Thanks for posting that, Robin. I haven't looked at all the photos yet, but boy... his S. lasiantha sure looks a lot more colorful than mine [from Cabrillo College]. Is Rolando willing to do seed trades? I still speak Spanish quite well (Univ. minor degree). !Gracias!

Amazing how things grow in different climates. Yes he will trade seeds, I know he is desperate to obtain seeds of Salvia sessei.

He has some great shots of Salvia 'Amistad'. Anybody know if and when this will become available in the US?

Salvia 'Amistad' could prove to be sensational! Currently under trial and subject to Plant Breeder's rights....though it is being distributed in the UK by a nursery this year....rightly or wrongly.

Sterile hybrid, like 'Purple Majesty' but much more compact, and will flower all year in a suitable climate.

May be available in the USA next year. I smuggled cuttings from Argentina 2 years ago into the UK...my garden visitors this year were all gobsmacked with this Salvia!!! Have been advised not to show this on my site whilst it is still under trial, but it should be there in mid-March.

Wow, Amistad is an awesome-looking salvia. It pretty much looks like it could be called salvia black & purple. I've wanted to grow purple majesty for a couple years because I love the color, but I've been scared off by its size, late-blooming, and brittleness. I hope Amistad is a big winner that gets distributed over here in the US asap. I'll be first in line to buy one.
