I have a similar situation and the evening sun don't seem to matter as much as afternoon sun..... at least it hasn't been aproblem for my salvias.

I would like to know about 'sun' as the label I bought said full sun. Well does this mean morning sun is enough or all day sun?

ellix, that's the question... full sun generally means more than 8 hours of it. But, full sun in Hawaii, is WAY different than full sun in arid California... Full sun in GA may mean like 6 hours sun here... :o)

I agree with Heathen.... full sun in the SW isn't the same at full sun in the SE. I've had several "full sun" salvias toast in Ca's sun, and they need and get morning only in my gardens. Unfortunately, sometimes experimenting is the only way you find out what works in your locality.

My full sun salvias do well in morning sun till about 1:00 in the afternoon and then dappled in the heat of the day and I am in NY.

I guess the rule is, the hotter your sun is, the less you need. I've grown many full sun plants in only afternoon sun. While on the other side of the house, many plants that would prefer more shade have done fairly well in sun until noon. In both cases they get about the same hours of sun. All this seems to vary depending on the species, and can only be determined through experimentation.
