Last year I took in my Agapanthus for the winter. They are tight in there containers. During the spring and summer they grew, but did not flower.

I do not want to repeat this problem this year. I am in zone 4 in CT. My
season is short. Any info ...Please Advise

Hi there,
The main requirement for aggies to bloom is sunshine.
They may also respond well to a bigger pot.
Dee.

My Agapanthus didn't bloom for a couple of years either, and they are in ideal climate (Zone 9, full sun). Last year I mixed in my wife's maple syrup (Shhhhh...) with Miracle Grow, and they responded with a symphony of blooms!

Apparently they have a sweet-tooth. This year, I'm just mixing in a little sugar instead. We'll see.

Hi Rubi,
Where is your agapanthus now? Still inside? Put your agapanthus IMMEDIATELY in a sunny window until almost the end of May--when the weather will be guaranteed not to have a frost. They love sunshine and will respond. They also love water and I don't think you can overwater one....honestly! Also, do NOT PUT THEM IN A LARGER POT unless the pot is broken! LOL Agapanthus prefers to be pot-bound in order to bloom.

I can't comment on the sweet tooth, however, that's a riot! Never heard of that!

I agree with Deb that light is the biggest factor. I think that supplimenting the MiracleGrow with seaweed extract can also be helpful.

Agapanthus is like a weed in my area. They are in the ground, in poor soil, but they do get lots & lots of heat. Many plants will burn in the (local) sun, but not the agapanthus.

I'm looking for more Agapanthus advice. I live in Houston and have several plants in south facing beds. The spring to summer blooms are wonderful and seem to last forever, but that's it. No repeats from Late June on. Additionally, many virtually disappear over the remainder of the summer through fall. I fertilize once a month w/ Miracle Grow. I amend my beds yearly with Osmocote, manure compost, and sand. Please advise.
