Landscape design with native plants

I'm a rising senior at Haverford College in PA, and I'm hoping to apply for a grant (The Watson Fellowship) after I graduate to study native plant use in landscape design around the world. Does anyone have some suggestions for places I should go in South Africa, people I should contact, or books or websites I should look at? Thanks!
