Slow growth of bulb seedlings?

Posted by kirsitn Oslo (My Page) on

The last year I've sown several different species of South African bulbs and none of them seem to grow nearly as quickly as I'm used to with for instance Allium.

So I'm wondering if I should repot them, give them less sandy soil or more fertilizer? Or are SA bulbs simply slow growers?

They get fluorescent light all day (24 h), don't know if the lack of "night" is a problem? (It works well with my other seedlings, they seem to grow more quickly this way.)

The species in question are:

Romulea (hallii, kamisensis, komsbergensis, monadelpha, subfistulosa),
Geissorhiza (radians, corrugata, monanthos),
Ixia (longituba, monadelpha),
Sparaxis grandiflora,
Gladiolus watermeyeri
