My 8 yr old clivia is finally going to bloom. Are they self compatible and can I pollinate just as I do my Amaryliss? Any tips or hints I should know?
TIA, Rosa

RE: newbie pollination help

Hi,

I don't know if they are self-compatible. But, to be on the safe side, if you want to have seed, get yourself to one of the Clivia specialist forums and ask for pollen.

Amaryllid pollen is typically viable for weeks at or near room temperature when dry. You can ask someone to clip their anthers and send them to you in the mail for use. You can play the part of the "bee."

Cordially,

Conroe Joe
