Lotononis and Crotalaria

Posted by csraman 9a, 9b Texas, USA (My Page) on

Hello again,

I forgot to say that I am in Texas and have already tried some of the seed vendors in Africa, such as Silverhill Seeds without much success.

Both plants are legumes (Fabaceae).

Any help would be appreciated.

Best wishes

RE: Lotononis and Crotalaria

You may have a tough time growing Lotononis in heavy clay soils of Houston unless you are in the sandy soils north
of Houston. Both plants being legumes they may have a hard
seed coat needing to be treated with sulfuric acid(Amount
of time to soak is unknown)so water can get to the embryo
for germination. Try some Rhizobium so as the seed germinates it has the right bacteria to start the nitrogen fixing process. It would be a good Idea to talk to your seed source to see what temperature is optimal for
germination and any pre-treatments needed.
