Salvia leaves burnt by soil??

I purchased some bulk soil from a landscape material yard. It was supposed to be sandy loam, humus with some potash and 2% chicken manure. I put my Corrugata, Chiquita in one bed with a Chamaedryoides. Then put my Greggii Teresa's in an old wheelbarrow with it. I looked this morning and all have purple to black leave damage - the Chiquita & the Corrugata look horrible!!! I am beside myself. I immediately removed them from this soil into temporary pots of potting mix. Has anyone had this kind of experience before? I called the place of purchase and the owner just can't understand what could have happened. These plants were beautiful, green and thriving when I planted them a week ago. I have 2 large raised beds filled with this soil - aghhhhhh. I can't imagine having to shovel it all back out after shoveling it out of a truck and then into the beds in the first place. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
