Gloriosa vines. different cutivars? Photos?

Does anyone know of a web site that shows the various Gloriosa vine flowers which are native to Southern Africa? There seems to be a large number of Rothschildiana cultivars. I notice one Carsonii and I think Superba is part of the Rothschildiana family? Where does Lutea fit in? Is cross breeding resulting in various 'types' or are they Species?

Also, which nurseries sell the different types?

Any sites which show photograps, correctly identified?

Thanks.

Lutea is a variety of Gloriosa superba. I think I'm correct in saying the most commonly grown one is Gloriosa superba Rothschildiana.

I know of nurseries in the UK sell them, but that isn't of much help to you, sorry.

JoanMary:
I saw that Bulbmeister has some different gloriosas for sale.
Lucky you to have the climate where they can be grown in the ground.

Here is a link that might be useful: Gloriosa

Hi,

I was just searching around killing time instead of working on lectures and saw this post!! I show a half-dozen Gloriosa superba cultivars on my web site (carsnoii, greenii, plantii, lutea, rothschildiana, oriental super). There are also pink and white cultivars out of Japan which are either just new to the market or will be coming on soon, but I do not know of anyone selling them as of yet. They are pretty vines :o) Dan

A webpage for referrence. Maybe someone will be interresting.

http://www.tnsmpb.tn.gov.in/images/GLORIOSA SUPERBA Linn.pdf

Here are bigginning of the article.
The genus Gloriosa is comprised of about 10 to 15 known species
* Gloriosa superba Linn,
* G luteo
* G plantii
* G.latifolia
* G magnifica
* G rothschildiana
* G abysstinica
* G longifolia
* G simplex
Gloriosa is monobasic with a genetic base x = 11.
Out of the 10 elemental species, G.superba, G.lutea and G.plantii are diploids (2n=22); G.carsonii, G.virescens and G.richmondensis are tetradploids (2n=44) and G.rothschildiana,
G.latifolia and G.magnifica are octoploids (2n=88).

In general, octoploid species are comparatively short statured and constitute a medium group of plants. The important species found in India are G superba and G.rothschildiana.

Here is the link of a wholesaler in Japan.

Saw this growing in a roadside flower boutique in Amsterdam, I think I recall the label saying it was a Rothschildiana, as you can see it has a lot more pink in the blooms than straight Gloriosa superba <<< what a magnificent name too!
