Fireglow Salvia - anyone familiar with this Salvia?

I received a cutting of a Salvia recently, and was told it's called Fireglow. The person giving me the cutting said he knew little about it, and couldn't find any info about it. I did a google search, and had the same results. He was able to tell me it's tender, and that it's red with a black lip (is that what it's called - the petal that hangs down?). Does anyone here know anything about it? I'm assuming that Fireglow is a cultivar name, but I wonder what specie it is. Thanks for any help on this.

Sally

It sounds like another name for salvia coccinea 'forest fire'. I could be wrong.

I believe when serached for info on my forest fire that name came up..something about same seed batch, but d ifferent characteristic.you need to search botony.can get all kinds of growing info from schools on salvia and the things they do to them.
was summer time.I got my pack from here.they look like picture but the reds a lil darker.I have lady in red salvia...if compare the blooms lady is lighter red coloring.they grew about 18 -21 inches tall, got woody stemed& I loved them.

Here is a link that might be useful: seed pack

I'm hoping it's not a S. coccinea, since they've taken over my yard and I finally started weeding them out last summer. Well, if it is, at least it's a different variety.

Thanks for the help.

Sally, have you compared pictures of it. It's not just the flowers but the you can compare them by the leaves. There's quite a few red and red orange flowers, too many to mention.

I did go through Betsy Clebshe's (Boy, I have no idea how to spell her last name!) book, but the cutting I have is pretty immature, so it's hard to judge, yet. I'll be able to tell a lot more this summer after it's had a chance to grow. Thanks for the help and ideas.

Don't know about Fireglow (tho' it sounds interesting), but Forest Fire is S. coccinea, and very impressive with black stems against the red blooms. The flower isn't as orange as your picture, at least in my garden.

Sally,

Can you post a photo of it? It is really hard to get info on it without seeing it.

Thanks.
