May Night Salvia drooping because of rain?

Is there anything I can do to help my May Night Salvia stop drooping over towards the ground because of a lot of rain? They were looking very nice until we got a ton of rain. What can I do to help?

Also should i dead head all of the dead flowers to help sprout new flowers? Thanks

The plant should perk back up once it dries out for a few days. Yes, you should deadhead it just to the base of the flower stem.

In fact, deadheading will lighten the weight of the stems and assist them in standing up straighter.

We had the same problem with our Caradonna Salvia and all the rain we recently received. I just cut back the whole plant and I am hoping it reblooms.

Your success will depend on whether you have a raised bed, especially if you have a relatively non porous clay soil. Friends in the Baton Rouge areas have lost plants in raised, sandy beds especially if there has been a lot of standing water for 3-4 days or more.

Air for the roots is the key.
