the house will be cleaned, and I will get my project done.

I can't believe how cold it is here. Tomorrow is going to be in the negative with up to minus 15 or more windchills. Schools are already closed for tomorrow. Hopefully after I get the above jobs done, I will be able to start planning gardens for next year. :)

I am tardy on thanking some OBF friends for the birthday cards and goodies I have been sent this week. I am looking forward to spending my birthday just chilling around the house. My hubby is working so we will celebrate another day.

Thank you to Sheri for the card with pinwheel yellow zinnia seeds, pinwheel orange zinnia seeds, calendula "oktoberfest", green eyes rudbeckia, and persian carpet zinnia as well as a package of pretty flower stickers.

Thank you Susan for the pretty flowered card and the cosmos brightness mixed seeds.

And thank you to Nicole for the pretty handmade card containing cute little seed packages with a cute rabbit on them, little ziplocks for seeds, and handmade address labels.

What great cards and goodies you have all sent and I haven't even had my birthday yet. It is a great beginning. I just love planting seeds from my gardenweb friends and watching them grow into beautiful flowers.

I hope everyone is having a great week so far, I know I am.

For everyone who told me "thank you" for this swap... you're VERY welcome! I had a good time making mine, too. I'll never throw-out another Christmas card again.

I am keeping track of all the packages sent and received. I'll post that closer to the week of January 19th.

Margo, what are you going to do on your birthday? Please let us know if you ever get your luggage back.

Who is winter-sowing this year? I'm starting the butterfly bush seeds that Mary and Erica game me. :) They're inside where they have warmth and light.

Since we are working on a move, I'm planting a lot in Root Pouches. I bought a few 5 gallon ones with handles and I really like them. When I got them I thought they were too small, but they work because the roots are "air-pruned". They told me even the 3 gallon ones can be used for peppers and tomatoes, because of this growing method. I learn something new every year.

I posted the link below, in case anyone else wants to try it. They're very inexpensive compared to other containers. The grey ones last 3 years. They also sell brown ones that last longer, but they cost a bit more.

Sheri, I did in fact get the suitcase back and nothing was missing. While searching the inner pouch, I found a note saying they had searched it. I believe this was the reason it got misplaced. They also didn't seem to have zipped it up all the way. They sent it through Fedex as is. That means there was no means taken to secure it, not tying, no tape, nothing. Anyone could have reached in and taken something. I was not happy. I can imagine people get this happening that do lose stuff. Doesn't seem like you can do anything about it either since it goes through so many hands.

Had to bring in the outdoor kitties last night. They usually spend the night in the garage but it got to the negatives so we brought them in. I am sure they are loving it. Out again today but back in again tomorrow night.

Wow, Nicole. Great pictures. Way to show off my Christmas card crafts!

Sheri -- Thanks for the info on the Root Pouches. I'm familiar with the concept of air pruning and was planning on using some of the cloth Walmart bags this year. Those root pouches look very similar, but I imagine they might last longer. That's a great alternative (and very cost efficient).
Also, if I haven't said so already, thanks for hosting the swap. As you can see, I had fun doing the crafts. Hubby said I went a bit overboard, but it's not like you get a lot of excuses to do crafts as an adult! Good times!

Dawn1972 welcome to our wonderful goup of OBFERS. Enjoy and have fun!!

Dawn (dmkelly), only a few days left until your husband retires from the police force......certainly lots of peace and relief for you. Many thanks for his service!!

    Sheri, when is moving day?

Margo, glad you received your luggage with nothing stolen but I do not get why they can not at least zip up/tape up your bag. They always go through my bags and leave little love notes that they did it. I have no issues with that. But they always zip up/tape up the bag or whatever when they are done to make it securley closed. I think some of these people who do the checking just do not care as it does not belong to them. What a shame!

Happy Birthday wishes to Laura and Margo. Enjoy your special days next week!!

    Happy Thursday to all!

Erica-Great job on your box to Nicole. That's what is so fun about crafts, everyone has such great ideas. Love it all.

Dawn1972-I am mailing your box tomorrow. I had lots of fun crafting for you.

Dawn (dmkelly) - congrats on your husband's retirement. I'm sure a lot of stress worrying about him.

Please pray as I go to a Specialist tomorrow and see what went wrong back in Oct. on my foot surgery. I can't believe it has been 3 months and I still cannot walk on my foot. I'm really having a hard time in fear I will be told this is it and I will never be able to walk again.

Shirley -- I hope all goes well for you tomorrow. Hopefully they will tell you that they can patch you up and have you good as new in no time!

Margo and Laura -- Happy Birthday!

Sheri -- I received your wonderful pack today! It included 3 cute card pouches, plant labels, and a pack of Pink Surprise Calendula! I'll definitely be using those pouches next year for xmas, the labels couldn't have come at a better time (I was completely out), and the seeds were something right off my want list! Thank you so much, Sheri, for the fantastic pack and the fun, crafty swap.

Erica, thank you for the photo of my seed gift boxes. I'll attach a link, below, to show how I made them. I do love those Root Pouches. I wish I'd discovered them sooner... especially for potatoes.

Jamie, I'm excited to see what you made. Thank you!

Annie, we had one house in mind this winter, but it's a short sale and It's taking forever. We may move as soon as March, if a different "move in ready" house pops-up that we love.

Healing prayers for you, Shirley. Please keep us posted.

Such cute crafts are being posted! Now I know I'm really not crafty! I'll just apologize to you now Margo. Lol!

I am off to Denver today, out this afternoon and back Sunday morning so it's quite the quick trip. My daughter's wedding dress is in and she wants me to be there for the fitting. Taryn isn't getting married until August but she's so planned out and prepared that we could have it next week and no one would be the wiser. Such a funny girl! Here's to fun and food and a little bit of shopping!

Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Creativity abounds. Dawn, it's fine if your not crafty, I will enjoy it all the same. Maybe you underestimate your abilities. That's a whirlwind trip but how exciting to see your daughter in her dress. Emily just needs her dress hemmed because size was perfect. Unfortunately, with all the layers, I am going to guess it is going to cost a pretty penny to have it hemmed.

Thank you for the birthday greetings. No real plans. Do plan on going to the university rec center to sign up for a new semester. My friend and I walk there three times a week but now that the track is open again, she will treadmill while I run. We also plan to do some swimming at the pool.

My son and I got our flu shot this morning. I hope it kicks in in time to avoid getting any germ this year. They do say it isn't quite the right one for what is going around this year but might help if in fact you do get the bug.

Heading over to rate and reviews to give everyone the credit due for the swaps I did in December.
    Have a good Friday, Margo

Sharon, did you take photos of your Christmas card crafts just in case? You can always post your photos and still be entered in the contest.
