Seeds are sprouting...

Black and blue were the first, after about five days. They are starting to stand up and shedding the seed shell. 23 out of 24 seeds B&B seeds sprouted. Now some s. Greggii Dark Dancer and s. Patens are opening, after eight days.

This is so much fun to watch. Alan Alda had a program on PBS recently about all different types of seeds. Imagine planting a fourty pound seed in your garden. Some of what I saw then is happening to these seeds. I wish han a microscope. Seeing how all the seeds are on the surface of the seed mix makes easy to watch if you a strong magnifing glass.

Question... Does letting them bloom the first season take away from root growth? Maybe prune them for half the season then let them bloom? I can't wait see what I kind of mix there is, but want a strong root system for them.

Got to love nature
