How to keep it going?

Hi,
I've spent years growing some annuals, but mostly perennials. I bought a deck rail flower pot and some red salvia, in hopes of giving my hummingbirds more to visit. I bought ones that already have about 3" of flowers on them. How do I keep them producing all summer long? Do I cut them back after they're done flowering? Thanks!

Yes, deadheading will keep them blooming.

So when the blossom starts to look bad, I cut it off, right below it?

I'd look down the stem a bit and cut just above the next set of leaves; this can be very close, but sometimes is a bit further down.
