Early blooming fall Salvias

I feel I am fearfully out of touch on Salvias these days and I am wondering what I'm missing. One of the reasons I love involuctrata is because it blooms earlier than sages like mexicana and leucantha. What should I be trying that will hit its stride by late August or earlier and be happy in humid New Jersey? Waverly always did well here, and mimiata is almost a late sage, not getting going completely until around August 1st. Van Remsen falls into that last group too.
