Salvias in pots

| So I go to Lowes in search of my 'Black and Blue' which has alluded me so far (been looking all over town). :(
However, they did have the 'Hot Lips' which I could not resist buying even though I have no more room in my hummingbird spot. I'll have to clear some space elsewhere in the back yard for further plantings. Until I do so, will my 'Hot Lips' do well in a nice big pot? How often should it be watered? |

sk290: Depends on how much sun and what type potting soil you are planting Hot Lips in. I use pine bark & sand mixing things myself depending on which species I am potting. We have been hitting 101 - 105 on a regular basis.Mine in pots are in direct sun for 4 hours. Afternoon shade is important here. Watering once a day. Our temps are hitting 108 today so I will need to water twice.Hotlips will do the two tone flower with some shade during summer,if in full sun it will be one color until it cools off.Keep looking for Black & Blue. You should be able to grow lots of different plants than you were used to in Houston. Have fun! Art |

| Ah, the triple digit weather... don't miss it at all! :) I placed the pot in an area with full sun potted with a mix of potting soil and mulch (about half and half). I would guess that every couple of days or so should be enough. Thanks for the encouragement on the B&B. I am a little leery of buying plants on line and would prefer to pick them up myself. Have a great day! Sandra |
