Red salvias

Does anyone know the name of the typical red salvia that is commonly sold in nurseries and garden shops? Is it S. splendens? Also, is this supposed to be a slow-growing plant? I have 6 of them and all they seem to want to do is bloom, bloom, bloom. But they don't grow. I even tried snipping off the blooms as they show up but this doesn't help. What am I doing wrong? I've never grown them before. Thanks.

They are Salvia splendens and mine never grew over 12 inches tall but they did get bushier.

Thanks, Penny. I think the care tag that came with them said they'd grow to between 12" and 36" but mine are stuck at 7" at best. I do see some new leaves, but they are only adding about 1/16 of an inch to the height, lol. They do love to bloom though. Thank you for your reply!

I think soil conditions and heat and humidity can affect the size of plants.
