I don't think youu have to worry about it being invasive. Only a few salvia tend to get out of control for me and that on isn't a problem. If you want to make sure, the dead head it after the flowers are done but before any seed ripens. this may encourage more blooming for you as well.

Are you thinking of clary sage, S. sclarea? I found several that self seeded even though I obsessively deadheaded last year. Salvia 'Blue Queen' hasn't self seeded at all. I grew mine from seed & really like it. Also really like 'Rose Queen'. Enjoy & don't worry about invasiveness with that one!

Tricia, I don't blame you for wanting to be cautious. I don't like perennials that run rampant either. But you have nothing to fear with salia 'Blue Queen'. My mom grows it, and it does not spread. In fact, all the salvia nemerosa's that I have grown have been extremely good citizens in the garden. If you ever run across the dwarf variety 'Marcus', I recommend buying that one too. It's my favorite.
