Something interesting...

Something interesting...well, not earth-shattering, but interesting. I've been rooting salvias in water...glass jar set inside something in case of spills, etc....and finding small puddles on the sill, counter..s.confertiflora actually 'wicks' the water up and out through the leaves and drips off the ends of the leaves. I've not encountered this with any others to date. Also salvia 'Mulberry Jam' is the fastest to root...roots really quickly.

Perhaps this is the combination of surface tension of the water and the fine hairs in the stem and leaves. If not, maybe this is a defensive reaction to too much water.

They just really suck that water up....and I can see how the water level has dropped more than in the surrounding containers. Of course is has...lol..it's all on the counter. Makes me wonder about a difference in watering for the confertiflora in the ground. I have two in the ground and one seems to wilt frequently, not getting as much water there....
