to divide or not to divide?

I have an Autumn sage and I'm not sure if they are supposed to be divided or just pruned and propogated from cuttings and seeds.
On the Texas A&M website division was not listed as a form of propagation, although dividing was listed as a form a of propagation with most other perrenials. I've read about dividing them, but I'm not sure it would work and I don't want to harm my plant. It looks like it's ready to be divided because it has sparse foilage in teh middle part of the plant.

RE: to divide or not to divide?

Autumn Sage, S. greggii, doesn't get divided. If you want more plants you must grow them from rooted stems. Only Salvias like S. leucantha, that actually make a clump, can be divided.

As far as pruning goes there have been some excellent "how tos" already given on this site. Try doing a search for "pruning"... which can be found at the bottom of the main page of this forum.
