Edible flowers of inedible salvias

I feel like someone has been hiding from me how unbelievably good certain salvia flowers taste from even the non-culinary sages. I can't stop grazing on the S. clevelandii blooms in my yard that are sweeter even than those from S. elegans that I've always eaten. And I tasted a delicate S. apiana bloom out of curiosity and ended up grabbing handfuls of them - a truly unique, amazing flavor. S. mellifera and leucophylla were good too.

Those hummingbirds know what they are doing.

Yhank you! very few people look to these plants a food source. You can also try Chia seed either S.hispanica or
columbarae9hope i spelled that right) high in omega 3 more easily digested than flax seed.

What did you think, Wantonamara? I wish I had more access to S. apiana petals. If I had only known this when I lived in Ojai.

The other edible flower I like to eat that everybody seems to ignore is the scotch broom that's so invasive here - such a nice, nutty taste to them.

Sadly I learned a few years back that while deer won't eat the plants they do love salvia flowers.
