Growing E. Asian Salvia in Hot Climates

Greetings,

Can anyone recommend Asian (mostly eastern Asia) salvia that can grow well (and

bloom) in hot climates?

Here is some of my experience from Austin, TX and Albuquerque, NM, in the US:

S. nubicola / glutinosa (highly adaptable = easy in both places!)

S. chinensis (easy in Austin, blooms in shade in summer!!!! May be cold tender

in ABQ)

S. miltiorrhiza (spell?; easy in both places, maybe short lived in hotter

climate (Austin)).

S. japonica (I think this is the one with very rosette complex leaves and small

white/pale blue flowers; has done well in NM)

S. trijuga (maybe an annual in these type of climates, has done well in Austin)

I may be forgetting a few, but lots of others have died, not sure of exexact ID

as they never flowered and I am organizationally challenged....

All of the above have been grown in part/mostly SHADE and richer soil with

regular water, although somehow I suspect that S. nubicola may be more adaptable

to other conditions and I will try to experiment.

Any other inputs from folks with experience in HOT climates (and speculation

from experts in others) please add to this list.

Best Regards,

John R in NM
