Newbie to Salvias... compact s greggii/microphyllas?

Hi everyone,

I would like to use salvia greggii and microphyllas in a narrow planting bed (3' deep, from house to the lawn) in my front yard. I like that they bloom all summer without much water. And they're gorgeous.

I made a very obviously newbie mistake and trusted the description on the "Hot Lips" plants I bought at the nursery. They said it grows to about 3' x 3', but I now know that it really spreads out much more than 3' wide and around. On the drive home from that purchase I saw a mound of Hot Lips in a yard that was easily 8'-10' in all directions. Then I googled it and learned that it spreads like that *always*. Yikes!

Are there any upright greggii and/or microphyllas that will stay roughly 2'x2' or 3'x3' max? I'm looking for a roundish and compact plant with upright wispy branches. I don't have a lot of room for plants to sprawl around on the ground.

What about these... which I went back to the nursery and bought, after realizing my 'Hot Lips' mistake:

-Salvia Mesa Azure

-Salvia Mesa Purple

-Salvia Microphylla Flower Child

-Salvia Greggii Playa Rosa

Thanks!!!
