Which Salvia is this?

Can someone help Id this, and possibly tell me how best to care for it? A helper at the nursery told me to pinch it back for new growth, but I'm lost. Where to pinch, and will ther be any new growth this late in season?

Looks like one of the many forms of Salvia nemorosa.
Cutting back dead flowering stems should encourage new flowering ones.

If the leaves are kinda leathery it could be Salvia x superba "Meadow Queen". If it is, you can just snap off the dead spike and it will rebloom until frost.
