May night Salvia

I have planted 2 May Night Salvias (is it also known by another name) in my flower bed. If I deadhead it, do I trim the entire long thin shaft that the flowers bloomed on. The flowers get the afternoon sun, from about 11 until the end of the day. I am a very new gardener, but am enjoying it immensely!

RE: May night Salvia

Deadheading your May Night (Mainacht)is not necessary
unless you want to remove the old spent blooms for asthic
reasons.Right below the first bloom you should see
secondary growth that is where your new blooms are developing. Remove just the bloom just above that secondary growth. Does that make sense?
