Saving Salvia B & B bareroots?

It's doubtful that my B&B will survive the winter here, so I was wondering if after a frost kills off the top, can I dig up the root, put it in a baggie, and store it in the vegetable drawer in the refigerator? It stays a steady 40 degrees. Has anyone tried this, and if so, would you wrap the root in sphagnum moss to keep it moist, or let it get drier?

Another question, what do you do with rooted cuttings over winter - grow them like houseplants? I don't have a cool place for dormant plants. The entire house is heated, no basement, and the garage, barn, and sheds go below zero if the weather outside does.
