Tell me about 'Blue Hill' salvia

I already grow East Friesland & Marcus and like them alot. But I thought I'd try a cluster of three 'Blue Hill' because of the more "true" blue color. Will 'Blue Hill' do as well as 'East Friesland' has done? Is its foliage as nice as East Friesland (I don't like the coarse foliage of May Night)? Does it flop over more? I live in NorthCentral Texas (northwestern suburb of Dallas).

Please don't recommend Victoria' salvia farinacea for a "true" blue, because it does not come back reliably for me and I am looking for a reliable perennial.

Nuff said (or not said). I'll stay away from this variety, and stick with my tried and true 'East Friesland' & 'Marcus'.

Randy, I have not grown Blue Hill, so can't tell you about color, but I do grow Snow Hill and it is a really nice plant. It grows about 15" tall and about 18" in diameter. It has a growth habit closer to Marcus than May Night.

Betsy Clebsch reports (in her Salvia book) that S. nemorosa 'BlauhÃ¼gel' ('Blue Hill') is one of the cultivars that "are very hardy and will easily withstand temperatures well below 0Â°F." She goes on to say that the cultivars "are tough, healthy plants that easily adapt to many garden situations."

Over the past 5 or 6 years, I have tried and tried to grow the blue salvias in different areas of my gardens to no avail. Last summer I got the Blue Hill, and it croaked as have the B&B's along with several others. I finally have given up on them.

I hope that you will have better luck with them than I have, because they are so pretty.
