That's a nice one! I wonder if the color was pumped up in the photo to increase sales. Did you buy?

    Gerris,

This is actually a beautiful plant, just as in the picture. Staking it helps as the flowering stems can get a bit floppy.

    Robin.

Thanks, Robin, I'll have to look for it!

Mine is blooming, but I hope the flower size is larger, and my current plant is just showing the effects of being in a pot in my greenhouse. The flowers are well under an inch. I was expecting them to be about 1.5 inches (+4 cm)

Rich, what species is this? Will you be propagating it for sale?

Alas, it is a patented plant. It is in the "mainstream" nursery trade.

Not is it only patented, with exclusive rights to one or two licensee propagators, but the latter also have control of how and where they choose to market the plant.

It remains to determine if they are wiling to sell plugs to anyone, or limit sales to big box stores, in the hope of using plant buzz to increase traffic to the big dogs.

I think they don't understand that people like ourselves aren't the archetypical customers defined by focus groups.

At least Suncrest Nurseries has granted secondary license to Plant Delights for its Salvia greggii hybrids.

It sets plenty of seeds, which have so far come true.

Sorry, but I don't have any currently.

I did buy two, one is puny but the other is growing. Hope to have seeds one day! No clue on its winter hardiness. But it sure is pretty. No blooms yet.

Seems to be perfectly hardy in England. Just about to flower!

Unfortunately, my plant croaked with the recent rains we had. I'll try it again next year.

Just saw this one at Rassell's Nursery in London, on our trip to England. As far as I know it has not come to the west coast of US yet, but I want it.
