For great books look for the author Betsy Clebsh. I don't have this latest book, but I need to get it soon as salvias (and agastache) are big players in my deer resistant garden.

Christian Froissart's La Connaissance des Sauges is the latest book on Salvias. Though it is in French, there are a lot of images. If you are good with cognates and are used to reading scientific literature, you can still get a lot of value out of it.

If you go to the Lady Bird Johnson's Wildflower Center website there are habitat pictures. FYI that does not mean you need to reproduce those conditions for the plants to grow well in your garden.
