Yellow leaves on Salvia??????

Good Morning from SE Michigan!!

This year we tried someting new and went to annual salvia, it is still early in the season however the leaves are turning yellow.

Does anyone have thoughts of why, are we watering too much too little?? Also there is an overhead sprinkling system that goes on once a day in that bed for all the prennials that are in the bed. The reason we used annual salvia this year was to bring in the Hummers. It is front of a fountain and we usually have used cosmos.

Up for suggestions!!!

Yellow leaves on Salvia usually means low nitrogen, or possible root damage. As you guessed, these conditions can be caused by too much watering. Is your soil heavy or in a low spot that collects water? If you have a fast-draining soil, a slow release fertilizer will solve the nitrogen problem.

Since tropical sages are fast growing, loss of lower leaves is common, especially if they are deeply shaded by upper leaves.
