Red Mountain Sage -- adding lime

S. oresbia or S. darcyi (depending on who you talk to)

This is growing quite well for me in north Texas. But I understand that it likes/requires a bit of lime in the soil to really prosper. This might be a stupid question but -- what is the best way to feed lime? Is there an organic fertilizer that already has lime in it? How much should I put down?

I also plan to cut it back a bit this weekend (it's over 3' tall), as I've read that it should be cut back regularly. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated.
