White Salvia ID?

I found it in a cottage-type garden in a small-town historical district, nobody home so I couldn't ask (& so many times, these old homes now belong to people who don't know).

The small leaves are on this plant, the larger ones seem to be tree seedlings that have grown up in the flowerbed, & I don't know what the red flowering plant is.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

This looks like a white variety of Salvia greggii to me. These are reasonably popular among the general public (i.e. not a rare salvia expected only among collectors). I think the red flowered plant looks like flowering quince, and the larger leaves look like a tree seedling.

I agree, it looks like Salvia greggii 'Alba'.

If you are to the northwest of San Antonio along I-10, such as Boerne or Kerrville, there is almost a certainty it is var Alba. I got mine from the late Carroll Abbott of Kerrville, who collected Texas wildflowers and initiated the wildflower movement in that part of Texas with his newsletter. He also had a backyard nursery and sold in that area as well. He, Lynn Lowry, Benny Simpson, and Barton Warnock pretty much covered southern Texas and adjacent Mexico in the 70s and 80s looking for Salvias and other horticulturally valuable plants.

Wow!

Y'all are fast!

Yes, I forgot to mention that the larger leaves are tree seedlings, & the flowering quince was identified for me on the Texas Forum.

This garden is in Lancaster, immediately south of Dallas between I35 (San Antonio highway) & I-45 (Houston highway).

Thanks so much!
