Salvia vaseyi in California

ccroulet

Salvia vaseyi is sparingly distributed along the western foothills of the Colorado Desert subdivision of the Sonoran Desert. This species is quite similar in many respects (including the odor of the foliage and stems) to S. apiana, and I suspect they are very closely related. A representative GPS location of the plants in the photos is 33.63228 N, 116.40446 W, 2842 ft. elev. This is about 6 miles south of Palm Desert, Riverside Co., Calif. Photos taken 8 May 2008.
