salvia "Rome on Fire"

Can anyone tell me anything about this salvia? I bought a clearance sale pack of these along with some geums and it seems to be coming back up this year but can't find any info on it. I don't even know if its a perennial or annual. Any ideas?

RE: salvia "Rome on Fire"

This is probably an invalid and "commercial" name for S. roemeriana or S. coccinea, the former, I suspect, having seen a poor photo on a Dutch website. Really suggest that you don't get too excited about Salvias from Holland. The way that they sell plants with "new" names makes me angry! Companies world-wide import the plants, and sell them with incorrect names. This happens a lot in the UK, even highly-regarded places such as RHS Wisley import the Salvias from Holland, and sell them with incorrect names! Really not helpful!!!
