Has anyone ordered from Arrowhead Alpines

| Recently I posted a thread asking for the names of SA plants for my area. I'm really excited about one of the plants suggested -- Buddleja Saligna. The only place I can find it on the web is Arrowhead Alpines.
Before I order, has anyone had any experience ordering from this nursery?
Thanx

they have a great catalog but havent ordered from them, though. however, www.heronswood.com (in washington state) has saligna and their service is quite good---think they may have at least one other s.a. species as well. check them out they have an excellent selection of a whole lot of things.

thanx george. don't suppose you've grown this butterfly bush? i'm getting conflicting information about the growing conditions it prefers. Dan Hinkley says that it likes cooler temperatures, but a lot of the internet references say that it can withstand hot/dry temperatures. Your opinion??? Maybe I should post another thread . . .

my impression is that hinkley is indicating that it will grow under his cool maritime conditions not that it requires it. in "trees of southern africa" k. c. palgrave says that it grows on "dry hillsides, wooded valleys, at the margins of forest and in coastal thickets," sounds like a generalist to me. furthermore in the same entry, he characterizes it as "fast growing and hardy" the "hardy" designation is used down there as indicating tolerance of normal s.a. conditions of heat and drought not necessarily in the way the term is used here as a measure of resistance to frost. i have not tried this particular species myself but if it is anything like its relatives you should be getting at least a very tough plant in general and its case especially a heat tolerant plant---though i think as a freshly planted baby you would be advised to water well until full established and then we will all see.

Hi George, I'm glad to hear you say that! I was thinking that *maybe* what Dan was eluding to, but I wasn't sure. Anyway, I ordered two to test with. If they do well for me, I'll need about 50 more -- I want to plant them as a formal hedge to line one side of our property. Will keep everyone posted. Thanx again. joyceb

A late response -- sorry. We've purchased from Arrowhead Alpines on site, but never ordered. The quality is always high. Cheers, JB
