need tips on caring for salvia

Hi, I am a newbie to Salvia. I have several salvia, some second year plants. I am not sure what a couple of them are but they are similar to others that I have....May Night and Blue Hill. What I want to know....should I cut the plumes back after they have flowered? If so, how far?

Thanks!

just to the bottom of the flower stalk; new ones will com up on either side of where it was.... and may have already done so.

    Hi Westelle,

Do you mean that within the same growing year there will be new flowering shoots that grow up to replace blooms that I have harvested? My mom told me if I clipped the flowers the plant would rebloom that same summer. I did that last year and had no reblooms, but I wonder if I clipped them too low down to the ground.

    Thanks!

You can just break- off/out the stalk right in the middle of the \l/ . I don't even cut them, just break the old stem out of the middle of the new growth.
